He has been playing at Birmingham his whole life,and has been apart of the Birmingham Unified program for 4 years. Hehopes to continue his hockey careerfurther into college. A message forthe underclassmen is to enjoy everymoment you can, because it will beover before you know it. Patrick’sdream is to attend the University ofMichigan and to play club hockey asa Wolverine.Mark Deacon #7Mark started skating in the backyard at 3 years old. He joined theBirmingham Hockey Association at 5and played there until he was 12. Hethen joined the Birmingham Libertyfor one year then moved on to RoyalOak. Mark joined the BU program asa sophomore playing with the JV andCoach Chateau. Mark loves playingdefense and is looking forward to agreat senior year.

B I R M I N G HAM U N I F I E DS E N I O RSKevin Kristopik #5 CaptainAt the age of 4, Kevin began his hockey career asa “chair pusher” at the Learn to Skate programin Royal Oak. He especially loved laying on theice and making snow angels during the instruction time! Eventually he got the hang of skatingand hasn’t stopped since. He has participatedin both the Royal Oak and Birmingham househockey programs, as well as travel hockeyfor Birmingham—the Birmingham Liberty. Hisfavorite hockey times have been as a memberof the BU hockey teams. He played JV asa freshman and sophomore and Varsity asa junior. Kevin loved winning the JV championship! Last year, the playoff gameagainst Orchard Lake St. Mary’s was quite a memory. Kevin hopes to participatein hockey in some way in college---either as a fan or on a club team or both!Kenneth Jacob O’Hanlon #9Kenn started his hockey career when hewas eight years old, playing defense as amite for the Southfield Hockey Club. Thefollowing year he moved over to Royal OakHockey where he chose to change his position to a forward. This is where Kenn playedfor the majority of his time. He also chose toplay travel for a season, as a defenseman/forward for the Royal Oak Eagles. Duringhis final year at Royal Oak Kenn switchedto the Adray League where his team wenton to win the State Championship. After thathe joined the high school team as a freshman on the JV team for two years andtwo years as a varsity player. Kenneth is planning on attending the University ofMichigan next year and will always play hockey somewhere.

B I R M I N G HAM U N I F I E DS E N I O RSMichael Madigan #24Ever since the age of 5 Michael hasdisplayed a love for the game of hockey.Whether it was skating on the back yardrink or the verity of travel teams, Michaelhas never lost his passion of the game.He skated for the Birmingham Rangers,Orchard Lake Pirates, and the SouthfieldWarriors, before joining the BU HockeyProgram. Michael has skated for BU thepast three seasons. Great friends andmemories have been made over thesepast three years! Michael hopes to takehis passion for the game to the next leveland skate for Ole Miss while earning adegree in Business.Jacob Saroli #1At age 2, Jacob was constantly roller blading through the housewith a plastic hockey stick recruiting anyone and everyone toplay hockey. At age 4, Jacob started playing for the Royal Oakhouse team as a center. After being asked to take a turn playinggoalie, Jacob realized that was his passion. There were numerouscold evenings that he would have his mom shooting on him in thedriveway for hours at a time. It was when he requested that his mom get in the goalthat she drew the line! In his Squirt year, Jacob was awarded the “Vezna trophy” byhis coach for having broken the shutout record with a total of 14 shut outs thatseason. After finishing his Squirt year at Royal Oak, he moved to MichiganTravelers where he managed a 93% save average that year and “began all thegoalie superstitions” that come with the position. From there, he found his homewith BU hockey, where his first year in JV, they won the BU JV championship. His2nd year with BU hockey, Jacob won the MVP award and is now very excited for hissenior season and to finish his high school career on a high note

B I R M I N G HAM U N I F I E DS E N I O RSAdam Susalla #17 CaptainAdam started skating when he was 5years old at Royal Oak’s John LindellArena. He played in the Royal Oakhouse program until he was 10. He reished those 6am games and practices.Something about being home beforethe sun comes up in the dead of winter.Adam went on to play travel for theBirmingham Rangers until his freshmanyear when he played for the Birmingham Unified JV team. Adam has beenskating with the Varsity squad sincehe was a sophomore. After graduation,Adam will be attending the University ofDetroit-Mercy where he will be studyingengineering and playing lacrosse.Zach Tayler #11 Assistant CaptainZach has been playing hockey through the BirminghamHockey Association and later through the BirminghamRangers travel program since he was 5 years old. He beganhis BU career as a sophomore on the JV team, and neverlooked back. Zach worked hard to improve his game, andmoved up to the varsity team last year. His favorite BUmemory is scoring against Orchard Lake St. Mary’s in hisfirst career state tournament appearance last year. Zachwas also captain of Seaholm’s Varsity Tennis Team, winning a state championship at his individual flight. In his junior year he was namedan Advanced Placement Scholar with Honor and just received his 4th OAA Scholarathlete award. Zach has applied preferred admission to the University of Michigan’sRoss School of Business, and is also applying to the University of Pennsylvania, NewYork University, Northwestern University, and the University of Miami (FL). He plansto pursue his interest in executive management in college, along with playing in theACHA. He would also like to thank his family for all of their support.

