SRI GURU RAM DAS COLLEGE OF NURSING1)INTRODUCTIONABOUT THE COLLEGE OF NURSINGSri Guru Ram Das College of Nursing is one of the most modern equippedNursing College in Punjab. It is widely recognized as a centre of excellence in the fieldof nursing education with excellence in job training facilities in North Zone.The institution has a highly qualified and experienced Faculty. The college haswell-equipped laboratories of Fundamentals of Nursing, Nutrition, Maternal and ChildHealth, Community Health Nursing, Pre-Clinical lab, Computer Lab and ANP Lab withlatest equipment. Laboratories of Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology and Microbiology ofMedical College are also used for Nursing Students.There is a well-equipped separate Library for Nursing Students with all themodern Facilities. The Library has got more than 5500 books and 26 National &International Nursing Journals. In addition there is main Library in the College, which isequipped with a large number of professional books and journals.The college has well ventilated classrooms with modern facilities to enhanceacademic activities like lectures, Seminars etc. The Institute has good audio-visual aidswith LCD Projector, OHP Projector, models and charts for the use of faculty andstudents.The college possesses good and comfortable accommodation for students withall the facilities like, entertainment, boarding and round the clock security mess. Hostelrooms have attached bathrooms, geysers and safe drinking water is available forstudents.The School of Nursing was started in the year 2001 with intake of 40 studentsof GNM. Numbers of seats were increased to 60 and since then many batches havesuccessfully completed their training.The College of Nursing came into existence in 2008 with the intake of 50students of B.Sc. Nursing. College of Nursing has also started Post-Basic B.Sc.Nursing Course with an intake of 40 seats in 2010 and from 2011 M.Sc. Nursing wasalso added with an intake of 20 seats (4 in each specialty). The College is duly affiliatedwith Indian Nursing Council, Punjab Nurses Registration Council and Sri Guru Ram DasUniversity of Health Sciences, Sri Amritsar. Enhancement of B.Sc. Nursing seats from50 to 100 from session 2016 has been approved from all the authorities.Page 1

To achieve this goal, Sri Guru Ram Das Universityof Health Sciences decided to run Courses in General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM),B.Sc. Nursing, Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing and M. Sc. Nursing to impart theknowledge and skills most relevant to the health care needs of the community and thecountry as a whole.The International Council of Nurses states that the unique function of the nurse isto assist the individual, sick or well, in the performance of those activities contributing tohealth or its recovery (or to peaceful death) that patient would perform un-aided if hehas the necessary strength, will or knowledge and to do this in such a way as to helphim gain independence as rapidly as possible. Indian Nursing Council recognises thatbasic nursing education is a formally recognised programme of study providing a boardand sound foundation in the behavioural, life and nursing sciences for the generalpractice of nursing for a leadership role and for the post basic education in specialtiesfor advanced nursing practice. The faculty at College of Nursing believes that this basiccourse in nursing should prepare nurses for occupying first level positions in nursing inall kinds of health care settings & recognises that nursing is a profession which isinfluenced by advances in science and technology. It believes that skills in all aspectsof communities are also essential for learning and for the practice of nursing.It also recognises that the nature of nursing is such that a substantial portion oflearning of the students is acquired in the clinical field(s) of practice. It furtherrecognises the inter-dependence of or nursing allied professions and occupations inpromoting, maintaining and restoring health and prevention of diseases.Page 2

2)B.Sc. Nursing2.1.DURATION OF THE COURSEDuration of the Course shall be 4 year. (Four Years)2.2TOTAL NUMBER OF SEATSThere are in all 100 seats out of which 50 seats are reserved for the candidatesbelonging to Sikh Community from all over India, as per Punjab Government Notificationdated 3rd April 2001, and the remaining 50 seats are open to all communities of thePunjab Domicile only. Nursing only)(A)The competitive entrance test comprising objective type questions (MCQ) shallbe of 2 hours duration and shall be held at Amritsar on 08/07/2019 from 11:30hours to 13:30 hours.The written examination shall consist of one bookletcomprising of 4 parts and another booklet of one part, containing questions ikh History & Religion(Religion paper separate booklet)(For Sikh Minority Quota Candidates only)Total Questions202020208020Total Marks20202020(In one booklet) 8020Page 4

a)Each part shall comprise of 20 questions of 1 mark each. For each correctanswer, 1 mark will be awarded. There will be no negative marking.b)Use of Calculator and any other electronic device is not permitted in theexamination.c)There shall be no rechecking/revaluation of response sheets.d)Minimum qualifying marks for admission are 50%, i.e., 40 out of 80 marks.e)Paper on Sikh History & Religion (second question booklet) will be onlyqualifying in nature and the marks secured therein will not be counted for thepurpose of gradation in the merit list. The candidate must, however, secure atleast 07 out of 20 marks, (i.e. 35% marks in this paper), so as to be eligible forplacement in the merit list. In other words, a candidate who does not secure aminimum of 07 marks in this paper will be automatically eliminated fromcompetition, and his/her name will not be included in the merit list.2.4ELIGIBILITYThe eligibility and qualifications for admission to B.Sc. (Nursing) courseare as per provisions of this Prospectus based on relevant notification(s) ofPunjab Government issued from time to time, as per university rules and theregulations of Indian Nursing council.The selection shall be strictly as per merit of entrance test examination. Thecandidate should have passed 10 2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and EnglishSubjects as regular candidate from a recognized institution situated in the State ofPunjab only except for the exemptions wherever applicable and have passed in thesubjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English individually and must haveobtained a minimum of 45% marks (40% for SC/BC) taken together in PCB. English is acompulsory subject in 10 2 for being eligible.The Test will be open to a candidate who–i)has completed, or shall be completing, the age of 17 years by 31/12/2019.ii)has passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Englishindividually and has obtained a minimum of 45% marks taken together inPhysics, Chemistry, Biology & English at Senior Secondary Part II examination(class 12 of 10 2 stream), or an equivalent examination from the houldhavepassedthisexamination in the annual examination held in March/April 2019 or earlier.Those who are placed in compartment in the annual examination 2019 or whoPage 5

are already in compartment and fail to clear the same in the supplementaryexamination 2019 shall not be eligible).The schedule of the counselling and other details shall be published by theInstitution on its website.NOTES:1)A candidate will be considered Sikh/belonging to Sikh Community if shepractises the Sikh faith, and maintains Sikh appearance (f;Zyh ;o{g), i.e., shedoes not cut or trim hair and has the word “Kaur” with her name, has faith inthe Ten Sikh Gurus and Sri Guru Granth Sahib only,and does not oweallegiance to any other sect or religion.2)A female Sikh candidate the word “Kaur” with her name, may get it addedlegally (that is through an affidavit plus notice in a newspaper regardingchange of name) before submission of her application by the last date.3)Such a candidate can also appear in the Entrance Examination who hasappeared in the qualifying examination in the annual examination held inMarch/April 2019, but his result is awaited. However, his candidature will beconsidered only if she passes the qualifying examination in the subjects ofPhysics, Chemistry, Biology and English individually and obtains a minimum of45% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry & Biology as mentionedabove, before the date of first counselling.2.5SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONThe candidate shall submit her application on the prescribed form available inthis prospectus, so as to reach the Registrar, Sri Guru Ram Das University of HealthSciences, Mehta Road, PO Vallah, Sri Amritsar-143501, latest by 3:00 P.M. on01/07/2019 either by Regd. AD post or by hand.NOTE: Sending admission form through a courier service is absolutely notallowed. Sending the admission form through speed post should also beavoided as some delay is likely to occur, for which the candidate herselfshall be responsible.Page 6
