DW6ConstructionPumpStator housing, pump sleeve and top coverThe pumps have stator housing, pump sleeve and topcover made of aluminium. The DW.50.08 has a polypropylene pump sleeve.Shaft and bearingsThe rotor shaft is made of stainless steel. It rotates inan upper and a lower maintenance-free pre-lubricatedheavy-duty ball bearing.DW.50.07 to DW.100.66 (0.7 to 6.6 kW) have twosingle-row ball bearings. In DW.100.110 to DW.150.200 (11 and 20 kW), thelower ball bearing is a double-row ball bearing, theupper a single-row ball bearing.ImpellerAll pumps have a semi-open multivane impeller cast inhigh-chromium stainless steel for maximum wearresistance. Hardness: 550 HB.The impeller is provided with back vanes to protect theshaft seal against abrasives. The three large motor sizes (6.6, 11 and 20 kW) canhave two impellers connected in series to obtain highheads.Shaft sealIn DW.50.08 (polypropylene pump sleeve), the shaftseal system is a grease-filled bushing with lip seals inboth ends.DW.50.07 to DW.100.66 (0.7 to 6.6 kW, aluminiumpump sleeve) have a combination of a mechanical sealand a lip seal. The primary seal is made of siliconcarbide/silicon carbide, and the secondary seal is a lipseal.DW.100.110 to DW.150.200 (11 and 20 kW, aluminiumpump sleeve) have two mechanical seals. The primaryseal is made of silicon carbide/silicon carbide and thesecondary seal of carbon/aluminium oxide. The space between the primary and secondary sealsis filled with oil or grease (DW.50.08).Integrated level control ("A" versions)Note: The following does not apply to DW.50.08.Apumps as they are fitted with a float switch.Automatic level control is achieved by means ofmoisture-sensing electrodes monitoring the water levelin the pit/sump to be drained. The control voltage is 24 V.Because of the tough applications, the real strength ofthe pumps is the rubber parts. In order to provide protection against abrasives in thepumped liquid, the impeller is fitted between tworubber parts. A rubber-coated back plate above theimpeller protects the bottom of the oil chamber againstwear. As the rubber is soft compared to the impeller, it allowsabrasives to intrude the surface as the impeller passesthe particles. As the diffuser becomes worn, it is easily adjustedagainst the impeller with the staybolts to maintain thehigh performance. In pumps with two impellers, a rubber-coatedintermediate plate is fitted between the two impellers.A rubber liner protects against wear inside the pumpaluminium sleeve where the velocity is highest.12TM01 3435 9998Wear partsFig. 5Pos.1Integrated level controlDescriptionElectrode unit2Air valve3Electrodes4Water level compartment5Valve body6Valve rubber7Water rising channel

Electrode unit (1)The electrode unit is located in the pump top cover andalso functions as a switch for easy changeoverbetween automatic operation with level control, "A",and continuous (manual) operation, "C". The unitcomprises two electrodes (3).6ConstructionDWAir valve (2)The air valve is located in the pump top cover close tothe electrode unit (1). It consists of valve body (5),valve rubber (6) and valve cap.Electrodes (3)The two electrodes, one short and one long, protrudedownwards into the water level compartment (4).Short electrode: Starts the pump.Long electrode: Keeps the pump running. The two electrodes ensure that the pump keepsrunning if the water level in the water levelcompartment (4) varies a little or if the pump is tiltedduring operation.Water level compartment (4)The compartment is vertically separated from thestator housing.MotorThe motor is a watertight, totally enclosed 2-pole motorfor 50 Hz with voltage tolerances of - 10 %/ 6 %.Enclosure class: IP68.Insulation class: F (155 C).Maximum number of starts per hour: 30.All motors are designed for direct-on-line starting andfitted with thermal overload switches in the statorwindings that break the circuit at 130 C.11 and 20 kW pumps are also available for star-deltastarting. All 11 and 20 kW pumps with integrated motorstarter incorporate an overcurrent relay. The pumps are supplied with 20 metres of cable, typeH07RN-F.Overload protectionThe pumps incorporate overload protection.Furthermore, pump types DW.100.110 to DW.150.200have an overload circuit to protect the motor in casethe impeller is seized up due to debris.CoolingSufficient cooling is achieved by means of the liquidflow inside the pump sleeve along the motor casing.13

DW7Integrated level controlStop conditionsPumps with integrated level control have a switch forsetting the pump to automatic operation, "A", or tocontinuous (manual) operation, "C".When the pump has been lowered into the pit, sump, etc., switch on the power supply. The integrated levelcontrol system now automatically starts and stops thepump, depending on the water level.Note: The DW.50.08 pumps for automatic operationare supplied with a float switch with 0.5 metres ofcable. The float switch is fitted to the top cover. How it worksTM01 3432 3998Product description7. Product descriptionFig. 14 Low water levelThe pump will start sucking air when the water levelhas fallen below the inlet strainer. Because of the lowpump pressure, air is sucked into the electrodechamber. The water level in the electrode chamberdecreases, but the pump will run as long as the longelectrode is in contact with water. When the water levelhas fallen below the long electrode, the electric circuitis broken, and the pump stops. The following description does not apply toDW.50.08.A pumps, as they are fitted with a floatswitch.Start conditionsTM01 3430 3998Non-return valveWhen A models are used for automatic operation indeep pits/sumps, a non-return valve must the fittedimmediately after the outlet port to prevent backflowand thus intermittent operation when the pit/sump hasbeen drained. See fig. 15.Fig. 12 Start conditionsWhen the water level rises, the pump is filled withwater, and the built-in electrodes come into contactwith water. When this happens, an electric circuitswitches on the pump.Fig. 13 Pump in operationThe water level decreases when the pump is running, but due to the pressure in the pump, the water level inthe electrode chamber remains high, and the pumpcontinues to run.22TM01 3433 3998TM01 3431 3998Pump in operationFig. 15 Pump installed in pit with long vertical riser pipe orhose

Frequency converter operationDo not connect DW pumps with integrated motorstarter to a frequency converter, as this may result indamage to the motor.Frequency converter operation will often expose themotor insulation system to a heavier load and causethe motor to be more noisy than usual due to eddycurrents caused by voltage peaks. In addition, large motors driven via a frequencyconverter will be loaded by bearing currents.7Product descriptionDWTestingAll pumps are tested before leaving the factory. The factory test report is based on ISO 9906:2012,grade 3B. You can order test reports together with thepump or separately based on the pump serial number.Other tests or third-party inspection certificates areavailable on request.23

Tolerances according to ISO 9906:2012, grade 3B. The curves apply to the pumping of airless water ata temperature of 20 C and a kinematic viscosity of1 mm2/s (1 cSt). In the case of other densities than 1000 kg/m3, theoutlet pressure is proportional to the density. When pumping liquids with a density higher than1000 kg/m3, use pumps with correspondingly higheroutputs.
