1THE SHAHAADATAYN

2THE SHAHAADATAYN01THESHAHAADATAYN

3THE SHAHAADATAYNTHE TWO TESTIMONIESOF FAITHThese are the testimonies that noone has the right to be worshippedbut Allah, and that Muhammad is Hisslave and messenger. This is a verbalpillar of Islam, but one must also followit with belief and action. This is the keyto enter Islam.THE MEANING OF THE FIRSTTESTIMONY:This is the phrase of Tawheed1. For thisconcept, Allah brought the creation intobeing, and for this concept He createdParadise and Hellfire. Allah says:“And I have created neither the Jinnnor mankind except to worship Me.”[51:56]This is the belief to which all Prophets1Tawheed: The concept of the Oneness ofAllah.

4THE SHAHAADATAYNand Messengers called their peoples, may Allah praise them and keep themsafe from all evil. Allah says:“And we have not sent before youany messenger except that We haverevealed to him that there is no godthat is worshipped in truth except Me,so worship and obey Me.” [21:25]The name, “Allah”, written in blockcalligraphy

5THE SHAHAADATAYNThe first testimony, that none hasthe right to be worshipped but Allah, includes the following meanings:Allah is the Creator of all that exists.Allah says:“Such is Allah, your Lord! Nonehas the right to be worshipped butHim, the Creator of all things. Soworship and obey Him Alone, andHe is the Guardian over all things.”[6:102]Allah is the Proprietor of all thatexists, and the Disposer of allaffairs2. Allah says:“Surely, His is the Creation andCommandment. Blessed be Allah, the Lord of all that exists!” [7:54]23Allah is the One who deserves tobe worshipped.3 Allah says:Points one and two are known as Tawheedar-Ruboobiyyah, or the Oneness of Allah’sLordship. This is the belief that there is noCreator, Provider, Sustainer, and Ownerexcept for Allah. This is the concept known as Tawheed al-

6THE SHAHAADATAYN“Unquestionably, to Allah belongswhoever is in the heavens andwhoever is on the earth. Andthose who invoke other than Allahdo not actually follow His allegedpartners. They follow not exceptassumption, and they only inventlies.” [10:66]To Him belong the beautiful namesand perfect attributes. Far removedis He from every imperfection.4Allah says:“And all the Most Beautiful Namesbelong to Allah, so call on Himby them, and leave the companyof those who belie or deny HisNames. They will be requited forwhat they used to do.” [7:180]4Uloohiyyah, or the Oneness of Allah in Hisworship. This concept is known as Tawheed alAsmaa was-Sifaat, that Allah has the BestNames and Attributes, and that there arenone equal or comparable to them.

7THE SHAHAADATAYNTHE CONDITIONS OF THETESTIMONY:It is not enough to merely say thistestimony for it to be accepted by Allah. It is a key to the gates of Paradise, butin order for the key to work, it needs tohave the right ridges. This Testimonymust meet the following conditions forit to be accepted by Allah:1. KNOWLEDGE: This comprisesknowing that all things worshippedbesides Allah are false. There isno god worshipped in truth exceptAllah, even if it be a prophet, amessenger or an angel. Allah isthe only One Who deserves alltypes of worship, such as prayer, supplication, hope, sacrifice, fasting, etc.Whoever assigns any act ofworship to other than Allah whilethat person intends to worshipor aggrandize the one who heassigned it to, has committed an

8THE SHAHAADATAYNact of disbelief, even if he utteredthe two testimonies.2.CERTAINTY: The heart must befirmly certain of the meaning ofthe two testimonies. Certainty isthe opposite of doubt, so there isno room for a person to doubt orhesitate in his belief. Allah says:“The believers are only those whohave believed in Allah and HisMessenger, and afterward doubtnot, and strive with their wealth andtheir lives for the Cause of Allah. Those are the truthful.” [49:15]3. ACCEPTANCE: One should acceptthe testimony fully, and not rejectit.5 Allah says:“Truly, when it was said to them,‘There is no true deity worshipped5It is not sufficient that a person knows whatthe Shahaadah means and believes itwith certainty. Rather he must accept it bypronouncing it, and accepts to become aMuslim.

