"Unless we can release our past, it is held in our bodycells – it has a relentless effect on our body chemistry, perhaps eventually causing a real health problem. Ifunresolved emotions or feelings are not cleared, theycontinue to affect our lives – our relationships, ourperformance at work, our feelings about ourselves. Most ofthese unresolved feelings relate to events from when wewere young – they can be events that seem trivial whenviewed from the adult, rational mind but to our youngerselves they might have been traumatic, inducing fear, pain, guilt or low self-esteem that we continue to live with atsome level for the rest of our lives."Dr Caroline Myss, PhD 2014-2020 Rangana Rupavi Choudhuri (PhD)First edition: April 2012Second edition: August 2017Published by: Aparajita Publishing, Sai Spandan B Colony, (West gate)Kammavaripalli, Puttaparti, AP 515134 indiaEmail: ollege.infoPrinted and bound in indiano part of this publication may be reproduced, stored in electronic retrieval system ortransmitted in any form by any means without prior permission in writing from the author. That includes and is not exclusive to photocopying, electronic means, mechanical, recording or any information storage of retrieval system. n Emotional Stress and Poor HealthDid you know 85% of illnesses are stress induced?1 Chronic as well asunconscious stress upsets the natural balance of the nervous system, which disturbs the body’s natural ability to maintain and repair itself. This renders the body vulnerable to the effects of a poor diet, environmental toxins and microbes. Such a breakdown of a body’snatural abilities may result in disease and illness.A study by Kaiser Permanente involving over 70,000 individuals foundthat childhood emotional traumawas a significant enabler of certainchronic diseases and problematic“Pro-activelybehaviours in adults2, namely:lllSubstance abuse – alcoholism, drug addiction, and smoking;Depression;violent tendencies amounting todomestic abuse;lSuicidal tendencies;limpulsive promiscuity;lHealth hazards – liver disease, chronic obstructive pulmonarydisease, ischemic heart disease, and sexually transmitteddiseases.clearing dailystresses and pastemotional upsetsand traumas is thebest healthinsurance. Oncewe have health wehave everything.”in addition, over seventy published studies, two of which tracked11,000 people for twenty years, involving nearly 70,000 individualsfound a tenfold increase in depression susceptibility amongst thosewho’d faced childhood trauma as opposed to those who hadn’t.2Moreover, childhood trauma has also been found to increase the risk2

of cardiovascular disease inwomen and of depression inall adults.3Triggers to emotional injuryand trauma vary from personto person. For some, traumamay be sparked by seeminglybenign words of reproach; forothers, it may take verbal oreven physical abuse. irrespective, trauma is difficult regardless of theseverity.negative experiences can happen at school, home, and theworkplace. These can manifest in as a tendency to bully, an angrytemper, a feeling of being overwhelmed, and a lack of a sense ofcontrol.i wonder which of these tendencies you can relate to? What eventshave occurred that have caused you emotional pain? What triggersyou to feel stressed?n Suppressed Emotions and DiseaseThe current science on emotional healing is based on the work of DrCandace Pert, Dr Deepak Chopra, and Dr Bruce Lipton.Dr Deepak Chopra in his book Quantum Healing, states that traumaand suppressed negative emotions are often stored as ‘phantommemories’ in human cells. He argued that these cellular memories actsubtly over long periods of time and cause disease and illness evenyears after they first appear in the body.4Bruce Lipton has claimed that individuals also store negative eventsand traumas in a field of invisible energy that is perpetually in andaround them.53

Dr Candace Pert hasdisputed the commonnotion that the mind isconfined to the brain.instead, she concludedthat the mind is a “flow ofinformation” movingbetween all cells, organs, and systems of the body. This implies that the bodyis inseparable from themind – the body is the mind. This hypothesis concludes that whensomething changes in the mind, it causes changes in the body. Thus, negativity in the mind could lead to an illness of the body.6What these scientists collectively uncovered was that when emotionsare suppressed, an individual’s cell receptors become blocked. Thiscauses one’s DnA to alter for the worse, making the body more proneto illness. Conversely, when negative emotions are released, cellreceptors unblock, and the body can once more heal of its ownaccord.Within the body are a class of tiny proteins called neuropeptides, which are responsible for our emotions. Each emotion is representedby a separate neuropeptide; over time, if one’s body becomes mostaccustomed to experiencing aparticular emotion, one’s cellularstructure moulds itself to“The field is the soulaccommodate the characteristicshape of the neuropeptide thatgoverning agencyrepresents this feeling. Hence, ourof the particle.”emotions have a direct impact onAlbert Einsteinour internal biochemistry.4

