A longer bolt is used for TL-COOLand is supplied in the kit. Set the originalbolt aside. There is also a large washer at the bottom ofthe center hole. This washer is not requiredand can be left in the hole or set aside with thebolt. Label and save these parts so you willhave the option of returning to the factoryconfiguration.Step 2:Clean the top of the turret. The top ofthe turret needs to be clean, dry, andfree from oil.

Remove the 4” topcover and and 4” top cover gasket.Step 4:Center the TL-COOL on top of the turret. The output ports can be oriented at anyangle. The orientation shown in thephoto is most common. The rubber pad on the bottom of the TLCOOL helps the stator maintainorientation during rotation.Step 5:Insert the 1/2-13 x 3-1/2” stainlesssteel center bolt. This bolt is longerthan the original bolt so do not usethe original bolt with TL-COOL.No washer is required.

Looselyinstall the 1/4-NPT right-anglepush-to-connect fitting.Step 8:To tighten the right-angle fitting, brace the plumbing with aCrescent wrench or similar tooland tighten the 1/4-NPT right anglefitting firmly.

Thepreferred input port position is at theback. The phase adjusting plate allows the rotor to beadjusted /-45 degrees (as long as the inputport does not interfere with the Tommy bar). Ifneeded, an additional 90 degrees of phaseadjustment is available through additional screwholes located under the phase-adjusting plate.Step 13:When the phase is correct the rightangle input coupler should be at the backof the lathe and aligned with theassociated stator port. Some applications may call for locating theinput coupler on the left rather than the back, however, feeding from the back position seemsto result in the least amount of tool interference.Step 14:When satisfied with the alignment of theinput port with the output port, use a 1/8”Allen wrench to tighten the two (2) 10-32phase adjusting button head screws.

ThisTommy bar spring mechanism prevents thislifting motion from binding the Tommy bar.Step 16:Install the 11” clear hose. The hoseshould push all the way into the push-tofit couplings at both ends.To remove the hose, firmly press the fitting’scollar in while pulling out on the hose. If therelease collar proves difficult to press down, thesides of a 1/4” open-end wrench can be used topress the collar down while pulling out the hose.Step 17:A plastic “S-Clip” is included to anchorthe hose to the Tommy bar.

Gently bend the malleabletubing by hand or with appropriate tools.NOTE! The flare fitting will only slideonto straight tubing. Do not bend thetubing before the brass fitting is inplace.Step 19:Flare caps are provide for unusedstations but unused stations do not haveto be capped off. However, coolant willflow from an uncapped port when thatstation is selected.Flare fittings are ideal because, whentight, they hold the copper tube firmly. The TL-COOL flare fittings do not requirethread tape.NOTE:Haas TL series coolant pump pressure is 15 psi. The Haas TL-1 coolant pumpwill automatically de-activate wheneverthe tool turret is indexed so there will belittle or no input pressure present whenthe turret is indexed. For longest seal life never index theturret when the input port pressure ismore than 20 psi.

Cool Math from Cool Graphs Mark Howell Gonzaga College High School Washington, DC mhowell@gonzaga.org It has been more than 25 years since hand-held graphing calculators became available to students and teachers. Over that entire time, machines have been limited to graphing functions, or inequalities with boundaries that were graphs of functions.