9THE SHAHAADATAYNexcept Allah,’ they puff themselvesup with pride in denial.” [37:35]4.SUBMISSION,obedienceand acting upon all what thetestimonies necessitate.6 A personmust do what Allah ordered andabstain from what He prohibited.Allah says:“And whosoever submits his faceto Allah, while he is a Muhsin7then he has grasped the mosttrustworthy hand hold. And to Allah6 It is not sufficient that a person knows whatthe Shahaadah means and believes it withcertainty, accepts it by pronouncing it andaccepts to become a Muslim. Rather, hemust also act according to it.7 Muhsin: Literally, a person who does somethingwell. Here it means one who does righteousdeeds sincerely for Allah, according tothe method the Prophet of Allah mentionsboth submission to Allah along with doingrighteous deeds, and if a person does these,he has grasped the Shahaadah.

10THE SHAHAADATAYNreturn all matters for decision.”[31:22]5.6.TRUTHFULNESS: One mustbe truthful in professing thetestimonies.8 Allah says:“They say with their tongues whatis not within their hearts.” [48:11]SINCERITY OF WORSHIP: Onemust sincerely dedicate all acts ofworship to Allah alone.9 Allah says:“And they were not commandedexcept to worship Allah, followingthe religion purely and sincerelyfor Him, turning away from otherreligions.” [98:5]7. LOVE: One must love the testimoniesand all that they necessitate. Hemust love Allah, His Messenger,8 Even though a person may be doing all thesethings on the outside, he might be hidingdisbelief in his heart, like the Hypocrites.9 It may be that one fulfills all the previousconditions, but he directs worship to otherthan Allah at times, like supplicating to thedead, etc. Such a person has not made hisworship purely for Allah.

11THE SHAHAADATAYNand His righteous servants. He mustshow enmity towards all who showenmity to Allah and His Messenger. He must prefer what Allah and HisMessenger love, even if it differsfrom his desires. Allah says:“Say: If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your wives, yourkindred, the wealth that you havegained, the commerce in which youfear a decline, and the dwellingsin which you delight are dearer toyou than Allah and His Messenger, and fighting in His Cause, thenwait until Allah brings about HisDecision. And Allah does not guidethe defiantly disobedient people.”[9:24]These testimonies also necessitatethat Allah is the only One Who hasthe right to legislate, whether it be inmatters concerning worship or thoseconcerning human relations, in bothindividual and public matters.

12THE SHAHAADATAYNThe act of making somethingprohibited or lawful is for Allah alone. His Messenger merely explained andclarified Allah’s commandments. Allahsays:“And whatsoever the Messenger givesyou, take it, and whatsoever he forbidsyou, refrain from it.” [59:7]

13THE SHAHAADATAYNWhen one fulfills the conditions of theShahadah, he would free himself fromworshipping man and devote all acts ofworship to the Creator of man. This would leadone to being independent. The Merits Of Iman: A sense of securitythrough the knowledge that there is someoneto turn to in times of hardships.

14THE SHAHAADATAYNTHE MEANING OF THE SECONDTESTIMONY, THAT ‘MUHAMMADIS HIS MESSENGER’To bear witness that Muhammad theMessenger of Allah necessitates thefollowing:1. To believe that he is a Messenger, and that he is last of theMessengers; no Messenger willcome after him. Allah says:“Muhammad is not the father ofany man among you, but he is theMessenger of Allah and the last ofthe Prophets.” [33:40]2. To believe that he is infallible in theteachings he conveyed from Allah.Allah, the Exalted, says:“Nor does he speak of his owninclination. It is only an Revelationthat is revealed to him.” [53:3-4]As for the affairs of this world, hewas a human, and he had his ownopinions. The Prophet ﷺ said:“Indeed I am only a human. It may

15THE SHAHAADATAYNbe that a claimant comes to mewith a dispute, and due to one ofthem being more convincing inspeech than the other, I may rulein his favor. Whoever was ruled inhis favor while he is wrong, whathe is receiving without right is onlya portion of the Hellfire, so let himtake it or leave it.” [Muslim]3. To believe that he is a Messenger toall creation; to Jinn and to humansuntil the Final Hour. Allah says:“And We have not sent you [OMuhammad ]ﷺ except to all ofmankind, as a giver of glad tidingsand a warner, but most peopleknow not.” [34:28]4. To obey the Prophet ﷺ in what heordered, to believe in everything hesaid, and to refrain from what heforbade and warned against. Allahsays:“And whatsoever the Messengergives you, take it, and whatsoever

