Lindley Library ExhibitionWorth A Thousand Words: Gold Standard Botanical ArtThursday 5th July – Friday 17th August 2018Free admission(Partial view) Dahlia 'Arabian Night' by Carolyn Jenkins, 2011Presenting a selection of recent acquisitions, this exhibition will feature some of the finest botanicalartworks in the RHS Lindley Collections. In recent times there has been a resurgent interest in thisdiscipline with extremely talented artists emerging across the globe. The very best examples of botanicalart today combine very close observation with artistic flair to create informative, scientifically accurate andbeautiful pictures. The exhibition will explore the ways in which contemporary artists continue to raisestandards and push the boundaries of this discipline. Show Installations & Feature ExhibitsBonsai Garden by Mă-Kè Bonsai: Bonsai expert and nursery owner Mark D’Cruz will create a stunningdisplay of Bonsai specimens celebrating this beautiful Japanese art form. He will bring a specially curatedcollection of small and large Bonsai, offering inspiration to beginners and experts alike. Mark is a wellknown expert and stocks hundreds of bonsai at Mă-Kè Bonsai Nursery and Studio, based in Richmond. Hewill be on hand to talk about the trees on display and provide advice on training and care for your own tree.For more information please visit www.makebonsai.com. Lawrence HallNATURALIUM by Rob Munday in association with The Little Black Gallery: A special exhibition ofphotographic light sculptures by Rob Munday from his NATURALIUM series featuring a Slipper Orchid,Gloriosa Lilly, Passion Flower, White Egret Flower, Bearded Iris, and Moth Orchid. Munday is the world’sleading holographic artist. He has created many unique holographic works and photographic lightsculptures which can be found in collections and galleries throughout the world. His portrait commissionsinclude The Queen, Karl Lagerfeld, Angelina Jolie and Valentino. Lawrence HallFantasy Pollination by Zita Elze: RHS London Shows Floral Artist in Residence, Zita Elze, will bring theworld of pollination inside with a stunning display of seasonal blooms. The installation is inspired by thesong ‘Let’s do it’ by Cole Porter, and will feature thousands of origami birds, bees and butterflies. These willcombine with a summer palette of yellow blooms all set in a magical garden story, with areas dressed for apicnic and relaxation, offering inspirational ideas for all. Lawrence HallGarden Spectacle by Students at Chelsea College of Art: An exhibit of conceptual flower show designscreated by BA Interior and Spatial Design students in collaboration with RHS London Shows. Studentsworked to a brief designing an Urban Garden Show, situated in the Lindley Hall, aimed at a youngeraudience, free from the constraints of budget, scale and technology. They were encouraged to push theboundaries of the space and be experimental in their approach. On display will be the designs selected bythe London Shows Team, chosen for creativity and success at meeting the brief. Lawrence HallBotanical Art Worldwide Slideshow World Tour: Botanical Art Worldwide is a ground breakingcollaboration between botanical artists, organizations, and institutions worldwide. 25 countries have joinedforces to create a digital slideshow of botanical artworks from around the world. Each participating countryprovides up to forty works, these are then compiled together to create the exhibit. This worldwide exhibitionrepresents artists and plants of six continents, with artworks showing unique habitats and plants that arecommon, rare, or threatened. For more information please eLive Portrait Painting of Model Wearing a Flower Crown by Artist Ann Witheridge, London Fine ArtStudios: Ann founded London Fine Art Studios 20 years ago and is primarily an artist and teacher, shealso gives talks and contributes to articles. Ann will be doing a live portrait painting of a model who will beadorned with a beautiful flower crown created by Freddie’s Flowers. Ann will be talking on ‘The History ofFlowers in Art’ after the live demonstration, see Talks Programme for full details.Taking place on Wednesday, 11am - 12pm, in the Lindley HallIwagumi Aquascape by George Farmer Studios: Aquascaping expert George Farmer will be exhibiting aJapanese style of aquascape called Iwagumi. Aquascaping is the art of creating an underwater landscapeusing a mix of aquatic plants, hard materials and sometimes aquatic animals. Design inspiration can comefrom both underwater locations as well as natural scenes such as mountains, jungles, deserts andwaterfalls. The Iwagumi style was developed around 30 years ago by famous aquarist Takashi Amano.11

Iwagumi aquascapes represent not just a minimalist layout, but also Japanese culture, spirituality and lovefor beauty and simplicity.George Farmer Studios will be creating a larger display of aquascapes that will feature at the RHS UrbanGarden Show October 26 - 28.For more information on George Farmer Studios please uascaperFor more information on the RHS Urban Garden Show 2018 please /urban-garden-show20182018 RHS Photographic Competition sponsored by the Sunday Times: The launch of the 2018 RHSPhotographic Competition will be taking place at the show, and will feature the winning images from the 9competition categories:1) Celebrating Gardens: photographing the very best of gardens and celebrating the essence ofbeing in a garden. Photographs include spectacular views of private and public gardens, flowerportraits and people enjoying the space around them.2) Welcoming Garden Wildlife: beautiful photographs of insects, birds and creatures found wild in thegarden or garden surroundings.3) Pure Plants: as the name suggests the focus is plants, be it an individual bloom, a group of trees orleaf details. The plants can be of any kind growing happily in their location or in the naturalenvironment.4) Abstract: imagination, originality and creativity is key, with images including unusual plant closeups and abstract views of plants and gardens. Image manipulation and graphic approaches are alsoallowed.5) Urban Gardening: this category focuses on all types of gardening that can be undertaken in a cityor town. Supporting the RHS Greening Grey Britain campaign which aims to enrich everyone’s livesthrough plants and make the UK a greener and more beautiful place.6) Social Media: any image submitted via RHS Twitter, Instagram or Facebook accounts using thehashtag #RHSphotocomp. The images must be related to anything horticultural, gardening orwildlife.7) Under 18s (age 11-17): photographs depicting something plant, garden or wildlife related thatinterest the photographer.8) Under 11s: photographs depicting something plant, garden or wildlife related that interest thephotographer.9) Portfolio: a compilation of six images in a series based on a common theme or style.
