2009 - 2010Greek AffairsYear in ReviewDear Friends of the Fraternity and Sorority Life Community at MTSU,During the 2009-2010 academic year, the MTSU fraternity and sorority community experienced growthand development in some areas, and were challenged in others. The Greek Life Annual Report isintended to highlight the achievements of the Greek community over the past year, as well as identifyopportunities for improvement. There are many significant accomplishments that made the 2009-2010academic year a success. Some of the highlights are as follows:The formation of the Multicultural Greek Council. The Multicultural GreekCouncil was formed in September of 2009 and serves as the governing body forLambda Theta Alpha and Lambda Theta Phi.The addition of three fraternities (Kappa Sigma, Lambda Theta Phi, and Iota PhiTheta), and the reactivation of one sorority (Zeta Tau Alpha). The reactivation of Order of Omega. Order of Omega is a Greek honor societythat recognizes juniors and seniors who have exemplified high standards in theareas of scholarship, leadership, involvement within their respective organizationand within the Greek, campus and local community. Members are selected from thetop 3% of Greeks at MTSU.The reactivation of the Greek Life Task Force. The Greek Life Task Force iscomprised of students, staff, faculty, advisors, and other constituents that arecommitted to the MTSU Greek community. This group worked to assess thestrengths and weaknesses of the Greek community in an effort to create a strategicplan for the MTSU Greek community.Creation of the New Member Education Program. The New Member EducationProgram serves as an opportunity for new members to become familiar with theGreek community at MTSU. Additionally, members were presented with an antihazing workshop.6H[XDO VVDXOW 7UDLQLQJV 7KH 2IILFH RI *UHHN IIDto offer these trainings to the fraternity and sorority community. While we had many successes this year, it is imperative that we acknowledge our challenges. Many ofour issues were associated with a lack of commitment to fraternal values. Those challenges includedalcohol violations, hazing, poor decision making, apathy, and low accountability amongst the Greekcommunity. As you reflect upon this report, we ask that you begin to think critically about how wepartner to create a Greek community that is true to its fraternal values as well as those of the University. As we enter our 41st year as a Greek community, we are embarking upon unchartered territory, and hopeWKDW \RX ZLOO MRLQ XV DV ZH VWULYH WR EH RQH RI WWe thank you for your supporting the fraternal movement and the Fraternity and Sorority community atMTSU, and hope that you will continue your involvement in the future.Interfraternally,Angela N.
