THE ANOINTINGSession 3: ServiceKey Scriptures:I Samuel 16NOTES:Opening:David learned quickly that anointing comesfrom worship and sacri ce. But as his life beganto change, he had to learn that service was asigni cant part of anointing. As Davidtransitioned from being a shepherd to playinghis harp for the king and serving his brothers, hehad to learn the value of serving others ratherthan being served.Watch the Session 3 VideoDiscussion Questions:1. Service requires our focus to shift fromourselves to others. How do we bene t frompushing aside our plans to focus ourattention on serving others?2. Anointing follows service. What are youdoing to position yourself for the anointingof God to rest upon your life?3. Session 4: DominionKey Scriptures:I Samuel 17NOTES:Opening:We have been talking about the anointing ofGod by studying the life of David. We havelearned that worship, sacri ce, and service arevital to the anointing bringing us to continualvictory—dominion.Watch the Session 4 VideoDiscussion Questions:1. God’s Spirit at work in us—the anointing—willght the giant. The anointing does not focuson the size of the problem; it focuses on thesize of the promise. How do we keep ourfocus on the promise without being fearful ofthe problem?2. The favor of God is a fear buster. Daviddeclared to Saul: I will ght this giant. Herefused to let fear dictate his destiny. Let’sdiscuss the favor of God when we place ourhope in Him. How does our faith a ect ouranointing?3. THE ANOINTINGSession 5: MercyKey Scriptures:I Samuel 24NOTES:Opening:Even after being anointed king, David had to runfor his life. When David had the opportunity tokill King Saul, he instead showed mercy. Thehigher the position, the greater the mercy Godrequires us to show. God wants to know if Hecan trust us with mercy and patience.Watch the Session 5 VideoDiscussion Questions:1. It could be said that God smiled becauseDavid did not return harm for harm. How doyou respond when others hurt you?2. Anytime God uses you with power and favor,you must learn to be merciful to others. Let’sdiscuss some ways we can extend mercy asmercy has been extended to us.3. It’s been said that patience is a virtue. Theminutes seem like days and the days seemlike months when you are ghting for yourlife, emotionally and spiritually. The questionfor each of us is how do we pass this test?Closing Remarks:If we stay the course and run with patience,there is a crown at the end of the race. We mustobtain mercy and patience for the race setbefore us. Remember, life is not a sprint; it is amarathon. THE ANOINTINGSession 6: PursuitKey Scriptures:I Samuel 30; II Samuel 12NOTES:Opening:There is something to be said about those whopursue God. They might not be perfect, but theyare passionate. They might have struggles, butthey strive for success. Let’s dive into the lastlesson of “The Anointing” and discover thebene t of pursing God.Watch the Session 6 VideoDiscussion Questions:1. David could have felt trapped physically,emotionally, and spiritually. He was corneredby the circumstances in his life, and yet hekept moving forward in God’s path for hislife. How can we refrain from developing amindset of entrapment and instead activelypursue God?2. Faith makes you move toward your reward.David asked God for direction. Let’s discussthe importance of seeking God for His willand direction as we pursuit Him.3.
