December 2017President’s Message from JaneBallinger.Greetings to All:Since our last Newsletter, somemembers have participated in theNov. 11th Fall workshop at the Livingston Center with Art Gilmorewho shared his talent, experienceand knowledge with the participants. It was a most rewardingexperience. The Nov. 12 meeting Demo waswith Jane Brennan who sharedher very varied interests, not onlyin watercolor on paper, but usingsome innovating ideas on canvas, and tiles. (Ithink I am speaking to myself.)It’s a time to be creative and toshare the Joy!Happy painting,JaneP. S. We still need some volunteers to help with hospitality. It isan important part of our sense ofcommunity and it would be sadto see it disappear. Perhaps youcould make the commitment bysharing the position as a “team”,if you cannot commit to everymeeting.Chatham Library ExhibitDates.Receiving:Thursday Feb 1, 2018Reception: Sunday, Feb 4,2018SAVE THE DATES.December 10 - Mick McAndrewsDemoFebruary 1, 2018 - Chatham ReceivingMarch 3, 2018 - Isabella PizannoWorkshopApril 21, 2018 - AWS Bus TripDecember DemonstratorMick McAndrewsMick's award winning paintings strive to capture the moodandatmosphereof asubject, combining the magic of watercolorwith reverence for the principles of design to create worksof sophisticated simplicity.“I am a passionate painterwho believes that time spentpainting is precious. My goalis to draw and paint every dayand I believe that the fastest way to artistic growth isthrough the activity of painting, especially in plein air.Outside in nature’s studio iswhere I find the greatest chal-lenge and the greatest reward.I am challenged to capturethe moment because light andits effect, reflection and castshadow, changes continuously. I am forced to simplify,to reduce the overwhelmingCont’d on next page.

.Cont’d.complexity of what’s in front ofme into only the most importantshapes and values. My nature is to be spontaneous,so working “loose and juicy”appeals to me. The magic of watercolor is found in the partnership between artist and medium,of finding a balance between theknowledge, technique and skillof the painter while leaving roomfor the magic that makes watercolor so distinctive.”He is a signature member of thePhiladelphia Watercolor Society(Crest Award), the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society (SylvanGrouse Guild) and the BaltimoreWatercolor Society.
