“Musings” from pg. 1“Ministries” from pg. 1Summertime offers a special challenge forFoodbank. In a special memo, director PhyllisHaynes points out that “for many kids in central andsouthern Arkansas, the meals they receive throughtheir school breakfast and lunch programs are theonly ones they can count on.” These are suspendedwhen school is out, so Foodbank works through 350partner agencies to provide food to these childrenand other struggling persons in the affected areas.“Just 1 provides enough food for three meals!”the memo points out. “Summer is no vacation whenyou're hungry.”The Arkansas Foodbank has a website. Pleaseread about their programs on the linked page.Family Promise – May 15-22, 20112Psalm 8 speaks of this:When I look at your heavens, the work of yourfingers, the moon and the stars.what arehumans that you are mindful of them, mortalsthat you care for them? Yet you have made thema little lower than God, and crowned them withglory and honor. You have given them dominionover the works of your hands; you have put allthings under their feet .O Lord, our Sovereignhow majestic is your name in all the earth!Remember this — that God has chosen you —to do the work of Christ — to care, to love, toheal, to work, to comfort, to share, toencourage —You have a unique purpose hereon earth. Praise be to God!God bless you all! Peace,— Rev. Holly PattonRaneeHarpPulaski Heights Christian ChurchWhat a rewarding week for so many! PHCC hadthe privilege of hosting Crystal and her childrenReese, Lexi and Sean. We were pleasantly surprisedwhen they peeked in the sanctuary door duringSunday worship. They weren’t expected until about12:30 pm, but what a great treat for everyone to meetthem early. It was pure serendipity that the church was havinga potluck that day, and more so that we had greatTo pg. 3(501) 663-81494724 Hillcrest Ave. Little Rock, AR 72205lrphcc@gmail.comwww.phcclr.orgSunday Worship 10:50 a.m.Rev. 3“Ministries” from pg. 2weather for eating outdoors. The family loved themeal – especially Lexi, who may have been spiedmaking a return trip for her favorite dish (friedchicken). The occasion was perfect for many membersto get to know Crystal a little better.A special shout out for one host in particular thisrotation. Although she would not want theacknowledgement, Jamie Tribo and her good friendVanna have been such faithful hosts to families forseveral years now. Jamie and Vanna are in medicalschool. After the families settle down, they alwayswhip out their laptops in their bedroom (the library)and get to studying! In addition to preparing Sundaydinner and spending Sunday evening this time,Jamie desired to spend more nights if needed. Lastly,Jamie said she has other friends who will volunteerin the future for overnight duties if openings exist.Jamie and Vanna, thank you for everything.A few more highlights of the week ClairettaCogdell (one of our QQUMC partners) and herdaughter Connie spent the night Tuesday. Clairettadiscovered one of Lexi’s hidden talents – playing thepiano. Lexi was very impressive, in fact she is amulti-talented young lady.Pam and Rita served a delicious pot roast onThursday. What Reese enjoyed the most was thekickin’ basketball game he and Rita got into (eventhough Rita bested him by two points). Reese spentevery second he could shooting hoops.Friday night was the scene for a fun game ofMonopoly. At 11:30 pm, we were all pooped and calledit a draw!Friday night was also a shining example how theFamily Promise program sells itself, once people seeit in action. Matt McLeod (one of our resident artistsupstairs) was having an art show that evening.Matt’s sister was in attendance, and was soimpressed with the program that she approached usabout serving the next rotation.Saturday was a blast as we all hiked from thechurch through the woods to Allsopp Park. Here arethe kids playing with others in the stream – underMama’s watchful eye!Sunday was a great ending for the week. Ithappened to be Lexi’s tenth birthday and she was soexcited and honored to be presented a birthday cake(complete with lit candles) during the service. Didanyone else about choke up when she said to thechurch, “Thank you for being so nice to us.” AsCrystal was getting into her car to go to the nextchurch, she offered the exact same sentiment. Thankyou, Crystal and family for allowing us to serve you.PHCC FAMILY PROMISE VOLUNTEERSMay 15-22, 2011Sunday Dinner and Overnight: Jamie Tribo andVannaMonday Overnight: Evelyn BehrleTuesday Dinner: Alan and Bonita JohnsonWednesday Dinner: Gena WilfongThursday Dinner: Rita Jernigan and Pam HendrickSaturday Overnight: Tim Woodard, JessicaMathews, Tammy Odom and Bart NewsomThe Good News – June 2011
