With help from your friends, setout to save the islands from the Snowmads of theNorth Sea. Single PlayerOne-player mode, wherea single player controlsDonkey Kong on his10adventure.Select which screen touse (the TV screen orthe GamePad screen) and then select yourcontroller. When selecting to play with either the GamePad orPro Controller, you can choose between Controlsand Controls.MultiplayerTwo-player mode. Player 1 controls Donkey Kong11and Player 2 controls a partner character.First, select which screen to use (the TV screen orthe GamePad screen), then select which controllereach player will use, and then select which partnercharacter Player 2 will control. As with single-player mode, if you choose to playwith the GamePad or Pro Controller, you can selectwhether to use Controls or Controls. 7Save DataGame data is automatically saved after importantevents, such as clearing a level.Deleting DataYou can delete save data by pressing while onthe Game Select screen. Deleted data cannot be recovered, so be careful.Copying DataTo copy save data, press on the Game Selectscreen. Then select which file you would like tocopy and where you would like to copy it to. If you overwrite another file, the save data for that filewill be lost, so be careful.

9Basic PlayBattle across numerous islands while fighting offenemies, collecting bananas, and solving puzzlesas you go.CheckpointsPassing through a checkpoint willallow you to continue from thereshould you suffer an unfortunate fatelater in the level. If you quit the level, or lose a life and have no RedBalloons left, you will continue the game from thebeginning of the level.The GoalThe Slot Machine Barrel is yourobjective. Hit it to finish the level andreceive whatever item is displayed onit. Ifis shown, you'll receive a random item. Shakethe Wii Remote or Nunchuk to get even more of thatitem. If you are using the Wii U GamePad, repeatedlypress / (for Controls) or / (for Controls).
Pause MenuPress to openthe pause menu.Here you canchange options,return to the islandmap, check the number of bananas youhave collected and more.Bonus StagesCollecting bananaspays off! 10Single-Player Mode1231HealthThe top row of hearts shows Donkey Kong'shealth, and the hearts underneath show yourpartner's health. Taking damage in any way, be itfrom traps or enemy attacks, will decrease yourhealth. In single-player mode, damage taken will affect thepartner's health first. The partner will disappear if alltheir health is lost.2Kong POW meter17Collect bananasto fill up the Kong POWmeter. When it's full and Donkey Kong has apartner with him, you can unleash the Kong POW13abilityagainst your foes.3Air meterThis is only displayed when you are in water, andit will decrease little by little while you aresubmerged. Be careful! If you run out of air, you'llstart taking damage. You can restore the air meterby touching bubbles or getting out of the water.
Partner16Destroy a Kong Barreltoliberate the partner inside, who willthen automatically climb onto yourback. Working together, you'll becapable of performing various joint13 , depending on which partner youactionsfreed.Losing a LifeIf you lose all of your health or fall into a pit, you'll17lose a life. A Red Balloonwill be used tocontinue the game either from the beginning of thelevel or from a checkpoint.Game OverIf you lose a life anddon't have any RedBalloons left, it's gameover. SelectingCONTINUE will give youfour Red Balloons andallow you to continue the game. Selecting QUITwill take you back to the title screen.
11Multiplayer Mode11Hearts, Kong POW meter and air metersDonkey Kong and his partner have individualhealth and air meters. Unlike in single-playermode, the character who takes damage is the oneto lose health. If you take damage while the partner is on DonkeyKong's back, Donkey Kong and the partner take turnslosing health. If the partner is on Donkey Kong's back while you arein water, then a single air meter will be displayed.PartnerYou'll begin the game with a partner, and bothKongs can enjoy the adventure together.Play as a TeamPlayer 1 will play as Donkey Kong, and Player 2will play as a partner.
Joint PlayWhile the partner is on Donkey Kong'sback, the pair will be able to executejoint actions and Kong POW attacks.Player 1 takes care of jumping andcontrolling vehicles while Player 2supports with long-range attacks, such as14shooting peanuts.Leave No Kong Behind!If Donkey Kong and his partner end up toofar apart, one of them might get pushed offthe game screen. If that happens, the onepushed off the screen will reappear next totheir partner after a short delay.15 If a character enters a Rocket Barrel16 , the other characteror Barrel Cannonwill automatically be moved to their locationafter a short delay.Losing a LifeIf one character loses all of their health, they willdisappear from the level. They can return to thelevel at the cost of one Red Balloon, so long asthe other character does not also lose all of theirhealth in the meantime. If both charactersdisappear from the level at the same time, it willcost two Red Balloons for them to continue thegame from either the beginning of the level or acheckpoint.
Returning to the GameTo spend a Red Balloon and return tothe level, the player must press thebutton shown in the top-left corner ofthe screen. The returning characterwill float back down into the level in abarrel. The other character must thentouch the barrel to free their buddy. The player in the barrel can shake the Wii Remote orNunchuk to move the barrel closer. If you are usingthe Wii U GamePad or Wii U Pro Controller,repeatedly press / (for Controls) or / (for Controls). If you fail to get out of the barrel before it falls off thescreen, you will lose a life. Be careful!Game OverIf both characters lose a life and you have no RedBalloons left, it's game over. Selecting CONTINUEwill give you four Red Balloons and allow you tocontinue the game. Selecting QUIT will take youback to the title screen.
12Basic ActionsIn Options, besides switching between Controlsand Controls for movement, you can change / controls to / on the Wii U GamePad orWii U Pro Controller.Move / Swim [ Controls] [ Controls] Depending on how much you tilt / , yourspeed changes. If you are using the Wii Remote(held horizontally), hold down as you moveto run. If you are using the GamePad with controls, hold down / .Crouch [ Controls] [ Controls] / Jump Press and release quickly for a low jump, orhold the button for a high jump. Press thebutton the moment you land on an enemy for ahigher jump. Timing is key!

You canalso use this move to destroy barrels and findhidden objects. Funky's Fly 'n' Buy ItemsRed BalloonsBuy these if you feel like you need more RedBalloons on your adventure.SquawksAlerts you when a Puzzle Piece is nearby bysquawking. You can take one Squawks with youfor each level.Heart BoostsTaking one of these with you will increase yourmaximum health by one heart. You can only takeone per character for each level.Banana JuiceMakes you temporarily invincible the first time youwould take damage.Green BalloonsMost of the time, these will save you from losing alife when you fall into a pit. They only work onceeach and will be automatically activated when youfall in.Blue BalloonsThese save you from running out of air by refillingyour air meter. They only work once each and areautomatically activated when you run out of air.
Crash GuardProtects you from damage while riding in a MineCart or a Rocket Barrel. It can withstand one hitbefore disappearing.Portable DD/DX/CK BarrelsThe respective partner character automaticallyappears from them when you don't have a partnerin single-player mode.ToysUse the Capsule Toy Machine to get a randomlyselected figurine. Your toy collection can beviewed in the Extras option.
18Time Attack LeaderboardsSelect LEADERBOARDS from any level's TimeAttack menu to view other players' records for thatlevel.Uploading Your RecordsYou can only upload a record when you beat yourbest time for a particular level. Any uploadedrecords will be associated with your NintendoNetwork ID. You must create a Nintendo Network ID before youcan upload records. For information about NintendoNetwork IDs, refer to the User Settings section of theWii U Electronic Manual.
