WA BRANCH INCORPORATEDpreviously RETURNED SAILORS’ SOLDIERS’ and AIRMEN’S IMPERIAL LEAGUE OF AUSTRALIA (1940-1965)previously RETURNED SAILORS’ AND SOLDIERS’ IMPERIAL LEAGUE OF AUSTRALIA (1916-1940)Formed in 1916, the Returned Sailors' and Soldiers' Imperial League of Australia changed its name in 1940 to Returned Sailors',Soldiers' and Airmen's Imperial League of Australia which changed its name in 1965 to Returned & Service League of Australia.The League evolved as a direct result of the camaraderie, concern and mateship shown by the "Diggers" for the welfare of theirmates during and after the 1914-1918 War. The League moved to the first ANZAC House, St George’s Terrace, in 1934.The new ANZAC House on St Georges Terrace was officially opened on the 14th November 1981, the result of negotiations withthe State Government, whereby the State Branch surrendered its property to the Crown, the land being required for the newLaw Courts.
