Turning Air Into Solutions.INDUSTRIAL FANSRBO RBR RBA RBW RBP - CLASS 22 & 32CATALOG 902August 2012

IndustrialFansModels - Class 22 & 32RBO I RBR I RBA I RBW I RBPThe Series 900 Industrial Fans manufactured by TwinCity Fan & Blower are well suited for installations involving exhaust, material conveying, pollution control, aircirculation, and a variety of other industrial applications. The typical performance characteristics for differentwheels offered in Series 900 fans are illustrated onpage 3. It should be noted that all wheels essentiallyhave overloading characteristic type brake horsepowercurves; however, type RBA wheels have this to alesser degree than other types.RBOArrangement 8Twin City Fan & Blower certifies that the Series 900 ModelRBO/RBR/RBA/RBW fans shownherein are licensed to bear theAMCA Seal. The ratings shownare based on tests and procedures performed in accordancewith AMCA Publication 211 andcomply with the requirementsof the AMCA Certified RatingsProgram. While the general pressure characteristic curve is similarfor all Series 900 wheels, the RBA type wheel is considerably more efficient than other Series 900 wheels. Therefore, the RBA wheel is the first choice wherebrake horsepower savings are important, but the RBAwheel is limited to handling relatively clean air or gases.Efficiency is critical in most applications, and it isimportant that the fan size is selected so that it willoperate at or near its maximum efficiency point. This isparticularly important with the units that have lower efficiency in general, such as the RBO and RBW wheels.Twin City Fan & Blower offers a complete series ofwheels to meet the needs of most industrial process and material handling applications. Each wheelis statically and dynamically balanced on electronicequipment prior to being assembled in the fan. Inaddition, each unit is run at or near operating speedafter assembly and the balance is fine-tuned as acomplete assembly.RB Series 954-960Wheel TypeRBORBORBA, RBWRBORBA, RBWRBPRBO*, RBA, RBWRBPRBO*, RBA, RBWRBO*, RBA, RBWRBO, RBA, RBWRotatablehousing ationYESYESNOYESNONONONONONONOClass ,9A,9B,9F,10—1,8,9A,9B,9F1,8,9,9F1,8,9,9FClass ,8,9,9F1,9,9F1,8,9,9F1,8,9,9F—* Note: RBR is standard on size 926 and larger Class 32 fans.Series 900 fan housings are constructed in all usual arrangements and conform to AMCA Standard 2404-72 (DriveArrangements for Centrifugal Fans). The fan sizes and wheeldiameters conform to AMCA Standard 2402-66 (Sizes forIndustrial Centrifugal Fans).AMCA does not have a standard for industrial fans designating class of operation. Twin City Fan & Blower offers threebasic categories, based on performance, of industrial fans. Twoof the categories are shown in this catalog:21. Class 22 – suitable for applications involving performance toapproximately 22" SP; and2. Class 32 – for performance to 32" SP.Performances shown in the tables on pages 11 through 28 areshown in regular face type to indicate Class 22 fans and inbold face type to indicate Class 32 fans.A separate supplemental catalog (Catalog 911) shows thethird category: Class 45 – high pressure fans capable of reaching performance of approximately 45" SP.Twin City Fan Catalog 902

WheelTypesRBO Industrial Radial Paddle Wheel: The open typeradial paddle wheel design is extremely rugged usingheavy-gauge steel components which are jig assembledfor accuracy and consistency. All wheels are weldedwith care to insure the maximum in strength and reliability. RBO wheels are suitable for general handling ofcoarse, sticky, heavy, and/or abrasive materials.RBR Industrial Radial Paddle Wheel: The RBR wheel issimilar to the RBO, with the addition of end rings. RBRconstruction is standard on size 926 and larger Class32 fans. RBR wheels are suitable for general handlingof coarse, sticky, heavy, and/or abrasive materials.RBW Industrial Radial Backplate Wool Wheel: TheRBW wheel is constructed to prevent paper shreddings, threads from buffing system exhaust, and othersimilar matter from hanging up on and wrappingaround the spiders and blades. Applications includelong, stringy or fibrous materials.RBA Industrial Radial Air Handling Wheel: The RBAwheel is a more efficient type of wheel and is usedwhen handling relatively clean air, fumes, vaporexhaust, and air with a light contaminant. The wheelis constructed with heavy-gauge blades welded toboth backplate and front ring.RBP Industrial Radial Paper Handling Wheel: Thismodified RBW wheel