B I R M I N G HAM U N I F I E DVARS IT Y COAC H ESJOHN CHATEAU Head CoachAfter coaching BU JV for the last 5 seasons this is CoachJohns’ first year back in the varsity ranks since 2007. Hetook BU JV from a sub .500 record in 2008 to a leaguechampionship in 2010 and a 2nd place league finish last season. Coach Chateau brings a wealth of hockey knowledgeto the program, specifically in the development of playersand teams. After playing youth hockey in the area he went on to play ClubHockey for Central Michigan University and later was the Graduate Assistant Coach for the 1999 Men’s hockey team. Coach Chateau then startedthe Utica Eisenhower hockey program in 2000, the first varsity team in Macomb County (there are currently 17 teams). During his tenure with Eisenhower, he compiled a 55-34-11 record and MAC Red Division Championshipsfrom 2004-2006, Regional appearances in 2004 and 2006 and a MHSAAState Final four appearance in 2006. During this period he was named MACRed Coach of the Year 2004, 2005, and 2006. In addition, Coach Chateauhas been a Lead instructor for the Suburban Hockey Schools from 2005 present. Coach Chateau currently lives in Shelby Twp. with wife Heather, 5year old son Brendan and 3 year old daughter Lauren. Follow him on twitter@coachchateauCHRIS BALLACH Assistant CoachChris joins the BU Varsity staff after serving as assistant toHead Coach John Chateau on the BU JV team. His playing background includes playing his minor hockey between the FraserFalcons and Belle Tire AAA organizations. He played his juniorhockey in the CSHL for the Motor City Chiefs and Wayne Wheelsas well as stops in Canadian junior hockey with the AlvingstonFlyers and the Strathroy Rockets. Chris finished his playing career at Oakland University where in 2004 he helped the Grizzlies to an ACHA NationalChampionship. Chris is currently the Hockey Director at the ONYX Ice Arenawhere he has overseen the Rochester Hockey Club for the last three years.He has also been involved with Suburban Hockey Schools as a lead instructor since 2003. He will be working the defensive side of the bench this yearand also be serving as both the Varsity and JV goaltending coach. Chris currently resides in Richmond Michigan with his brother Nick and dog Maddie.NICK BALLACH Assistant CoachThis will be Nick’s first year behind the bench for theKings. He bring years of hockey experence to the staffand will be working with the forwards. Nick grew up playing in the Warren Hockey Association and currently attendsMacomb Community College where he is studyingAutomotive Management.

His playing background includes playing Juniorhockey for the Motor City Chiefs in the CSHL in 2006 and thencompleting his last four years of juniors in Ontario with theWallaceburg Lakers, Leamington Flyers, and Chatham Maroons. In his final season with the Flyers, he was named captain of the team, a rarity for an American born player. He also attended camp with the 1000Island Privateers of the Federal Hockey League (minor professional).Steve is currently the Hockey Director at Suburban Ice Macomb wherehe has overseen the Macomb Hockey Club as well as the Macomb AdultHockey Leagues for the past 18 months. Steve has also been involvedwith Suburban Hockey Schools as a lead instructor since 2008. Hecurrently resides in Fraser with his wife Jessica, daughter Hailey (5), and sonAiden (14 months).NICK STONER Assistant CoachBorn in Southern California, Nick Moved to Michigan andstarted skating at Royal Oak Ice Arena at the age of 3.Playing youth hockey throughout his schooling he played tierII Junior hockey in High school. He also was a three yearVarsity Football player, and was a starter his Junior/Senioryear For Rochester High School. After High School, Nick decided to takehis athleticism elsewhere, and focus his attention on Snow cross. NickCurrently Works for Rochester Hills Fire dept. as a Firefighter/EMT, Alsofor Suburban Sports Group as a Hockey Instructor. Nick was hired as aLearn to Skate Instructor 2006-2010. Nick is now a Hockey Instructor forSuburban Hockey Schools. Nick is excited to become part of theBirmingham United coaching staff. We are happy to have his experience andknowledge working with young players.