16THE SHAHAADATAYNhe forbids you, refrain from it.” [59:7]5. To follow and adhere to theProphet’s ﷺ Sunnah, withoutinnovating matters in it. Allah, theExalted, says:“Say [O Muhammad ]ﷺ : If you trulylove Allah then follow my example,Allah will love you and forgiveyou your sins. And Allah is OftForgiving, Most Merciful.” [3:31]Muhammad ﷺ

17THE SHAHAADATAYNTHE MERITS OF IMAN (BELIEF) INAllah1. When one fulfills the conditionsof the Shahadah, he would freehimself from worshipping man anddevote all acts of worship to theCreator of man. This would leadone to being independent. Allahsays:“Say: ‘Then have you consideredwhat you invoke besides Allah? If Allah intended me harm, arethey removers of His harm; or ifHe intended me mercy, are theywithholders of His mercy?’ Say,‘Sufficient for me is Allah; uponHim [alone] rely the [wise] reliers.’”[39:38]2. Peace of heart, mind and soul.Allah says:“Those who believe and whosehearts find rest in the remembranceof Allah, Verily, in the remembranceof Allah do hearts find rest.” [13:28]

18THE SHAHAADATAYN3. Sense of security through the4.knowledge that there is someone toturn to in times of hardships. Allahsays:“And when harm touches you uponthe sea, those that you call uponbesides Him vanish from you exceptHim. But when He brings you safelyto land, you turn away [from Him].And man is ever ungrateful.” [17:67]The feeling of spiritual joy inworshipping Allah. This is due tothe fact that the goal which he istrying to achieve (Jannah) cannotbe reached except after death. Soyou see him persistently striving toachieve this goal by doing righteousdeeds, rendering all acts of worshipsincerely and purely to Allah alone.Allah says:“Say: ‘Verily, my prayer, mysacrifice, my living and my dyingare for Allah, the Lord of the worlds. He has no partner. And of this I

195.6.THE SHAHAADATAYNhave been commanded, and I amthe first of the Muslims.’” [6:162-163]The guidance and success whichis granted by Allah to those thatbelieve in Him. Allah says:“ and whosoever has faith in Allah,He guides his heart.” [64:11]The love of doing righteous deedsand its propagation amongst themasses. Allah says:“So whosoever does good equal tothe weight of an atom shall see it.”[99:7]The Prophet ﷺ said:“Indeed the one who leads anotherto do a righteous deed is like theone who actually does it10.” (Tirmidhi#2670)10 He will receive the same reward.

20BELIEF IN THE ANGELS02BELIEFIN THEANGELS

21BELIEF IN THE ANGELSIt is to believe that the Angels arefrom the creation of Allah; no-oneknows their exact number exceptHim. They are from the unseenworld. Allah created them toworship and obey Him. Allah says:“Never would the Messiah disdainto be a servant of Allah, nor wouldthe angels near [to Him]. Andwhoever disdains His worship andis arrogant - He will gather them toHimself all together.” [4:172]The Angels are a creation of Allahwhich He created from light. TheMessenger of Allah ﷺ said:“The angels were created fromlight, the Jinn were created froma smokeless flame of fire, andAdam was created from what wasdescribed to you (in the Qur an:black dry clay).” [Muslim]Allah created them to do certaintasks; which they execute. Allahsays:

22BELIEF IN THE ANGELS“[The angels say], ‘There is notamong us any except that he has aknown position. And indeed, we arethose who line up [for prayer]. Andindeed, we are those who exaltAllah.’” [37:164-166]Allah has informed us of someof their names, such as Jibreel(Gabriel), Mikaa eel (Michael), andIsraafeel (Rafael). Allah says:“Whoever is an enemy to Allah andHis Angels and His Messengersand Gabriel and Michael - thenindeed, Allah is an enemy to thedisbelievers.” [2:98]Jibreel is the angel who descendswith the revelation upon themessengers, who convey it to theirnations. Allah says:“The Trustworthy Spirit has broughtit down. Upon your heart, (OMuhammad )ﷺ , that you may beof the warners.” [26:193 -194]

23BELIEF IN THE ANGELSMerits of belief in the Angels: one wouldsafeguard himself from believing insuperstitions and fables.Merits of belief in the Angels: one wouldrecognize the mercy Allah shows tohis slaves; for Allah assigned to everyindividual angels who guard him and takecare of his affairs.

