References. US Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) Sergeant Audie MurphyAssociation (SAMA) Regulation 600-80-1, Sergeant Audie Murphy Award, dated 2 April2015.2. Purpose. Provide implementation instructions for the administration of the Fort SillSergeant Audie Murphy Award (SAMA) selection board.3. General. Fort Sill will hold the US Army Fires Center of Excellence and Fort Sill, 2ndQuarter (QTR), Fiscal Year 2018, Sergeant Audie Murphy Award Board on 17 - 18 May2018. The Performance Test starts at Hellcat Field located east of Building 6120 CorralRoad NLT 0545 hrs. The Board will be conducted in the Regimental Conference Room(RCR) on the 3rd floor, 455 McNair Hall Avenue (McNair Hall). This is not a competitionbut an individual effort. Do not discuss or work with any other candidate during theselection board.4. Eligibility. All Active Army, US Army Reserve (USAR) and Army National Guard(ARNG) Soldiers in the ranks of Corporal through Master Sergeant/First Sergeant,based on FORSCOM installations or attached to FORSCOM units, are eligible for theSAMA. ARNG Soldiers who are not in Title 10 status or assigned to a FORSCOM unitmay compete for the FORSCOM SAMA while in Title 32 status upon approval of anexception to policy (ETP). The ETP must be submitted to CSM, US Army FORSCOMthrough the FORSCOM G-1, SGM. The ETP must be favorably endorsed by the StateARNG CSM. The ARNG SAMA board packet submitted to the FORSCOM CSM foraward approval must contain evidence of compliance with all four phases of the SAMAselection process. Service members of other armed services may compete for theFORSCOM SAMA if they are assigned or attached to a FORSCOM unit in a jointcoalition status. Specifically, candidates must meet the following requirements:a. The NCO must meet all Army Retention Standards.b. The nominee has not received any Article 15’s within two years.c. Nominees who do not have direct supervision of Soldiers may submit proofof active participation in external leadership roles.

Candidates must have attained at least 270 points without permanentprofile or 170 points with a permanent profile on their latest Army PhysicalFitness Test.5. Selection Process.a. The selection process for the SAMA will be executed in six (6) phases:(1) Phase I - Senior NCO’s Evaluation/Nomination. Senior NCOs whorecommend NCOs for the award of SAMA will screen and evaluate candidates prior toappearance before an initial selection board. This recommendation will be presented tothe board in the form of a written recommendation highlighting the following (Encl 1).(a) Describe the NCOs leadership achievements and performance that meritsspecial recognition.(b) How has the NCO contributed to the development of a professional NCOCorps and a combat ready Army?(c) How has the NCO exemplified leadership characterized by personal concernfor the needs, training, development, and welfare of Soldiers and concern for families ofSoldiers?(2) Phase II - Initial Selection Board. An initial selection board will be conductedat Battalion level under the direction of the unit’s senior NCO.(3) Phase III - Intermediate Selection Board. A selection board will be conductedat the Brigade level under the direction of the unit’s senior NCO. The board shall becomprised of voting members senior to the nominee. Nominees selected will continueby appearing before the final selection board.(4) Phase IV – Performance Test. 17 May 2018 / 0545 hrs. The SAMAperformance test will start at the Hell Cat Field NLT than 0545 hrs. The location isshown in Enclosure 6. All candidates are responsible for identifying the test area prior totest day. Candidates will bring the SAMA Evaluation Grade Sheets worksheet withthem the morning of. Each candidate will go through series of tasks to include; APFT(270 or above without permanent profile, or 170, or above with permanent profile),height and weight will be conducted immediately following the APFT inside Building5970. All candidates are responsible for identifying the testing locations prior to testday. The subject for the Written Test will be selected from the final board subject areas.Candidates will have an hour to complete the written exam and have to score aminimum of 80%; less than 80% will result in disqualification and the candidate will notcontinue on to the Essay Topic and Knowledge Board. Essay Topic will be issued 48hours prior to the Performance Test. Candidates will have two hours to complete thewritten essay portion. At the end of the two hours, essays will be collected and gradedIAW the rubric in Enclosure 7.2

Selection board willtake place in the Regimental Conference Room (RCR), 455 McNair Avenue (McNairHall). Nominees must report with their sponsor no later than NLT 0930 hrs. The SAMAfinal selection board will be comprised of the CSM, USAFCOEFS, as thePresident and three or more Command Sergeants Major or Sergeants Major appointedby the president, and a recorder without vote. Nominees are required to have a unitsponsor, senior to them in grade/position and a member of the SAMA, present at theselection board. Nominees require a unanimous vote from the board members to berecommended for induction. The board president will verbally counsel candidates notselected for induction. The candidates selected for induction will be introduced to thelocal SAMA chapter and presented appropriate awards.(a) Candidate Nomination packets: Nomination Packets for the Phase V FinalSelection Board will be prepared IAW Enclosure 2 and emailed to SSG Compton,James at james.a.compton.mil@mail.mil NLT 1600 hrs. on 14 May 2018, LATEPACKETS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Candidates will hand carry their leaders bookto the board.(b) Uniform. Nominees will wear the Army Service Uniform (ASU) (Female withslacks only), with all awards and decorations. Sponsors will wear the Army ServiceUniform (ASU) (Female with slacks only), with all awards and decorations. Boardmembers will wear the Army Combat Uniform (ACU).(6) Phase VI - Induction Ceremony. The SAMA induction ceremony, scheduled bythe SAMA president, and distributed by G3.
