Scale requirements for all woodwinds and brass: all major scales 7 sharps through 7 flats and the CMajor scale. Diatonic scales will be played in even octaves within the published range of theinstrument found at: http://www.njmea.org. Diatonic scales will be memorized and articulated asfollows:2. Chromatic scales will be played slurred in even sixteenth notes encompassing even octaves within thepublished range of the instrument found at: http://www.njmea.org. Any note may be asked as astarting pitch.3. A list of required solos may be found at: http://www.njmea.org YOU MUST USE THE EDITIONLISTED UNDER ‘PUBLISHER’ AS NO SUBSTITUTE SOLOS WILL BE PERMITTED. Nocadenzas or out of range notes will be asked.4. A list of PERCUSSION rudiments and requirements may be found at: http://www.njmea.org.5. PIANO and HARP are now standard auditions for all regions. Students must audition and beaccepted to a region ensemble to be eligible to audition for All State on piano or harp. A list of pianoand harp requirements may be found at: f Pianoscales will be played in even eighth notes at quarter note 120bpm.6. All instruments, with the exception of Traps, will be asked to sight-read.7. CJMEA now allows students who are accepted to both an instrumental ensemble and a choralensemble to participate and perform with both groups. If you plan to audition for both an instrumentaland choral ensemble be sure to check the appropriate boxes in the online the application.Percussion AuditionsNew this year, the Traps portion of the Battery Percussion audition no longer includes a solo or sightreading. Students should prepare the four traps etudes (tambourine, bass drum, crash cymbals, andtriangle) as well as the brief mallet etude listed with the rest of audition solos. Snare Drum still requiresrudiments, solo, and sight reading.Bass Trombone and Tuba SolosNote the alternate solo listed for each of these instruments. In both cases, you may choose to prepareeither solo. A published original is required regardless of solo chosen.String BassNote that both the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band each accept a string bassist. Please encouragethose students auditioning to indicate these ensemble options on their application.
