We have some major projects that will be changing the look—and improving the efficiency—of Gold-Eagle.One of the most visible projects so far is atRenwick, where we’ve been rebuilding after theviolent windstorm that hit the area on July 17,2016. We demolished the old wooden grain elevator, wood annex and three old 100,000-bushelsteel bins. We’re building three new 270,000-bushel steelbins. This means we’re replacing approximately400,000 bushels of old storage (old steel binsand wood facilities) with more than 800,000bushels of new steel storage. While the old receiving system at Renwick hada capacity of 7,500 bushels per hour, the newsystem will have a capacity of 20,000 bushels perhour. We expect to complete this project in Juneand look forward to much greater efficiency atRenwick this fall.New shop slated for Eagle GroveThe landscape is also changing in Eagle Groveon the north edge of town. We’re building a newshop next door to the truck wash we built in 2016.Dirt work started in May on this new shop, andconstruction should begin sometime in June. Theshop will replace the existing shop at our EagleGrove elevator. This will free up much morespace and give us more options to make ourEagle Grove grain facility more efficient.Continued on page 3

New USDA Leader, New Technology Spark OptimismBy Chris PetersenSeed Sales ManagerChange is the heartbeat of growth, especially in agriculture. From theXtend crop system for dicambatolerant soybeans to new nematodecontrol technology, there are some bigchanges creating new opportunitiesin farming. One of the biggest changes right nowis the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture,Sonny Perdue. He’s a former farmer,Air Force veteran, agribusiness man, veterinarian, state legislator and governor of Georgia who is taking a wholenew approach at the U.S. Departmentof Agriculture (USDA).Under his leadership, Perdue saysUSDA will be facts-based and datadriven, with a decision-making mindset that’s customer-focused. WhenPerdue visited a central Iowa farm inearly May, he also stressed that theAmerican government should try toremove all obstacles so farmers andranchers have every opportunity toprosper. Hopefully, this will eliminate alot of government red tape and bringpositive new trends to agriculture.New weapon in the fightagainst nematodesMeet agriculture’s most unapologetic advocate, Sonny Perdue, U.S. Secretary ofAgriculture, who spoke in Nevada in May.If I were an investor in this new era, I’dbe a lot more optimistic about investing in ag companies. I’m confident Xtendsoybean varieties will yield just asPAGE 2Speaking of seed, thanks to all of youfor your 2017 seed purchases fromGold-Eagle. Our bean units sold areclose to record levels. Thanks to you,we’ve also seen a tremendous increasein our seed treatment service forsoybeans. Demand has been so strongthat we may set a new record in 2017.We’re looking forward to seeing howthese treatments and seed technologies play out in the 2017 growingseason and appreciate the chance towork with you. Enhance Nitrogen Efficiencywith SUPERU Efficient plant uptake. Because theproduct is completely water soluble, the N is readily available for plantuptake.Protect your N investmentKeep in mind that SUPERU is appliedduring the time of the year whenoutdoor temperatures are warmer. This increases the volatilization rateand also increases the activity ofurease, the enzyme in the soil thatcatalyzes the hydrolysis of urea intocarbon dioxide and ammonia. Theammonia is then converted to nitratevia the nitrogen cycle.Gold-Eagle is ready to apply SUPERU to your acres with this rig.Want a fertilizer that takes efficiencyand productivity to new levels? Take alook at SUPERU . It offers the highestconcentration of nitrogen available in agranular fertilizer and protects againstall three forms of nitrogen loss.Benefits of SUPERU include: More available N. SUPERU is a46% urea manufactured by grinding granular urea into a much finer Protection against all three formsof N loss. It also combines aurease inhibitor (AGROTAIN ) andnitrification inhibitor (an N-Serve type product) before the product isre-granulated. This allows thecomponents to be impregnatedthroughout the total granule, ratherthan be included only