Message From Our State ChaplainIt is June and summer is bursting forth, beginning with graduation parties and the planningof summer vacations and picnics.June is also the month that we honor the Sacred Heart of Jesus. As I was growing up Catholic, I thought all Catholics knew about the promises Jesus made to all of us who honor HisSacred Heart, when He appeared to St. Margaret Mary in 1672. I recently found out that manyCatholics have never heard of these promises.Jesus gave 12 promises to those devoted to His Sacred Heart and especially in these ways:To display an image of His Sacred Heart in their home;To go to confession and truly repent of their sins;To offer prayers and sacrifices for reparation of sins and conversion of sinners; And to receive Holy Communion on the 1st Friday of each month, at least for nine consecutive months. If you do not have an image of the Sacred Heart in your home, consider displaying one, going to confession andreceiving Holy Communion for nine consecutive months on 1st Friday. If you contemplate this, it only makes sense. His Heart is an expression of His love and for love to be complete, it has to be given, received and returned. Whenwe ask for forgiveness in confession, we are asking Jesus to bestow His love on us in forgiveness as we give Him ourlove by owning up to our faults and pledging to be better. When we receive Communion, we are receiving His lovegiven to us by emptying His whole love for us in the sacrifice of His Life for us.Jesus told St. Margaret Mary that as we look upon the image of His Sacred Heart, to know: The fire coming fromthe top of the heart symbolizes Him on fire with love for us; the wound is His being pierced in the heart and pouringout His whole self for us; and the crown of thorns is not the crown of thorns on His head during His passion, butinstead are the thorns piercing His heart by those who claim they love Him but do not live up to that love. The 12 promises are:1. I will give them all the graces necessary in their state of life.2. I will establish peace in their homes.3. I will comfort them in all their afflictions.4. I will be their secure refuge during life, and above all, in death.5. I will bestow abundant blessings upon all their undertakings.6. Sinners will find in my Heart the source of an infinite ocean of mercy.7. Lukewarm souls shall become fervent.8. Fervent souls shall quickly mount to high perfection.9. I will bless every place in which an image of myHeart is exposed and honored.10. I will give to priests the gift of touching the mosthardened hearts.11. Those who shall promote this devotion shall havetheir names written in my Heart.12. I promise you in the excessive mercy of my Heartthat my all-powerful love will grant to all those whoreceive Holy Communion on the First Fridays in nineconsecutive months the grace of final perseverance; theyshall not die in my disgrace, nor without receiving theirsacraments. My divine Heart shall be their safe refuge inthis last moment.Sacred Heart of JesusJose Maria Ibarraran y Ponce (1854-1910)Reprinted with permission, RestoredTraditions.comCatholic Daughters, Pennsylvania State Court F Summer 2018Sacred Heart Prayer: O most Holy Heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing, I adore You, I love You, and witha lively sorrow for my sins, I offer You this poor heart ofmine. Make me humble, patient, pure and wholly obedient to Your will. Grant, good Jesus, that I may live in Youand for You. Protect me in the midst of danger; comfortme in my afflictions; give me health of body and mind, assistance in my temporal needs, Your blessing on all thatI do and the grace of a holy death. Amen.—Rev. Tony Gargotta, State Chaplain3

The Institution of a New Pennsylvania StateCatholic Daughters CourtOur Lady of Fatima Court #2739IIn Gratitude from CourtOur Lady of Fatima #2739first became aware of CatholicDaughters in late fall 2014, duringa trip to Coudersport, Pennsylvania. My father, a native of Potter County, was a 4th Degree Knight at the timeof his passing, and my family madethe trip north to present his Chaliceand Paten (a gift from the Knights of Columbus) to hishome Parish of St. Eulalia. Catholic Daughters were mentioned in the church bulletin and on St. Eulalia’s website. My interest was piqued. When I came home to Chester County, I was dismayed to learn that there was no local Catholic Daughters Court. “Too bad,” I thought; “too bad.”A subsequent trip north, and a second exposure toCatholic Daughters revived my interest—so I emailedCatholic Daughters this time. I figured I would wait agood while for my answer. I was wrong. (How wrongwas I? Catholic Daughters could teach emergency responders a thing or two!)For eight months, starting in October 2017, representatives from Catholic Daughters selflessly devoted