Depending on which Cal Grantyou get, the money can beused for tuition, room andboard, even books and pencils. The best part is, it's yoursto keep and you don't have topay it back. These awards are not guaranteed and only a limited number are available each year—halfare set aside for students whoapply by the March 2 deadline .To be considered for a 2015-16 Cal Grant award, you musthave completed both of theseapplication requirements byMarch 2, 2015*:1.Submitted a 2015-16 Free Application for Federal Student Aid(FAFSA) or a 2015-16 CaliforniaDream Act Application.2.Ensured that a certified GradePoint Average (GPA) was submitted to the California Student AidCommission (Commission).The Commission will not processany GPAs that may have beensubmitted in prior years. In orderfor a student to be considered fora 2015-2016 Cal Grant award, anew GPA form must be receivedby the Commission by the stateddeadline.Cal Grant A Entitlementawards can be used for tuitionand fees at public and privatecolleges as well as some privatecareer colleges.
