YAMAHA MOTOR CORPORATION, U.S.A.MZ-SERIES ENGINES3-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTYYamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A., herebywarrants that new Yamaha MZ-series SparkIgnited Small Off Road Engines, hereafter calledSORE engines, purchased from an authorizedYamaha SORE engine dealer in the continentalUnited States and Canada will be free from defectsin material and workmanship for the period of timestated herein, subject to certain stated limitations.Period of Warranty — Any new Yamaha SOREengine purchased for consumer, commercial, and/or rental use from an authorized Yamaha SOREengine dealer in the continental United Statesand Canada will be warranted against defectsin material or workmanship for a period of three(3) years from date of retail purchase, subject toexclusions noted herein.During the period of warranty any authorizedYamaha SORE engine repair station will, free ofcharge, repair or replace, at Yamaha’s option, anypart adjudged defective by Yamaha due to faultyworkmanship or material from the factory. Partsused in warranty repairs will be warrantied forthe balance of the product’s warranty period. Allparts replaced under warranty become property ofYamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A.General Exclusions from this warranty shallinclude any failures caused by:a.Installation of parts or accessories thatare not qualitatively equivalent to genuineYamaha parts.b.Abnormal strain, neglect, or abuse.c.Lack of proper maintenance.d.Accident or collision damage.e.Mounting and using the engine in equipmentincompatible with its design and operatingparameters.Specific Exclusions from this warranty shallinclude parts replaced due to normal wear orroutine maintenance.The Customer’s Responsibility under thiswarranty shall be to:1.Operate and maintain the SORE engine asspecified in the appropriate Owner’s Manual.2.Give notice to an authorized Yamaha SOREengine repair station of any and all apparentdefects within ten (10) days after discovery,and make the unit available at time forinspection and repairs as requested by theYamaha SORE repair station.An approved Yamaha SORE engine repair stationmay be found by phoning 1-866-788-7398 (U.S.A.citizen) 1-866-788-7397 (Canadian citizen).EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM WARRANTY(U.S.A. ONLY)Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A. also warrantsto the ultimate purchaser of each engine coveredby this warranty that the product is designed, built,and equipped (including evaporative componentsoriginally installed by Yamaha) so as to conform atthe time of sale with all U.S. emission standardsapplicable at the time of manufacture and that itis free from defects in materials and workmanshipwhich would cause it not to meet these standardswithin the period listed immediately below. WARRANTY QUESTIONS AND ANSWERSQ. What costs are my responsibility during thewarranty period?A. The customer’s responsibility includes allcosts of normal maintenance service, nonwarranty repairs, accident damages, as wellas oil and spark plugs.Q. What are some examples of “abnormal” strain,neglect, or abuse?A. These terms are general and overlap eachother in areas. Specific examples include:Running the engine out of oil; lack of propermaintenance; operating the engine with a broken or damaged part which causes anotherpart to fail; and so on. If you have any specificquestions on operation or maintenance,please contact your dealer for advice.Q. Does the warranty cover incidental costs dueto a failure such as removal from the equipment in which it is installed or transportation tothe repair station?A. No. The warranty is limited to repair of theengine itself.Q. May I perform any or all of the recommendedmaintenance shown in the Owner’s Manualinstead of having the dealer do them?A. Yes, if you are a qualified mechanic and followthe procedures specified in the Owner’s andService Manual. We do recommend, however,that items requiring special tools or equipmentbe done by an authorized Yamaha SOREengine repair station.Q. Will the warranty be void or canceled if I donot operate or maintain my new Yamahaexactly as specified in the Owner’s Manual?A. No. The warranty on a new Yamaha cannot be“voided” or “canceled.”However, if a particular failure is caused byoperation or maintenance other than asshown in the Owner’s Manual, that failuremay not be covered under warranty.Q. What responsibility does my dealer haveunder this warranty?A. Each Yamaha MZ-series engine dealer isexpected to:1. Check the operation of the MZ-seriesengine before sale.2. Explain the operation, maintenance, andwarranty requirements to your satisfactionat the time of sale, and upon your requestat any later date.In addition, each Yamaha MZ-series enginedealer and authorized Yamaha SORE enginerepair station are held responsible for theirsetup, service, and warranty repair work.Q. Is the warranty transferable to second owners?A. Yes. The remainder of the existing warrantycan be transferred upon request. The unit hasto be inspected and reregistered by an authorized Yamaha MZ-series engine dealer for thepolicy to remain effective.CUSTOMER SERVICEIf your machine requires warranty service, youmust take it to any authorized Yamaha SOREengine repair station within the United States orCanada. Be sure to bring your valid proof of theoriginal date of purchase. In California, new equipment that use small off-road engines mustbe designed, built and equipped to meet the State’s stringent anti-smog standards. Yamaha MotorCorporation, U.S.A. must warranty the evaporative emission control system on your outdoor powerequipment for the period listed below provided there has been no abuse, neglect or improper maintenanceof your equipment.Your evaporative emission control system may include parts such as: carburetors, fuel tanks, fuel lines,fuel caps, valves, canisters, filters, vapor hoses, clamps, connectors and other associated components.For engines less than or equal to 80cc, only the fuel tank is subject to the evaporative emission controlwarranty requirements of this section.MANUFACTURER’S WARRANTY COVERAGE:This evaporative emission control system is warranted for three years. If any evaporative emission-relatedpart on your equipment is defective, the part will be repaired or replaced by Yamaha.OWNER’S WARRANTY RESPONSIBILITIES:As the outdoor power equipment owner, you are responsible for the performance of the requiredmaintenance listed in your owner’s manual. DURING THE PERIOD OF THIS WARRANTYYamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A. will repair or replace any warranted part deemed defective by Yamahaduring the scope of the warranty without charge to the owner, including parts, labor, and diagnosis. Thiswork must be done at an authorized Yamaha dealer. Give notice to an authorized Yamaha dealer of anyapparent defects(s) within a reasonable period of time after discovery. The SORE engine must be madeavailable for inspection by an authorized Yamaha dealer.OWNER’S RESPONSIBILITY:The owner of the SORE engine is responsible for the performance of required maintenance (see yourOwner’s Manual). Receipts and maintenance records covering the performance of regular maintenanceshould be retained in the event questions arise concerning maintenance. The receipts should betransferred to each subsequent owner of this SORE engine.The emission control systems of your Yamaha SORE engine originally installed by Yamaha weredesigned, built, tested, and certified as being in conformity with California emission control regulationsusing genuine Yamaha parts. Accordingly, it is recommended that any replacement part(s) used formaintenance, replacement, or repair of emission control systems be Yamaha parts. The owner may electto have maintenance, replacement, or repair of the emission control devices and systems performedby any repair establishment or individual, and may elect to use parts other than Yamaha parts for suchmaintenance, replacement, or repair without invalidating this warranty. However, the cost of such serviceor parts will not be covered under the warranty.EXCLUSIONS: No warranty coverage will be allowed if the part(s) failure was caused by owner/operatorabuse, neglect, tampering, improper adjustment unless performed by a dealer during warranty repairwork, modification, misuse, alteration, or improper maintenance (see your Owner’s Manual).Use of parts which are not qualitatively equivalent to genuine Yamaha parts, improper service, or lackof required maintenance which causes failure of a warranted part may constitute abuse and/or improperservice, thereby invalidating warranty liability hereunder.This warranty does not cover damage resulting from accidents, acts of nature, or other events oroccurrences beyond the control of Yamaha.