“I suggest that the body and soul react to each otherin sympathy. A change in the state of the soul wouldnecessarily have an effect on the body and vice versa.”Aristotle, 400 BCA scientific study conducted by Heartmath institute demonstratedthat when strong positive emotions (for example love andappreciation) were evoked in participants, their DnA lengthened. However, when the very same individuals experienced strongnegative emotions, their DnA shortened and in some casesterminated. interestingly, this shortening was reversed whenparticipants reverted to concentrating on strong positive emotions. This clearly proves that our emotions influence our DnA – as ouremotions change, so does our genetic make-up.Thankfully, there is a solution. Through emotional healing tools, individuals access specific cell memories, traumas stored in theirenergy fields, as well as limiting emotions. They subsequently worktowards actively resolving and letting go of these injuries. Thus, engagers of emotional healing techniques achieve full health, healing, and vitality. There are multiple different emotional healing tools that uncover andclear the root causes of cell memories and traumas. A good toolcreates a space for free-flowing emotions, for healing, and for positivelife transformations. Three forms of emotional healing that i havefound most effective after cataloguing their usage on 1000s ofindividuals from around the world are:lEmotional Freedom TechniqueslThe Journey by Brandon Bayslinner Child Matrix5

n Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is an emotionalhealing tool that clears emotional stressors andblocks. With multiple responsibilities and fields in which toexcel, the average adult’s pace of life has becomeincreasingly hectic. in times like these, it may bedifficult to find time to care for one’s emotional wellbeing. This leadsto an unfulfilling and stressful life, offering little excitement or senseof holistic wellness. Such a life is undesirable. This is where emotional healing tools come in. EFT has been clinicallyapproved, and is used worldwide by millions. it is employed to reducedepression, anxiety, traumatic stress, phobias, pain, cravings, negativeemotions (for example, anger, sadness, grief, fear, hurt, and guilt), andnegative memories. The tool works on the principle that clearing suchnegativity gives room to wellbeing and calmness to enter the mind. The technique integrates the ancient science of acupressure withmodern day psychology. it involves tapping on acupressure pointsand repeating specific phrases, which releases stress and emotionaltraumas. This method works because negative emotions cause a disruption ofthe body’s energy system and tapping on the acupuncture points andsaying phrases out loud rewires this system. This creates a feeling of“EFT produces great healing benefit.”Deepak Chopra MD, Author, mind body spirit expert6

peace, calm, and liberation. it also engenders a cognition that is moreempowering, and the individual is left feeling motivated andcleansed.Extensive application of Energy Psychology treatments like EFT hasbeen proven to mitigate a wide variety of ailments. These include, butare not limited to:Emotional ChallengesllllllllProblematic Behaviour in ChildrenDiscords in RelationshipsLack of Anger ManagementDepressioninsomniaSymptoms of Severe TraumaPost Traumatic Stress SyndromeAddictions7

n The 7 Steps of the EFT Process: Let Goand Feel GoodBelow is a step-by-step guide to direct you through easily integratingEFT as a part of your daily routine.1. identify the problem by asking yourselflllWhat am i stressed about? What is upsetting me? Who isupsetting me?How does that make me feel? How does that really makeme feel?Where in my body do i feelthis stress or upset? What kindof a sensation is it? How doesthat make me feel?2. Measure the problem by askingyourself:lllWhere 10 is high severity and1 is low severity, how severe isthe stress?Where 10 is high severity and1 is low severity, how severe isthe emotional upset?Where 10 is high severity and1 is low severity, how severe isthis negative feeling?3. Tap the Karate Chop of one hand(refer to diagram) gently with themiddle three fingers of the otherhand, and say and believe thefollowing quote three times:9