24BELIEF IN THE ANGELSMeekaa eel is assigned withthe task of distributing rain andvegetation, while Israafeel hasbeen assigned the task of blowingthe horn that signals the events ofthe Last Day. He will blow it for thefirst time, and all would be struckwith terror. Allah says:“And [mention] the Day the Hornwill be blown, and whoever is inthe heavens and whoever is on theearth will be terrified except whomAllah wills.” [27:87]Thereafter, he would blow thetrumpet two more times on theDay of Judgment; the second withwhich all would die, and the thirdwith which all would be resurrectedand brought back to life. Allah says:“And the Horn will be blown, andwhoever is in the heavens andwhoever is on the earth will falldead except whom Allah wills. Then it will be blown again, and atonce they will be standing, looking

25BELIEF IN THE ANGELSon.” [39:68]Among the angels is also the Angelof Death and his helpers. Allahsays:“And He is the subjugator overHis slaves, and He sends overyou guardian-angels until, whendeath comes to one of you, Ourmessengers take him, and they donot fail [in their duties]. Then theyare returned to Allah, their trueLord. Unquestionably, His is thejudgment, and He is the swiftest ofaccountants.” [6:61-62]Among them are also those whobear the Throne of Allah, and thosewho are also close to Him. Allahsays:“And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne ofyour Lord above them, that Day,eight [of them].” [69:17]Some have been assigned tasksin Jannah, while others have been

26BELIEF IN THE ANGELSassigned tasks in Hellfire. Allahsays:“O you who have believed, protectyourselves and your familiesfrom a Fire, whose fuel is peopleand stones, over which areangels, harsh and severe; theydo not disobey Allah in what Hecommands them but do what theyare commanded.” [66:6]Among them are those who havebeen assigned the task to protecthumans. Allah says:“For each [person] there areangels in succession, before andbehind him. They guard him by theCommand of Allah.” [13:11]Some of them record man’s deeds.Allah says:“And indeed, (appointed) over youare keepers1, noble and recording; They know whatever you do.”[82:10-12]1 Angels who preserve the deeds of menin records

27BELIEF IN THE ANGELSAllah created Angels to worshipHim. He says:“To Him belongs whoever is in theheavens and the earth. And thosenear Him are not prevented byarrogance from His worship, nor dothey tire. They exalt [Him] night andday and do not slacken.” [21:19-20]No one knows their exact numberexcept Allah. Allah says:“And We have not made thekeepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made theirnumber except as a trial for thosewho disbelieve.” [74:31]Whoever desires to learn more onthis subject may read books (whichare based on the Qur’an andauthentic Sunnah) which talk aboutthe angels and their duties.

28BELIEF IN THE ANGELSMERITS OF BELIEF IN THEANGELS1. One would understand the2.3.4.greatness of Allah, His powerand ability, and His AllEncompassingKnowledge, from the greatness of Hiscreation, which is a proofconfirming the greatness of theCreator. When a Muslim knows thatthere are Angels who recordall that he says and does, andthat everything he does is eitherfor him or held against him,he would be keen to performrighteous deeds and abstainfrom sins, whether he is aloneor in public. One would safeguard himselffrom believing in superstitionsand fables. One would recognize the mercyAllah shows to His slaves;for Allah assigned to every

29BELIEF IN THE ANGELSindividual angels who guard himand take care of his affairs.

30BELIEF IN THE BOOKS OF ALLAH03BELIEF INTHE BOOKSOF ALLAH

31BELIEF IN THE BOOKS OF ALLAHOne must believe that Allahrevealed Heavenly Books to HisMessengers in order to conveythem to mankind. These Books, during their times, containednothing but the truth. All theseBooks call people to worship Allahalone, and that He is the Creator,Proprietor and Owner, and to Himbelong the beautiful Attributes andNames.Allah says:“Indeed We have sent OurMessengers with clear proofs, andrevealed with them the Scriptureand the Balance that mankind maymaintain [their affairs] in justice.”[57:25]SOME OF THE BOOKS ARE:1. The Scriptures of Ibraheem(Abraham) and Musa (Moses):The Qur’an has given a briefinsight about the religious