features trapezoidal gussets forthe extra rugged construction necessary when handlingcorrugated paper trims, fibrous material, metal trim, andother high impact loading material. A paper deflectorcone over the face of the hub helps prevent wrappingof paper around the hub or leading edge of the blades.RBO / RBRRBARBWRBPRotatable and Reversible ConfigurationThe table on page 2 identifies fans that are rotatableor reversible. A fan available in a rotatable configuration indicates that the fan can be rotated in the fieldto any of the standard discharge locations. A fanavailable in a reversible configuration indicates thatthe wheel rotation can be changed in the field froma clockwise to a counterclockwise direction or viceversa. This is possible only on rotatable housingsand requires the wheel housing to be removed andreversed. Consult the factory before reversing a fan.See the chart on page 5 for specific configurationsand their designations. All RBP fans are supplied with bearing stop blocksand a relieved inlet transition. The relieved inlet transition smooths the flow of paper trim and similarmaterial through the fan. Breaker tabs are offeredas an option on the relieved inlet transition to assistin the breakup of material. Due to the nature of theapplications, RBP Class 32 construction is limited to22" SP and RBP Class 45 construction is limited to32" SP. Use RBW performance tables for RBP fans. The RBP fan is not AMCA licensed.Typical Performance Characteristic Curves for Industrial Wheels80606040402020020406080CFM IN % WOV1001008080606040402020020406080100CFM IN % WOVwww.tcf.com1001008080606040402020020406080% BRAKE HORSEPOWER80100% STATIC PRESSURE100RBW% BRAKE HORSEPOWER100% STATIC PRESSURERBA% BRAKE HORSEPOWER% STATIC PRESSURERBO, RBR100CFM IN % WOV3

ArrangementsArrangement 1Arrangement 1 fans are available in either direct drive (seeArrangement 8 below), or belt driven installations. The beltdriven configuration allows the motor to be mounted inany of the four standard motor positions shown on page5. The choice of a belt driven installation provides greaterperformance flexibility with the use of belts and sheaves ofdiffering sizes.Arrangement 8Arrangement 8 fans use a fan shaft and motor direct coupled via a flexible coupling. The integral motor subbase isfabricated of heavy gauge steel and securely reinforced forrigidity. Twin City Fan & Blower can supply wheels in a variety of diameters and differing widths to give the greatestefficiency for any given application. If desired, an Arrangement 1 fan can be set up for direct drive. This requires aconcrete motor pedestal to be built in the field.Arrangement 9Arrangement 9 fans include a motor slide base mounted onthe side of the motor pedestal. The motor and drive can beinstalled at the factory or field installed. Class 22 fans up tosize 929 are offered in Arrangements 9A (shorter pedestalfor small motors) and 9B (longer pedestals for larger motors). Maximum motor frame sizes for Arrangement 9A and9B are listed in the table on page 5.Unless otherwise specified, the motor will be installed onthe left (L) side of the pedestal on CW fans and on theright (R) side on CCW fans.Arrangement 9FArrangement 9F (floor mount) fans are recommended whena packaged unit is desired, but required motors are toolarge to be mounted on the side of the bearing pedestal. In this arrangement, the base is extended to facilitate motormounting in a horizontal position similar to an Arrangement1 fan. This arrangement is preferred over Arrangement 9when larger horsepower motors are being employed.Unless otherwise specified, the motor will be installed on theleft (L) side of the pedestal on CW fans and on the right (R)side on CCW fans. Arrangement 9F requires a separate subbase when vibration isolation is required.Arrangement 10Arrangement 10 fans are suitable for roof or outdoor installations. A weather cover, as shown, provides completeweather protection for motor, shaft, bearings, and drives. This arrangement is limited to Class 22, sizes 905 through919. Maximum motor sizes allowable in this arrangementare listed in the table on page 5. Larger fan sizes in thisarrangement, or larger motor sizes for smaller fans, maybe available on special request from the factory. All usualaccessories are available in this arrangement.4Twin City Fan Catalog 902

