mc² 56INTERACTIONSUPER-PRECISE HD TOUCH-SCREENSThe mc² 56 features state-of-the-art capacity sensing 21.5” full HD touchscreens, providing mechanical robustness and super-precise control.A PERFECT SYMPHONY OFHARDWARE & SOFTWARE CONTROLSThe mc² 56’s unique design combines large screens with a low overbridge heightto provide a more ergonomic profile without compromising an engineer’s view. Theconsole’s super-precise 21.5” full HD touch-screens work hand-in-hand with the touchsensitive color-illuminated rotary encoders. An equalizer window will automaticallypop-up when touching the equalizer encoders, and after adjusting the parameters theauto-close function will close the window without additional user action to restore thefull overview. Close positioning of the TFTs and encoders provides a constant and clearTOUCH-SENSITIVE COLOR-CODED ENCODERSoverview of parameters and graphs.06 07

mc² 56INTERACTIONEXTENDED FREE CONTROLSThe new mc² 56’s extended free control section gives direct access to four parametersin addition to gain control. The result: A perfect balance between de-centralized andcentralized control workflows. The console allows both global and individual parameterassignments to the free controls of each channel strip.MULTI-USER OPERATIONIn multi-user mode, 64 rotary encoders in each 16-fader bay givedirect access to all important parameters to create an additionalcentral control panel and allow for independent operation andmonitoring of a second engineer.

mc² 56FEATURESLIVEVIEW VIDEO LABELSIn addition to standard channel labeling via channel numbers, individual text labels and static pictures or icons, the mc² 56 inheritedthe mc² 96’s LiveView video thumbnails for even more intuitiveCOLOR CODINGCUSTOMIZABLE FADER USER BUTTONSchannel identification. Simply touch a fader and the LiveView thumbnail changes to full-screen mode, providing a more detailed viewof that channel’s video source such as a camera or a replay machine.IP EASY – SIMPLE AS ANALOGBeing an IP-native device based on A line UHD Core, the mc² 56 includesLawo’s IP Easy functionality which makes configuring IP setups assimple as analog. The system automatically detects devices and makesINPUT METERINGthem available to the console at the push of a button. Furthermore theconsole’s device management includes all needed security features suchas access control and quarantining of unknown devices.10 11

mc² 56TECHNICAL DESIGNLOW-NOISE DESIGNThe console is optimized for low power consumption, whichallows the use of inaudible, low-spinning fans for cooling. This isespecially important in environments such as quiet control rooms,COMPREHENSIVE LOCAL I/Owhere fan noise is obtrusive. The mc² 56’s comprehensive local I/O features 16 Lawo-gradeMic/Line inputs, 16 Line outputs, 8 AES3 inputs and outputs,8 GPIOs plus a local MADI port (SFP).DSCA Lawo’s mc² consoles are enabled with DSCA Dynamic-Surfaceto-Core Allocation. This unique feature allows the dynamicallocation of multiple mixing surfaces to any available processingcores when used in an IP-based LAN/WAN environment. Asa result, DSP resources can be pooled and flexibly allocatedREDUNDANT LOCAL I/O CONNECTIVITYThe console’s local I/O provides two IP network interfaces for redundantto specific productions. DSCA allows for a higher availabilityof processing power throughout the network, with greaterredundancy and more efficient resource utilization that can takeyour production workflows to the next level.connection of the surface’s local I/O to the A UHD Core following ST2022-7hitless merge principles of stream and port redundancy.12 13

mc² 56CENTRAL CONTROL SECTIONMAKE IT YOUR WAY – USER PANELSThe mc² 56’s clearly structured central control section delivers an optimal workflow withmaximum overview. In addition, the console’s overbridge contains two slots for individualuser panels, which can be filled with a choice of five options: additional 40 buttons, aTC automation panel, a dedicated Reveal Fader panel, a RTW TM7 Goniometer or a RTWTM9 Goniometer (occupying both slots) – the choice is yours.INTUITIVE MONITORINGThe monitoring section of the central GUI hasbeen redesigned for easier access, enhancedflexibility and easy adaptation to userrequirements.PARALLEL COMPRESSIONParallel compression, also known as New York compression, isa dynamic range compression technique achieved by blendinga dry signal with a compressed version of the same signal.Rather than bringing down the highest peaks for the purposeof dynamic range reduction, it reduces the dynamic range bybringing up the softest sounds, which results in adding audibleAUDIO-FOLLOW-VIDEOdetail. Parallel compression can be applied in every channel, group, aux and sum of the mc² 56.Automated transitions and the perfect coupling of image andIMMERSIVE BY NATUREsound – all of this is provided by the mc² 56’s Audio-follow-Videofunction. Each camera tally is assigned to an event, which canbe selected in one or more channels with a total of 128 availableReflecting today’s requirements for 3D / immersive audioevents. The Rise-Time, On-Time, Hold-Time, Max-Time and Fall-productions, the mc² 56 provides not only superb toolsTime parameters can be used to set the processing envelope, for surround sound mixing, but also a dedicated elevationcreating amazingly smooth and natural sounding transitions fromcontroller as standard.camera to camera.16 17

mc² 56FEATURESREMOTE DESKTOPLawo’s integrated Remote Desktop function allows seamless integration into theAUTOMATED MIXING ASSISTANTSThe mc² 56’s automated mixing capabilities include an Automixfunction that can automatically adjust the levels of active andinactive microphones, while maintaining a constant, naturalsounding ambient level. This feature provides unique functionalityconsole’s user interface of multiple external PCs running third-party solutions. Withthe switch of a button, the external PC and its software applications are displayedin the console’s screen while the console’s keyboard, touchpad and touchscreenprovide control. The seamless integration of external recording systems, effectengines, or other user interfaces, means less equipment – and the engineer hascontrol over the complete set-up, conveniently from a single, central position.especially in live productions with multiple presenters orperformers. Automix can be used for any signals, from mono andstereo to multiple surround channels to minimize backgroundnoise and crosstalk with reduced sound coloration. Truncatedsentences and late fade-ins are things of the past, enabling thesound engineer to focus on overall balance and sound quality. The console also features a Downmix function and Lawo’s highlyacclaimed AMBIT Upmix function, which guarantees perfectconversion of stereo signals into amazingly authentic surroundsound using very few parameters. Last but not least, the mc² 56 isset for KICK 2.0, Lawo’s automated close-ball mixing solution forsports such as football, hockey or basketball.18 19

mc² 56OVERBRIDGEINTEGRATED LOUDNESS METERINGOriginally requested for broadcast applications, Lawo has developedbuilt-in loudness metering into a tool that is useful also in live, theater and house of worship applications. The feature provides fullloudness control in accordance with ITU 1770 (EBU/R128 or ATSC/A85) and features peak and loudness metering either separately or incombination. ln addition to the sums, Lawo Loudness Metering canalso measure individual channels, which allows fast and convenient“visual” mixing for things like background singers or multiplemicrophone setups for brass sections, strings and choirs.CUSTOMIZABLE OVERBRIDGE VIEWSThe console’s overbridge can be adapted to your requirements byadjusting the channel display accordingly – just choose and displaythose parameters that are important and hide any unnecessary ordistracting elements. The metering shows all fader levels permanentlyon the HD display. ln addition, multi-row metering allows forpermanent metering of signals from other layers or banks.20 21