32BELIEF IN THE BOOKS OF ALLAHfundamentals found in thesescriptures. Allah says:“Or, has he not been informedof what is in the scriptures ofMusa? And (of) Ibraheem, whofulfilled [the commandments]:That no bearer of burden shallbear the burden of another; andthat man shall have nothing butwhat he strives for; and thathis striving shall soon be seen. Then shall he be rewarded forit with the fullest reward; andthat to your Lord is the goal.”[53:36-42]2. The Torah: The Torah is theSacred Book which was revealedto Musa. Allah says:“Verily, We sent down theTorah, in which was guidanceand light. The prophets whosubmitted [to Allah] judged by itfor the Jews, as did the rabbis

33BELIEF IN THE BOOKS OF ALLAHand scholars by that with whichthey were entrusted of theScripture of Allah, and theywere witnesses thereto. So donot fear the people but fear Me,and do not exchange My versesfor a small price. And whoeverdoes not judge by what Allahhas revealed - then it is thosewho are the disbelievers.” [5:44]3. THE ZABOOR (PSALMS): TheZaboor is the Book which wasrevealed to Dawood (David).Allah says:“ and to Dawood We gave theZaboor.” [4:163]4. The Injeel (Gospel): The Injeelis the Book which was revealedto ‘Eesaa (Jesus). Allah says:“And We sent, following intheir footsteps, Jesus, the sonof Mary, confirming that whichcame before him in the Torah;

34BELIEF IN THE BOOKS OF ALLAHand We gave him the Gospel,in which was guidance andlight and confirming that whichpreceded it of the Torah asguidance and instruction for therighteous.” [5:46]A Muslim must believe in all theHeavenly Books and he mustbelieve that they are from Allah. It is not lawful for him to abideby their laws though, sincethese Books were revealed tocertain nations at certain times. The Qur’an has explainedsome of what was found in theTorah and the Injeel; such asthe prophecy of Muhammad ﷺ :“ but My mercy encompassesall things. So I will decreeit [especially] for those whofear Me and give zakah andthose who believe in Our

35BELIEF IN THE BOOKS OF ALLAHverses. Those who follow theMessenger, the unletteredprophet, whom they findwritten in what they have ofthe Torah and the Gospel, who enjoins upon them whatis right and forbids them whatis wrong and makes lawfulfor them the good things andprohibits for them the evil andrelieves them of their burdenand the shackles which wereupon them. So they who havebelieved in him, honored him, supported him and followed thelight which was sent down withhim - it is those who will be thesuccessful.” [7:156-157]5. The Noble Qur’an: One musthold the following beliefsconcerning it:A. One must believe that theQur’an is the Speech of Allah

36BELIEF IN THE BOOKS OF ALLAHwhich Jibreel (Gabriel) broughtto Muhammad ﷺ in a clearArabic language. Allah says:“The Trustworthy Spirit hasbrought it down, Upon yourheart, [O Muhammad] - thatyou may be of the warners In a clear Arabic language.”[26:193-195]B. One must believe thatthe Qur’an is the last ofthe Heavenly Books, whichconfirms the previous Booksconcerning the Message ofTawheed and the obligationto worship and obey Him. Allprevious Books were abrogatedby the Qur’an. Allah says:“[It is] He has sent down uponyou, [O Muhammad], the Book intruth, confirming what was beforeit. And He revealed the Torah andthe Gospel. Before, as guidance

37BELIEF IN THE BOOKS OF ALLAHfor the people. And He revealedthe Qur’an. Indeed, those whodisbelieve in the verses of Allahwill have a severe punishment, and Allah is exalted in Might, theOwner of Retribution.” [3:3-4]One must believe that the Qur’an is the lastof the Heavenly Books, which confirms theprevious Books concerning the Messageof Tawheed and the obligation to worshipand obey Him.