AccessoriesAccess DoorsBolted and quick-opening access doors are availablefor easy access to the fan interior for inspectionor cleaning. All access doors are gasketed and areconstructed with either evenly-spaced studs or heavyduty hinges and handle-type nuts which require notools to open. Raised bolted access doors are available for use where insulation is being applied to theoutside of the fan.Inlet BellQuick-OpenAccess DoorBoltedAccess DoorRaised BoltedAccess DoorOn installations with an open inlet (no ductworkat the inlet of the fan), a streamlining inlet bell isrequired to achieve the catalog performance.Outlet DampersDue to the performance characteristics of industrialfans, a damper on the outlet of the fan is a veryefficient way to control volume.Outlet DamperInlet BellAn outlet damper can be used to reduce the powerconsumption of a fan operating at high temperaturesor a fan operating in low density gas streams. Duringa cold startup, the outlet damper begins in a closedposition and is opened gradually as the fan reachesoperating temperature. This allows for the use of asmaller motor sufficient to handle the duty at highertemperatures.Twin City Fan & Blower offers two basic styles ofoutlet dampers: Type 1 is made of single surfaceblades suitable for clean air applications, pressuresto 25" SP and temperatures to 300 F; Type 2 hasdouble surface airfoil blades for abrasive type applications, pressures to 40" SP and temperatures to800 F. Both types of dampers are available withopposed or parallel blades and can be manuallyoperated or set up for automatic operation.Inlet VanesFor reduced flow situations with relatively clean air, inlet vane type dampers are available to maintain fanefficiency. The inlet vanes are external type attachedto the inlet of the fan. Standard construction inletvanes are suitable in applications up to 300 F. Hightemperature inlet vanes are also available for temperatures up to 600 F.External Inlet Vanes 2012 Twin City Fan Companies, Ltd., Minneapolis, MN.All rights reserved. AccessoriesInlet BoxesAn inlet box is designed to minimize pressure dropand airflow losses. Inlet boxes are recommended forapplications where uniform flow is difficult to obtaindue to limited space or where the air must enter thefan at an angle. Inlet boxes can be either detachableor integral to the fan. This option is available with aninlet box damper to provide increased airflow control.DrainsA pipe coupling can be welded to the lowest point inthe housing scroll to allow wash water or condensation to drain.Inlet BoxDrainShaft CoolersWhere high temperatures are encountered, the aluminum shaft cooler is recommended for dissipating heatand protecting bearings from the high temperatureatmosphere.Shaft SealsThe standard shaft seal is a non-asbestos type, sandwiched between two plates and the fan housing, providing a seal for most materials being handled.A variety of special seals, including mechanical typestuffing boxes, is available for gas-tight applicationsrequiring more positive protection.Shaft Seal & Saft CoolerSpark Resistant ConstructionThree fan constructions are available for spark resistance. The materials used in the construction ofthese fans minimize the potential of sparks beinggenerated by striking or rubbing components withinthe airstream.Type A – All parts of the fan in contact with the airor gas being handled are made of nonferrous material. (Aluminum wheel construction is limited to 250 F.)Type B – The fan has an entirely nonferrous wheeland nonferrous ring around the openingthrough which the shaft passes. (Aluminumwheel construction is limited to 250 F.)Type C – The fan is constructed so that a shift ofthe wheel or shaft will not permit two ferrous parts of the fan to rub or strike. Inapplications where aluminum is not suitable, wheels constructed of monel can befurnished for temperatures up to 1000 F.Notes: 1. The user must electrically ground the fan.2. Standard spark resistant alloy is aluminum.3. Bearings must not be placed in the air orgas stream.Other AccessoriesA large number of other appurtenances and accessories is available from Twin City Fan & Blower, including: Belt guards – standard and OSHA typeSplit housingsShaft and bearing guardsCouplings and coupling guardsWheel linersScroll linersWeather coversInlet and outlet screenSpecial material construction (stainless steel,Monel, etc.)Special coatings and finishesInsulation pinsAbrasion resistant constructionCommon bases with and without isolationBreaker tabs are offered on Series 900 RBP fansas an option on the relieved inlet transition.
