This Sunday!!!Join us this Sunday, October 4th, for the Blessing of Animals at 2:00 PM outside the front of the church. Please be sure your pets are in carrying cages or on leashes. This is always a wonderful addition to ourcelebration of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. We look forward to seeing you there! From the Pastor’s DeskCelebrating the Feast of St. Francis of AssisiThe Feast of St. Francis is a solemnity for all members of the Franciscan Family, which, of course, includes usCapuchins. We are most grateful that we can share this solemnity with all of you, our dear parishioners and friends, who are all honorary Capuchin-Franciscans this weekend! Thank you so much for your support of the friars over allthese years. Your kindness, friendship, generosity, and ministry alongside of us are great gifts you have given us. Andwe are grateful. Perhaps we don’t say it enough to you, but THANK YOU.So many books, scholarly articles, and spiritual writings, together with countless works of art in all mediums, have attempted to give us insight into the man and the saint we call our Founder. Francis was a simple, humble man.He loved the Lord and the Lord loved him. He embraced Lady Poverty and served Christ in the poor, the downtrodden, the sick and the dying. He led by example and witnessed to those far beyond the town of Assisi, that true joy came notfrom the accumulation of wealth, status and fame, but rather in living the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, which he didwith such great intensity and obedience that he attracted many brothers and sisters who wished to follow in his footsteps, the Poverello (the Little Poor One) – who only desired himself to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. As we celebrate the Feast of St. Francis this weekend, may I invite you to reflect on his life and ministry? Whatabout St. Francis do you find attractive, and worthy of imitation? What do you find challenging about his life andministry? If you were one of the townspeople in Assisi in the 12th century, how do you think you might have respondedto Francis? The readings for the Solemnity offer us further opportunities to reflect on Francis’ life. Perhaps you might havesome time to consider prayerfully the following questions. How have I contributed to the renovation of God’s House? From a spiritual and moral point of view, in whatways have I helped to rebuild the Church? Do I regularly offer my support, my energies, my time, talent and treasure tohelp secure the present and future of the Church and our parish?Do I ever boast in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ? Do I accept my share of suffering for the sake of Christ? How might I respond if the wounds of the Crucified Lord appeared in my flesh? Do I desire to bear the marks of Jesuson my body? Do I regularly thank the Lord for his sacrifice for me?When and how do I give praise to God the Father? Do I believe that Jesus not only wants to show me theFather, but already has? Do I accept the Lord’s invitation to go to him and find rest? Am I willing to take the Lord’syoke upon myself? To walk with him? To learn from him? Do I seek the Lord’s meekness and humility of heart? These questions may seem daunting and even threatening; they may be challenging and difficult for us toanswer! The good news is that we don’t have to be St. Francis all over again. We simply have to be us, the individualsthat God created us to be. As Francis is often quoted, “I have done what was mine to do, may Christ now teach youwhat you are to do.” What is it that Christ is calling you to do? Have you asked him lately? Are you willing tolisten to him? To act on his word?Thank you for sharing this wonderful feast with us!“May the Lord bless and keep you; may He make His Face shine upon you and be merciful to you; may He turn HisCountenance toward you and give you His Peace!” (Num. 6:22-27) Amen!

An Update on Sanitizing the ChurchAs you have seen after the Masses each weekend, the pews and “high touch” areas such as thedoors, railings, bathroom, etc. are cleaned by volunteers wearing gloves and masks, using a CDCapproved disinfectant. Each Sunday afternoon/evening, I have been using a fogger, to spray downthe sanctuary, all the pews, shrines, vestibule, bathroom and sacristy. Beginning next week, we willhave SterileMed Specialized Cleaning Services sterilize the church each Sunday afternoon/evening.This service will provide a deeper cleaning for our protection. The company has been hired tosanitize both the high school and the grade school five days a week for the protection of our students, faculties, and staffs.Where are the Collection Baskets? For now, due to COVID-19, we are not using collection baskets at the Masses. As you enter the church, on either side of the center aisle, there are twoOffertory Boxes to receive parish offertory envelopes or other donations. Please consider E-Giving. Information is available in the Bulletin.Custodian Position AvailableWe are looking for a custodian to assist us in the parish and high school.