38BELIEF IN THE BOOKS OF ALLAHC. One must believe that theQur’an contains all divine laws.Allah says:“This day, I have perfected yourreligion for you, completed MyFavor upon you, and have chosenfor you Islam as a religion.” [5:3]D. One must believe that it wasrevealed to mankind at large;not to a specific nation, as werepreviously revealed HeavenlyBooks. Allah says:“And We have not sent youexcept comprehensively tomankind as a bringer of goodtidings and a warner. But mostof the people do not know.”[34:28]E. One must believe that Allahhas preserved the Qur’an fromall distortions, adulterations, additions, or impairments. Allahsays:

39BELIEF IN THE BOOKS OF ALLAH“Indeed, We have sent downthe revelation and surely, Weshall guard it [from distortion].”[15:9]

40BELIEF IN THE BOOKS OF ALLAHTHE MERITS OF BELIEF INAllah’S BOOKS1. One would realize the mercy2.3.and love Allah has for Hisservants; since He revealed tothem Books which guide themto the path which leads to Hispleasure. He safeguarded manfrom confusion and from the evilof Shaytaan1.One would realize the greatwisdom of Allah; since He gaveeach nation a set of laws thatsuited them during their times. To distinguish true believersfrom those who are not. Itis incumbent upon one whobelieves in his own Book tobelieve in the other HeavenlyBooks.1 Shaytaan: Satan: A Jinn named Ibleeswho disobeyed Allah’s order to prostrateto Adam, and therefore was cursedfor eternity. He asked Allah for respite, which He in turn granted, to strive to leadhumanity to the Hellfire with him.

41BELIEF IN THE BOOKS OF ALLAH4. To increase the good deeds of thebelievers; for the one who believesin his Book and the Books thatcame after his Book, would receivehis reward twice. Allah says:“Those to whom We gave theScripture before it - they arebelievers in it. And when it isrecited to them, they say: ‘Webelieve in it. Verily, it is the truthfrom our Lord. Indeed evenbefore it we have been fromthose who submit themselves toAllah. These will be given theirreward twice over, because theyare patient, and repel evil withgood, and spend (in charity)out of what We have providedthem.” [28:52-54]

42BELIEF IN ALLAH’S MESSENGERS04BELIEF INALLAH’SMESSENGERS

43BELIEF IN ALLAH’S MESSENGERSIt is to believe that Allah chose the finestamongst mankind to be Messengerswhom He sent to His creation withspecific legislations; to worship andobey Allah, and to establish His Deenand His Tawheed. He ordered HisMessengers to convey the Messageto people, so that they would not haveany proof against Allah1 after He sentthem.Allah also chose people amongstmankind as Prophets to affirm thelegislation and Deen of the messengersent before them and to call peopleto it. There are many prophets andmessengers; no one knows their exactnumber except Allah. Allah says:“And, indeed We have sent Messengersbefore you [O Muhammad ;]ﷺ of someof them We have related to you theirstory, and of some We have not relatedto you their story. And it was not for anymessenger to bring a sign [or verse]1 They will not be able to say, “Had Allahsent us messengers, we would havefollowed His commands and become ofthe believers.”

44BELIEF IN ALLAH’S MESSENGERSexcept by permission of Allah.” [40:78]One must believe in all of them andthat they were human; they were notsupernatural beings. Allah says:“And We sent not before you [OMuhammad ]ﷺ but men to whomWe inspired, so ask the people of themessage if you do not know. And Wedid not create them with bodies thathad no need to eat food, nor werethey immortal.” [21:7-8]Allah says about Jesus in the Qur’an:“The Messiah, son of Mary, was notbut a messenger; [other] messengershave passed on before him. And hismother was a supporter of truth. Theyboth used to eat food. Look how Wemake clear to them the signs; thenlook how they are deluded.” [5:75]One must believe in all of them. If onebelieves in some and disbelieves inothers, he leaves the folds of Islam.Allah says:“Verily, those who disbelieve in Allahand His Messengers and wish tomake distinction between Allah andHis Messengers saying, ‘We believe

45BELIEF IN ALLAH’S MESSENGERSin some but reject others’, and wishto adopt a way in between. Theyare in truth disbelievers. And Wehave prepared for the disbelievers ahumiliating torment.” [4:150-151]The first messenger was Noah, andthe last was Muhammad ﷺ .

