Piano RequirementPlacement in Class Piano or Non-Primary Applied Piano (MUSC 128 private lessons) is determined at theaudition. Students may waive all or part of this requirement if they pass the Piano Proficiency Exam.Note to students whose primary instrument is piano: The Class Piano requirement is waived for these studentsand they take MUSC 180/280/380/480 in lieu of 170/270/370/470. They are, however, required to take NonPrimary Applied Vocal Study (4 semesters MUSC 127 3 semesters MUSC 327).Music Department Website: http://www.uww.edu/cac/music/.Note: passing the Piano Proficiency Exam is a prerequisite for MUSED 328, MUSC 338, & MUSC 453.Ensemble RequirementThe ensemble requirement may be fulfilled by participation in seven terms of large ensembles (MUSC 171 or172), or six terms of large ensembles and two terms of small ensembles. Small ensembles include MUSC 277,MUSC 279 and MUSC 271 and opera or musical theatre productions, MUSC 272.General Degree NotesYou must begin your Math and English sequences with the appropriate course. English & Math placement willbe determined by your ACT/SAT score or an English Placement Test/Score. Please refer to your AcademicAdvising Report and adjust the plan accordingly. All students must complete a minimum of 120 credits including:1. At least 32 units of general education, including specific Gen Ed core courses, as well as approvedmath and science, physical education, and elective courses. Your general education electives mustcome from the following categories: classes designated GA, GE, GG, GH, GI, GP, GS or GW.2. All requirements for one of the degree plans.3. All requirements for the major and (if appropriate) minor.Transfer students may have different general education requirements than those listed. Music Education Majors are subject to four types of GeneralEducation requirements: University (AAR, section IV.), Diversity (V.) College (VI.), and PI34 if enrolled prior to2019 (VII. – PI34 requirements are those subject areas mandated by the State of Wisconsin for licensure.) Thefollowing checklist is designed to allow you to fill the other requirements in the most efficient way possible. Notethat many General Education courses and Electives are offered during Winterim and Summer terms. TheEDFOUND 243 is also offered in the Summer. It is possible to save at least a semester by fulfilling theserequirements outside of Fall and Spring semesters.