in a polymercoating. As the granules break downin the soil into much finer particles, every particle is protected againstammonia volatilization, nitrateleaching and denitrification.New “Landscaping”Continued from page 1SUPERU is treated with a nitrificationinhibitor. After the urease in the soilconverts the urea to CO2 and ammonia, the ammonia quickly converts toammonium (NH4 ) which bonds to thenegative charged soil clay particles. Please contact your local GoldEagle agronomist to learn more aboutSUPERU and see how it can work foryour operation. We appreciate yourbusiness. By Stu PannkukAgronomy Sales Managerparticle size. SUPERU provides 40more pounds of available N per ton, compared to polymer-coated urea. It’s important to keep the N in theammonium form as long as possible. Inthe time period extending from threeweeks before tasseling to mid-silk, thecrop needs more than one half of itstotal required N. Keeping N in a formthat resists denitrification and leachingis important to keep N available whenthe crop needs it the most.Adding more NH3 storageWe’re also upgrading Gold-Eagle’s anhydrous ammoniafacilities in Hardy, Livermore and Wesley. Upgrading Our Nitrogen Systems to Serve YouIf you think this spring hasn’t beentypical, you’re right. The spring of2017 is probably the most unusualspring I’ve experienced since I startedworking here in 2002.The cold temperatures and large variations in rainfall made it tough for youas fieldwork got underway. It was alsotough for us as we tried to coordinatefloaters and tenders to apply dry fertilizer and liquid nitrogen (N).By the first week of May we hadcompleted most of our dry fertilizerapplications, had approximately 75%of the liquid N applied, and had only afew tons of anhydrous ammonia (NH3)left to apply.Speaking of N, we’re makingsome major improvements throughout Gold-Eagle to our NH3 systems, including: Hardy. We’ll remove the three existing storage tanks and replace themwith one new 45,000-gallon tank. We’llalso install new risers and a riserplatform, plumbing and pumpingsystems. This equipment will becapable of filling two double 1450s orfour 1450s at the same time. The newsystem will be located approximatelywhere the existing system is now. Livermore. The new NH3 systemwill be located about two blocks northfrom the existing NH3 plant, southwest of the cement elevator. In time, the existing storage tanks will be soldor cut up for scrap. The Gold-Eagleboard has decided to purchase a new30,000-gallon storage tank, along witha new riser and platform with newplumbing and a new pumping system. This system’s filling capabilities will bethe same as the new system at Hardy.PAGE 5 Wesley. The new anhydrousammonia complex will be located bythe new grain site we built near Wesleytwo years ago. The system will includetwo 60,000-gallon storage tanks (thisequals 263 tons on 85% full). The riserplatform (50-foot square) will have risers that will allow us to fill four double1450s simultaneously. The system willbe equipped with two 3-inch pumps. This means we’ll be able to fill fourdouble 1450 nurse tanks (25 tons) inless than 30 minutes. We’ll also installtwo bulkheads that will allow twotransport trucks to unload at the sametime. These upgrades will allow us topurchase more NH3 during the summer-fill period, which usually equatesto a lower cost and allows us to offeryou more competitive fall prices. Also, our expanded storage capacity givesus some “cushion” of supply, especially during times when the NH3 terminals have long lines. (This happensquite often during the fall rush.)While our investment in these newfacilities will likely exceed 1 million, these upgrades will improve ourefficiency and should lower costs toyou in the long term. We appreciateyour business and look forward toserving you. By Stu PannkukAgronomy Sales Manager New NH3 systems at Hardy,Livermore, and Wesley. Each ofthese locations had been using two11,000-gallon railroad cars to storeanhydrous ammonia. Recentregulation changes for storinganhydrous mean these tanks cannot beused in the future. This summer, we’llbe investing in major upgrades to ouranhydrous systems at Hardy,Livermore and Wesley. All thesechanges will allow Gold-Eagle toincrease our nitrogen storage by 15%.