“Even though I am faced with (state specific, detailed problem –what/who is the , how/what you feel, the severity number), I deeplyand completely accept myself.”Example: “Even though I am really stressed because I have too muchwork and it makes me feel anxious and it’s a 10/10, I deeply andcompletely accept myself.”4. Tap each point seven times as you say a phrase from eachproblem’s statement. Repeat key phrases out loud while tappingon the following points.Repeat key phrases out loud from the problem, for example theemotion of specifics about the problem, while tapping on thepoints shown below.lllllllll10Eyebrow – at the edge of the eyebrow just above the noseBeside the eye – on the bone bordering the outer corner of theeyeUnder the eye – on the bone just under the eyeUnder the nose – between the bottom of the nose and theupper lipChin – midway between the point of the chin and the middle ofthe lower lipShoulder – at the junction where the collarbone and first ribmeetUnder arm – under the arm about 10cm from the armpitThumb – on the outside of the thumb, level with the base of thenailIndex finger – on the side of the index finger closest to the thumb, level with the base of the nail (refrain if pregnant)

To begin the final clearingstage, repeat step 3.6. Relax. inhale gently, thenexhale gently. Take a sip ofwater. it is important todrink water to flush out thetoxins that this treatmentwill release.7. To test the results, measure the problem againfrom 1 to 10. notice howthe problem and associatedemotions have been alteredin severity. if any emotionalcharge persists, repeat allsteps until you feel liberated.Tap gently on the KarateChop point with themiddle three fingers fromthe other handOPTiOnAL TAPPing POinT: Top of the head. There are 1,000 meridiansthat meet on the top of the head. This is particularly recommendedfor positive tapping.12

n Stress Relief Through EFTStress, particularly emotionally related stress, is a known silent killer. Arecent report7 indicated those suffering from emotional stress weremore susceptible to cardiac issues. The Medical Journal JAMA reports:“Stress can cause a heart attack, sudden cardiac death, heart failure, orarrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythms) in persons who may not evenknow they have heart disease. Individuals with congestive heart failure, coronary heart disease, known arrhythmias, or other heart or bloodvessel diseases should avoid emotional stress whenever possible andlearn to manage the effects of stress.”8Stress triggers the hormone ‘cortisol’, which causes havoc within thebody’s circulatory, hormonal, immune, and digestive systems. Forexample, irritable Bowel Syndrome (iBS), which is a disorder of thedigestive system, has now been confirmed as an effect of stress. The good news is that studies have shown a regular practice ofexercises – breathing, physical exercise, meditation, and emotionalrelease – can reduce cortisol levels, resulting in a feeling of calmnessand well-being. in particular, EFT has been clinically shown to reducestress, and as a consequence, cortisol levels. A recent clinical study inWar veterans has shown EFT to be effective in reducing PostTraumatic Stress Dis-order (PTSD).9EFT comes in handy when you need quick relief from sudden stress oroverwhelming emotions. Just tap gently under the eye, collarbone, and under the arm.“EFT is a simple, powerful process that canprofoundly influence gene activity, health andbehaviour.”Bruce Lipton, Author of The Biology of Belief13

The Triple Point CalmerUnder eyeCollarboneUnder armWhen emotionallyhijacked, you can quicklycalm down by tappingunder the eye, justabove the collarboneand under the arm.Keep tapping until theemotional overwhelmreduces. To experience EFT more thoroughly, it is recommended that youeither attend an EFT training course with an experienced &internationally Certified Trainer or take sessions under a skilled andcertified EFT practitioner ft-training-course/eft-practitioner-training/] – both ofwhich vitality Living College would be happy to provide.“I frequently use EFT with my patientswith great results.”Eric Robbins, MD14

n Faster Therapeutic Results andHappier Clients with EFTEFT is found to give faster results compared with more traditionalmethods or when combined with counselling or psychotherapy, withincreased incomes and more fulfilment with happier clients. Whatoften happens when patients start therapy is that there is animpatience to see results. Most tools do not work quickly.According to Chanchal gupta, a Counsellor from Delhi,“It takes about 10-12 sessions for signs of improvement tobecome obvious.” This leads to clients becomingdejected after the first few sessions. She explains:“Clients becomedisheartened whenthey do not see immediately tangibleresults. They usually end up eitherleaving therapy or switchingtherapists. This is also demotivating forthe counsellor because the expectedresults have not been delivered.”“Number of sessionsneeded reduced from10-12 with counsellingto 2-3 with EFT.”But, EFT helps circumvent this problem:“When one introduces EFT with counselling, the client changes theirperspective on their issue much faster. This is because tapping clearsenergy blocks and causes cognitive shifts. This reduces the requirednumber of sessions to just 2-3!”Even Divya Srivastava, a Counsellor with Silver LiningWellness, has noticed that EFT enables faster results.“It helps me in my counseling practice to help clientsovercome trauma in a short span of time.”15

