Adobe Photoshop pg. 2Working with TextAdding TextYou can work with text photoshop in much the same way you would in a traditionalpage layout application.Select the Type tool.Single Click in your image and type text.If you need work with wrapped text create a text box. With the Type tool selectedclick hold and drag to create a text box region. You can now type or use copy andpaste to add text.create a text box to add a text wrapTo modify font style, color.Highlight the text and modify color, size and font options in the Options toolbarunder the menu barOR in the character pallet.Use the check box in the Options toolbar toconfirm.Using the text tool creates a separate layer.Use the move tool , with the text layerselected, to move the text.

These styles are visible inthe layers palette and can be controlled just as if they were a typical layer. The mostpopular Layer Style is probably the Drop Shadow effect.Apply a Layer StyleChoose the layer you’d like to have a style and go Layer Layer Style and choosefrom the variety of styles available.-ORDouble click on the layer (to the right where there is no text) to open up the LayerStyles window.Modify the properties of a style1. Open the Layer Styles window through one of the above techniques2. Highlight the text of the style to view its properties3. Make your changes and hit OKWorking with Styles in the Layers PaletteOnce a style has been applied to a layer you can:1. Control the visibility of the style by togglingthe eyeball next the style in the Layers Palette2. Copy a style to another layer by dragging anddropping to the layer you want to inherit thestyle3. Delete a style by dragging it to the trash

From correcting the yellow tint of ahorrible snapshot to creating psychadelic, over-saturated vistas, color adjustments area powerful tool in realizing your image.Almost all of the color adjustments tools arelocated in the Image Adjustments Menu.Attention: Color adjustments will be applied tothe active layer only. If there is a selection areait will only be applied withing the selectionaarea.Color CorrectionAuto LevelsThis is a quick and easy way to fix colorproblems in sanpshots. Try it out, it may or maynot improve your image. If it doesn’t, you’llneed to consider another tool.LevelsSelect Image Adjustments Levelsand drag and move the bottom sliderin on both sides until they come rightunder an increase in the graph.VariationsSelect Image Adjustments Variationsand choose the image adjustment that suits you. You can adjust the Shadows,Midtones, Highlights, and Saturation of the image. The default is the midtones.(see image below)

Adobe Photoshop pg. 7Adjusting ColorsDesaturateTo convert a color image to greyscale select the layer to adjust and then go Image Adjustments DesaturateHue/SaturationChoose a layer or a selection area of a layer an go Image Adjustments Hue/Saturation. Grab a slider and have fun.Note: Make sure the Preview box is checked so you can view your changes beforeyou apply them.Colorize (Tint)To create a tint an image or create a sepia tone effect check the Colorize box in theHue/Saturation window.Drag the Hue slider to adjust the tint color.Drag the Saturation slider to adjust the amount of tint.Adjustment LayersMany of the these color adjustments are also available as Adjustment Layers. AnAdjustment Layer is a type of layer that applies its affect to all layers beneath it.To add an addjustment layer select its iconfrom the bottom of the Layerspallet and choose the type of Adjustment you’d like to apply.

Adobe Photoshop pg. 8FiltersFiltersFilters enable you to work with individual components of your graphic images andgraphically alter them with a myriad of effects. They are accessible via the Filtersmenu. There are many categories of filters you can use to your advantage, plus thereare many filters you can purchase as plugins.The Filter WindowAccessing one filter will allow to easilymove and preview through other filters.Sketch Filters (Filters Sketch)The Stamp Filter works well with animage that is a high contrast black andwhite or desaturated image. It provides a2-d “stamp” of an image, smoothing andremoving excess textural detail.

Adobe Photoshop pg. 9Using iPhotoCapturing from a Digital CameraAlmost all digital cameras mount a drive on your computer when plugged in (usuallyvia the USB port). On a Mac the drive appears on your desktop. You can access thisdrive by double-clicking on it as you would on the actual hard drive, or you can accessthe drive through any program, i.e. Photoshop.To capture photos from a digital camera (on a Mac using iPhoto):1. Plug your camera into your computer using the appropriate cord.2. Turn your camera on (you may need to change the camera mode to upload).3. Click the Applications icon on the Dock.4. Double-click on the iPhoto icon.5. Near the bottom of the new iPhoto window, click on Import.Note: Your camera name should appear on the lower left of the window. Example:6. Click the Import button on the bottom-right.Note: If you want to delete the images from the camera after they have beenimported, select the checkbox “Erase camera contents after transfer“ before youclick on “Import.” A window will appear to make sure you want to “Delete theOriginals.” This is recommended.7. After a few moments, all the photos on your camera will appear in the PhotoLibrary. At this point you can select and delete (hit “delete” on the keyboard)or rotate (click on thebutton).

Click “Export.”12. Navigate to your Documentsfolder and Save. Now your imagesare ready to open in Photoshop.To capture photos from a digital camera (on a PC):1. Right-click on the bottom-right icon on the Start Task Bar, choose Unplug/Disconnect/Quit.Note: If you don’t dismount the drive before you unplug or turn off your camerayou may run the risk of corrupting your image memory card.7. Turn off your camera.7. Unplug your camera from the computer.