What’s the simplest—and mostunder-rated—tool to boost your profitpotential? Grid sampling. Not onlydoes it take the guesswork out of fertilizing your acres properly, but it’s thefoundation of Gold-Eagle’s three newprecision ag bundles that offer an easy, convenient, and affordable way to helpyou maximize both yield potential andreturn on investment.Studies have shown that grid samplingevery fourth year offers the best value. It’s also the most widely used samplingpattern. With our new Eagle Vision Acreprogram, we’ll track all your farms andwill sample approximately 25% of yourfield acres yearly. Sticking to this schedule means you don’t have to keep trackof what fields need to be sampled.Other features of Gold-Eagle’s threebundles include all things precision thatGold-Eagle offers you, including variable-rate seeding (VRS), variable-ratefertilizer (VRF) prescriptions and YieldMapbook Deluxe, which includes yieldmapbooks, side-by-side variety/hybridcomparisons, fungicide treatment comparisons and more.Bundles offer monitorsupportAnother popular service included in allthree precision ag bundles is our multibrand monitor support. No matter whatbrand of monitor you have in any pieceof farm equipment, we can help. We’ll help input key data includingfield names, field boundaries, herbicideinformation and the hybrid/variety selections you planted and are harvesting. We’ll also keep your guidance lines safeand will make sure they can be editedon Gold-Eagle’s mapping program. By Brad Davis, General ManagerI admit—I was apprehensive aboutGold-Eagle’s prospects this year, especially with low corn prices. While I never would have dreamedit a few months ago, your cooperative has set several new salesrecords this year. The amount of business we’vebeen enjoying throughout thisfiscal year-to-date is outstanding.I’d like to extend a sincere, humble thank you for your continuedsupport of Gold-Eagle. I also wantto thank our staff for their hardwork and the strong relationshipsthey’ve cultivated with our clientsand prospects. Thatincludes stories about the commoditymarkets.Whether it’s “corn exports to Mexicowill dry up” or rumors about why thecattle market in late April was up limitsome days and down limit other days,it can seem like there’s more speculation than trustworthy information. Some of what gets reported isn’tnews as much as a negotiating tactic.Unfortunately, however, the marketsreact, and misinformation can spreadeasily. My best advice? Don’t believe thehype. Understand there can be a bigdisconnect between supply anddemand. Also realize that about theonly chance for a market rally in theweeks ahead is a weather scare.Keep an eye on reliable facts, such asupdates from the U.S. Department ofAgriculture (USDA). We know that inApril China imported 8.02 million tonsof soybeans. That was 13% over lastyear at that time and also set a newrecord. From October 2016 throughApril 2017, USDA’s import figureshave run 9.3% over last year at 49.6million tons. To hit USDA’s 88 millionmetric tons import projection, thenumbers only need to run 1.5% overlast year from May 2017 through September 2017. Despite concerns overnegative processing margins in China,we should hit USDA’s goal.Stick to your planNo matter what news headlines mightcome along in the near future, it’simportant to stick to your marketingplan to help manage your risk. Workwith Gold-Eagle to put in target offersto simplify the process.Contact our grain marketing team at800-825-3331 for more details. Weappreciate the chance to serve you. THANK YOUfor Helping UsSet New SalesRecordsPAGE 7USDA ReportHighlightsIn its May 2017 World Ag Supplyand Demand estimates, the USDAdecreased 2016/17 ending stocksby 25 million bushels by increasingfood, seed, and industrial use by alike amount. No other changes weremade to the 2016/17 balance sheet. The initial 2017/18 S/D guestimateincluded corn production decreasing nearly 1.1 billion bu. to 14.065billion, the result of 4.3 million lessharvested acres and a 3.9 bu/Adecrease in yield to 170.7 (the trendline figure). Corn demand isprojected to be 345 million bu. lessin 2017/18 with ethanol productionslightly higher while feed and residual is slightly lower. The big demandchange was made to exports as a350 million bu. decrease isprojected due to business lost as aresult of expected record cornproduction in South America. The crop report had no surprises forthe 2016/17 marketing year as soybean ending stocks were reducedby 10 million bu. from the Aprilreport.