46BELIEF IN ALLAH’S MESSENGERSWHO IS MUHAMMAD ?ﷺ His name is Muhammad bin2 Abdullahbin Abdul-Muttalib bin Haashim. HisKunyah3 is Abul-Qaasim. He wasfrom the Arab tribe of Quraish whoseancestry traces back to ‘Adnaan.‘Adnaan was from the children ofIsmaa eel, the Prophet of Allah andson of Ibraheem, the Khaleel4 of Allah. The Prophet ﷺ said:“Indeed Allah chose the tribe ofKinaanah over other tribes from thechildren of Ismaa’eel. He chose theQuraish over other tribes of Kinaanah. He chose Banu Haashim over theother families of the Quraish. AndHe chose me from Banu Haashim.”(Muslim #2276)He received his first revelation fromAllah at the age of forty, and heremained in Makkah thereafter forthirteen years calling to the Tawheedof Allah. He then migrated to Madinahand called its people to Islam, and they2 Bin, pl. Banu: ‘the Son of ’, “the childrenof ”3 Kunyah: A name similar to a Nickname.4 Khaleel: the one whom Allah loves most.

47BELIEF IN ALLAH’S MESSENGERSaccepted it. There, Allah revealed theremaining legislations. He conqueredMakkah eight years after his migration, and he died when he was sixty-three,after Allah revealed to him the wholeQur’an. All the legislations of thereligion were revealed, completedand perfected, and all the whole ofthe Arabian peninsula had acceptedIslam.MUHAMMAD ﷺ

48BELIEF IN ALLAH’S MESSENGERSTHE MERITS OF BELIEF IN THEMESSENGERS1. One would realize the mercyand love Allah has for Hisservants; since He sent to themMessengers who conveyedto them His religion. They inthemselves were exampleswhom people emulated.2. To distinguish the believers whoare truthful in their Faith fromothers; for it is incumbent uponone who believes in his ownMessenger to believe in otherMessengers who are mentionedin his Book.3. Those of the people of the Book(Jews and Christians) whobelieve in their Messengers andthen believe in Muhammad, may Allah exalt his mention, would receive double reward.

49BELIEF IN THE LAST DAY05BELIEF INTHE LASTDAY

50BELIEF IN THE LAST DAYIt is to believe that the life of thisworld will come to an end. Allahsays:“Whatsoever is on the earth willperish.” [55:26]1. To believe in the life of theBarzakh: This life is the timeafter one’s death until the LastDay. In it, the believer will livea life of pleasure, while thedisbeliever will be punished.Allah says:“The Fire; they are exposed toit, morning and afternoon, Andthe Day the Hour appears [itwill be said], ‘Make the peopleof Pharaoh enter the severestpunishment.’” [40:46]2. To believe in the Resurrection:Allah will resurrect mankind, naked, barefooted, anduncircumcised. Allah says:“The disbelievers claim that

51BELIEF IN THE LAST DAYthey will never be resurrected.Say, ‘Yes, by my Lord, you willsurely be resurrected; then youwill surely be informed of whatyou did. And that, for Allah, iseasy.’” [64:7]3. To believe in the Gathering:Allah will gather all creationtogether and call them toaccount. To believe that people will bebrought before Allah in rows:Allah says:“And they shall be broughtbefore your Lord, standing inrows: ‘You have certainly cometo Us just as We created youthe first time. Allah says:“Till, when they reach it, theirhearing and their eyes, and theirskins will testify against themas to what they used to do. Andthey will say to their skins, ‘Whydo you testify against us?’ Theywill say: ‘Allah has caused us tospeak, He causes all things tospeak: and He created you thefirst time, and to Him you aremade to return.’ And you havenot been hiding yourselves, lest your ears, and your eyes, and your skins testify againstyou; but you thought that Allahknew not much of what youwere doing.” [41:20-22]

53BELIEF IN THE LAST DAY6. To believe in the Questioning.Allah says:“But stop them; verily they areto be questioned. [They will beasked], ‘What is [wrong] withyou? Why do you not help eachother?’ But they, that Day, arein surrender.” [37:24-26]

54BELIEF IN THE LAST DAY7. To believe in the Siraat (Bridgeover the Hellfire) and thateveryone must pass over it.Allah says:“There is not one of you butwill pass over [Hell]; this isupon your Lord an inevitabilitydecreed.” [19:71]8. To believe in the weighing ofdeeds. Allah will call people toaccount an

Allah is the Proprietor of all that exists, and the Disposer of all affairs2. Allah says: “Surely, His is the Creation and Commandment. Blessed be Allah, the Lord of all that exists!” [7:54] Allah is the One who deserves to be worshipped.3 Allah says: 2 Points one and two are known as Tawheed ar-Ruboobiyyah, or the Oneness of Allah’s .