theirtime and talent to help our court take shape. Our sisterscame to Masses, recruited, conducted meetings, provided history, intervened on our behalf and championed us.Catholic Daughters made us a reality.Who—and what—is Court Our Lady of Fatima #2739?We are 17 women from six parishes. We are mothers, daughters, sisters, working and retired women —eachwith our unique experiences and motivation for coming together as a court. What brought us here is history. What will keep us here, mature and grow, is our future.During the coming months, we will establish ourcourt standing rules and determine our organizationalobjectives. We will begin to form our spiritual, educational and community outreach missions. We will participate in Diocesan work. We will honor our past and helpforge our legacy. We will work together and with othersin Charity and Unity.I like a good moral when there is one, so here’s mine:When you think someone isn’t observing, they are. If youthink what you are doing doesn’t matter, you just mightbe missing your purpose for being. Someone, somewhere, at some time will benefit from something you do,no matter how routine or insignificant your actions seem.Small acts performed with great love do matter. We existbecause of them.—Melissa Secott, Regent, Court Our Lady of Fatima #27396With the permission of Rev. Joseph C. Dieckhaus, Pastor ofSS. Philip and James in Exton, Pennsylvania, Colette McCaffrey, StateTreasurer, Doris Kitt, Regent #1641,and I traveled last fall to the parishfor all the Masses on Saturday andSunday for two weekends to do amembership drive. By March, we had seventeen women whohad signed applications forms and paid their dues. Theywould become the charter members of this court. I wasso glad that I was able to participate and see these ladiesbecome members of Court Our Lady of Fatima #2739.On Sunday, May 6th, we attended the noon Masscelebrated by the pastor. What Do We KnowAbout Our State Projects? Our state projects are the charitieswithin Pennsylvania that the StateBoard along with the State Membership has selected to support. We do thisfinancially and sometimes actually dohands-on activities, as in the case of theHaiti Birthing Center.Even though this project is not in our state, the Carmelite Community of the Word Sisters is located in Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, and this is a commitment of theirs. Many of these Sisters belong to CDA and they, alongwith their auxiliary groups, travel to Haiti every year tosupport their Little Sisters of the Incarnation of Haiti intheir vision and dream and help build their communityboth physically and spiritually. The pictures show the inside and outside of the birthing center along with some of the children who are taughtby the Little Sisters. One of the hands-on projects that CDA has verysuccessfully participated in are the Birthing Kits whichwould include:1. Two – 8”pieces of ¼ twill tape for cord ties2. One new razor blade (single wrapped and safelywrapped and placed in a baggie)3. One regular sized bath towel (thinner rather thanthicker)4. One 36“ piece of muslin or sheeting5. Two disposable pads (those used for incontinentpatients)6. One thin wash cloth7. One bath size bar of ivory soap8. One small purse-sized container of germicidalhand wash9. One newborn stocking cap (jersey, not knittedor crocheted)10. One small cotton-blend/flannel shirt to waistonly (infants in Haiti do not wear diapers)11. One receiving blanket, not fleece12. Two pair plastic/latex gloves (no kitchen gloves)Place cord ties and razor blade into a Ziploc bag. Wrapeverything inside the bath towel. Place into a two-gallonZiploc bag. Squeeze air out and seal it.These items can be taken to the Sisters IncarnationHouse in Gallitzin or brought to the State Conventionnext spring. More to follow —Shirley Hall, 1st Vice State RegentPrayer for VocationsFather, we're your people, the work of your hands. So precious are we in your sight that you sent yourSon, Jesus. Jesus calls us to heal the broken-hearted, todry the tears of those who mourn, to give hope to thosewho despair, and to rejoice in your steadfast love. We, thebaptized, realize our call to serve. Help us to know how.Call forth from among us priests, sisters, brothers andlay ministers. With our hearts you continue to love yourpeople. Things likethat can get us down in the dumps and very stressed. When that occurs, I question, “Lord, why did this happen?” I know that as a human, I don’t see the wholepicture. I don’t know all God’s plans. After much pondering, talking it out, and praying, I think of the DivineMercy picture. “Jesus, I Trust in You.” Offering it up toHim, is my best way to get back on track, to leave thesuffering behind, and to continue my Catholic Daughterlife of spirituality and service.—Margaret T.
