From our President Well, another two months have gone by, and I’ve beenable to keep myself busy again. In May, I displayed my 2006C55 AMG at the Carlisle Import and Kit Car Show with about20 other fine examples wearing the three pointed star. At theend of the month our family traveled up to see the GreenwichConcours d’Elegance in CT. This is a two day show whereAmerican cars are featured on Saturday, and foreign cars arefeatured on Sunday. Robert was asked to be a YouthHaggerty Judge on Sunday and judged 4 cars with a group of young car enthusiasts. He is planningto do this again at the Deutsche Classic. We went to the Hotel Hershey on June 12th to see the hill climb where we met up with JohnKitner. It’s great to see and hear old sports cars up close and at speed. June 13 th, I traveled toBethlehem to see nearly 40 190SL’s at their national convention. Then it was back to Hershey to seethe Elegance at Hershey. This is a prestigious show in its 5th year with 75 classic cars carefullyplaced in the gardens behind the hotel. Robert’s favorite was the actual1964 Aston Martin DB5 used in themovie Goldfinger. We justhappened to be there when it wasbeing judged, so we saw the owneroperate many of the special gadgetssuch as rotating license plates, hidden machine guns, bullet proofshield, tire shredding wheel hubs, etc. We closed out June with thedefensive driving class andautocross at Eurofins Lancaster Laboratories. I look forward to seeing another great gathering ofMercedes at the Deutsche Classic on July 11. Our club was given 500 in regional funds to be usedto promote the club at car shows. We just purchased a 10’ x 10’ blue canopy, a new section bannerand a teardrop MBCA banner. In August we will be celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the PA Turnpike. We will caravan fromHarrisburg to the Sideling Hill Plaza for a car show. Please see the articles for the upcoming events.Larry****************Editor’s Note*******************Mercedes Benz of Lancaster’s service department has asked that we remind our members to pleaseinform the service writers that you are an MBCA member when you bring your car for service, so thatthey can insure you get your 15% discount, and it is written up before service. This will save you andthe service dept. the time of having to do a refund after the fact. This would also work at Sun Motorsor any other authorized dealer that offers MBCA members a discount.

We had 25 participants including many youngerdrivers for this course. I taught the classroom portion while my wife Mary, and Ron Fox, one of ournewer members, handled the in car instruction. The rainy conditions gave everyone a chance tolearn even more about car control. On Sunday June 28 we hosted ourannual autocross. Because of severalscheduling conflicts, we only had 6 drivers thisyear. We were honored to have NationalPresident Terry Kiwala from Chicago andNational Treasurer Bill Hopper serve asinstructors. This was the first visit by a NationalPresident to our section in about 20 years. A bigthank you goes to Sam Huber, facilitiesmanager, who secured the great autocross lotfor our club. He also provided access to thetraining room for both events. The course consisted of several S turns,a slalom, a U-turn, and a circle. We had 4practice runs to learn the course, then had 4official runs. Mary Taylor and Bill Hopper ran the timing and scoring table. There were 4 classes. Surprise guest David Harras from the Delaware Valley Section stunnedeveryone with his 2015 GTS Edition 1 with roughly 500 horsepower. He told me that he started doingMBCA driving events in 1969 with his 300SEL 6.3. He turned in the 2 nd fastest time of the day. LarryTaylor set the fastest time of the day in his C55 AMG, while Mary had the fastest women’s time. BradEisenhauer turned in some very entertaining runs in his Black Beast. Mellissa has a much smootherapproach and is narrowing the gap. Bob Zangueneh was really pushing his 560SL. He kept brakinglater and later with each run.Terry Kiwala and I presented the awards (See photo above).