As the patient is able to recognise the positive changes during thesession, they are more likely to see the course of treatment through, which makes the therapist’s job much easier. Thus, the results fromEFT are not only rapid but also palpable within the session time itself, even for deep-rooted trauma. Emotional Wellness TherapistSrivastava elaborates, “The client is aware of the transformation, especially when the SUDs (Subjective Units of Distress) come down aftereven just 15 minutes of tapping.”What’s more, EFT works for a range of issues. Ms Srivastava furthersays, “EFT is a great tool when working with anxiety issues, fears, phobias, eating disorders, and PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). It iswonderful for healing inner children.”Singapore based Clinical Psychologist, Mahima guptaDidwania, confirms, “EFT combines cognitive, emotional, and somatic work to cut through layers of traumaeffectively and address the underlying patterns keepingproblems in place. For me as a counsellor, its fluidity, flexibility, ease, and tangible real-time experiential relief isvery helpful because it appeals to people across spectrums. It makes iteasier for me to equip them with a powerful tool for change andemotional release.”Father Leo, who has a busy psychotherapy practice, found that EFT reduced the number of sessionsneeded:“I've been practicing as a counsellor with many othertherapies. This is the first time I discovered a therapy thatis so effective in a short duration to bring out the coreissues of people. To help them to be in touch with themselves and todiscover the areas that they need to become aware to grow and to makea change in their life, to acquire this new freedom that this techniquegives to all of us.”16

The EFT treatment process is also helpful for childrenand helps them get rid of small upsets or even bigtraumas. Consultant Psychologist nalini g explains herexperience, “As EFT starts with Truth Tapping, the truthitself becomes non-threatening. It easily gets to the rootcause since it is a non-threatening process, hence theremedial intervention becomes easy.”School Counsellor Jigna gadia supports this view. Shebelieves, “EFT is quick and gives instant results, it must beinculcated in children at an early stage.”As a therapist, the tools one uses to direct clients canbe the difference between delivering tangible resultsor not. Most often, personal and professional problemsarise when individuals hold on to limiting emotions such as anger, fear, and hurt. These feelings can make it impossible for them toachieve optimum success in their desired personal and professionalfields. integrating a technique like EFT can not only cut down the timeto delivering results, it can also be very fulfilling for the therapist interms of higher profits and job satisfaction.Anushri Shah, Counselling Psychologist, agrees. "EFT isa great therapy in itself. It is quick as it works by balancingthe client's energy system. Negative emotions are releasedmuch faster and through a safe mechanism, whichprovides the client much relief in just a couple of sessions.I have been using it with my clients and all of them havefound it to be an effective technique; most of them see immediate results. It is highly recommended.”in summary, combining EFT with traditional therapy:lDelivers faster results for the therapist and patient – even within 15minutes the charge from a deep rooted trauma can reduce.17

lllllSaves the patient time and money as a result fewer sessions – forexample reducing the number of sessions from 12-10 to 2-3.Motivates the patient to finish the course of therapy – as they canexperience the tangible results within the session.increases monetary profits for the therapist – because of thequicker results the therapist has the option to charge more persession, see more patients and will naturally get more referrals.Enhances the quality of life for the therapist – the requirement forfewer sessions frees up time for the therapist to focus on otherareas of their life.Makes for happier patients, thus enhances job satisfaction – thereduction of sessions compounded with real time results meanspatients leave happy, proving to be rewarding for the therapist too.18

n Case Studies and Testimonials for EFTI healed my back pain in 17 minutes and nowhelp othersDr Rajesh CM healed his back paincompletely after attending EFT training andnow routinely helps his patients heal frombody pain with results in only a single sitting.“After attending EFT Training with Vitality LivingCollege I became even more powerful andeffective in my private practice. Thebest part is, in a single sitting my patients get more than 70% andsometimes 100% relief. In my own case before attending EFTTraining I used to have severe back pain and through attendingthe EFT Training session it has gone completely.”From having a phobia ofballoons to celebrating“I had a very bad fear of balloons.
