TTC JAYCE’S NAVY INTERSTELLARPAGE 2Letter From the EditorDear Jayce Navy Interstellar Readers,I rarely write directly to you, because usually we’re about the tech and starships hereat Jayce’s, but this time I have something I want to talk directly to you about. Last issue, we covered leaked documentation about the Perseus-class Escort, and the revealof members of Starfleet Command trying to hide its status as a warship. Thanks to your efforts, Starfleet, and indeed the Federation itself, took notice. Proteststook place on multiple worlds, including in front of Starfleet HQ on Earth. Because ofyour actions, we forced our government to take action in preventing the militarization ofStarfleet. While we love military technology here at Jayce’s, we also believe it has no place inStarfleet Command. SF is an organization dedicated to peaceful exploration and cooperative diplomacy. The creation of warships in secret was a violation of the highestdegree, and we thank you for support.I would also like to thank our intrepid reporters T’Mek and Jason Hsu for their hardwork on that piece. And I would like to thank their sources inside Starfleet who blew thelid off this topic, at their own risk. The Federation owes you a debt of gratitude. We do have a follow-up piece on the Perseus in this quarter’s issue, however, the bigtopic is Starfleet’s Fleet-wide Status Report briefing which covered much ground on theRanger and Constitution-class starships. So keep calm, and keep on reading, because this issue of Jayce’s is our biggest yet!Yours truly,Derrick JayceEditor-in-Chief & Founder, Jayce’s Navy InterstellarFederation News NetworkSponsored Content

Sakura was oneof the first Ranger-Classvessels to roll off the line.As part of Starfleet Command’s Fleet Status updateon Stardate 6398.4, Starfleet Command announcedthat lessons learned as part of the experimental starship program has declared the Ranger-class RapidResponse Combat Cruiser as Starfleet’s most versatilevessel with the exception of the legendary Constitutionclass. The Ranger-class, developed as an advancedemergency response vessel, found itself in a variety ofroles in the fleet including scientific research, diplomaticfunctions, and engineering experimentation.“The Ranger was an unexpected success,” said Commodore Paris. “We intended them to serve as back upflagships or for evacuation of Starbases in the case ofDesigners felt the lack of the “neck” fromthe Constitution series eliminated a potential vulnerabie point.an emergency situation, and yet, they’ve proven to bereliable workhorses for the fleet.”The report cited the work of the U.S.S. Revere insolving a diplomatic scuffle between the Deltans andthe Ferasans, the U.S.S. Halsey in its long-term exploration of Murasaki 312, and the U.S.S. Sakura and hercapture of the rogue Captain Jacob McNeil after he attacked several Klingon and Federation freighters alongthe neutral zone.“The brave men and women who crew these vesselshave done the Federation proud,” added Paris. “It’s easyto lose yourself out there, in the cold expanse of space, but the crews of our Ranger-class vessels seemed tofind themselves instead. Their performance has beenexemplary. Well done.”The report cited the heavy armament of the Rangeras being highly successful in the field, the compactshape of the hull being more versatile, and the increased automation of the design as being instrumentalin its success. However, the report also found severalissues with the class’s design. Included in these issueswas the mounting of the nacelles. According to Starfleetrecords, the warp field was constantly destabilized bythe presence of the weapons pod despite the pod beinga major part of the ship’s upgraded weapons design.“It was a bad decision to mount it between two warpnacelles,” said Admiral Jeffries. “It interrupted the warpArtist Solek of Vulcan created this workto commemorate the first mission undertaken by a Ranger-Class vessel.energy transfer between the Nacelles and resulted in amore sluggish ship for its power.”The older style impulse pylons were also criticized. The KT-0514 Impulse Drives were based upon earlierdrives used on vessels such as the famed Einstein-classsuch as the U.S.S. Kelvin. During the Ranger’s development, the KT-0514 was used as its increased lengthcould also be used as a conduit for Warp Plasma.“It was a very disjointed plan,” Jeffries added to thereport. “It would have been better to use the A47Combat Impulse Engines that were installed on theConstitution-class.”The secondary hull of the Ranger was also criticizedin the report, as the compartmentalized and heavilyautomated class resulted in large amounts of unusedspace. The report cited that on 14 of the 17 Rangerclass vessels in service, large swaths of the secondaryhull had been converted for diplomatic or “personal” useonboard vessel, despite the presence of main engineering, deflector control, and the ship’s shuttlebay.“The Ranger’s secondary hull was more often beingused for work of a, uh, personal nature rather than official business we learned,” sheepishly admitted Commodore Paris. “Likely, the Ranger’s successor will nothave a secondary hull, and use our newly developedintegrated deflector plating as to not add unnecessaryequipment.”However, whatever flaws the Ranger-class had possessed, most agreed that its biggest failure was its ex-perimental forward mounted Dual Pulse Cannons. TheFleet Status Update Report noted that the power outputof these cannons was well below expectations, and mayhave contributed to the loss of the class’ prototype, theU.S.S. Ranger at the recent Battle of Caleb IV.“As much as Caleb IV was a disaster for Starfleet, itwas notable that it was the most heavily armed ship atthat battle that was lost first,” admitted Paris. “Sensordata brought back by U.S.S. Yorktown indicated that theRanger’s phaser cannons were not able to do notabledamage to the attacking Klingon battlecruisers. That isnot to say we learned nothing from the experiment.”Paris went on to explain that the Starfleet Corps ofEngineers, while discouraged by future application ofcannon style weaponry on starships, did find a way tocreate a pulse-style phaser beam array based on thetechnology. This code-named “Mega Phaser” couldfind itself put to use in the upcoming Constitution RefitProject.“The Ranger taught us many things,” concluded Paris.“I think she’ll go down in Starfleet history as importantlyas the Constitution-class has, maybe not for her missions, but for what she did for our technology. To thecrews and ships of the Ranger-class, we give you ourthanks.”While the Ranger-class is not planned to be decommissioned for another ten years, Starfleet Commandhas decided to declassify the data on the vessels.T’Mek and Jason Hsu contributed to this report.

Themainstay of the Hegemony fleet is the Ddraig Cruiser. The Ddraig has equivalentarmament to Starfleet light cruisers, but lacks maneuverability.New Romulan ShipWhile the Romulan Star-Empirecontinues to utilize the D-7 classcruiser obtained during thebrief alliance with the KlingonEmpire, it has clearly begun todevelop new cruiser-type designs based on the iconic T’LissWarbird (right). Starfleet Intelligence sources have declined tocomment on whether they havediscovered the name of the newclass (above, left). Defense analysts have dubbed it the FoxtrotClass Heavy Warbird.Gorn Kulshedra BattlecruiserThe largest ship in the Gorn arsenal, the Kulshedra is capable of quicklyresponding to emergencies in anypart of the Hegemony, owing to it’shigh top speed of Warp 9.1. However, only three Kulshedras are knownto have been contructed.Unknown Alien RaceGorn Makar FrigateA maneuverable attack vessel, the Makar frigate rarely operates independently, due to it’s lack of heavy armor. Packs of Makar frigates havebeen known to bring down larger vessels with minimal losses.Starfleet command has released sketches exclusively to Jayce’s Navy Interstellarshowing frigate-type (left) and cruiser-type (above) vessels of a previously unknownalien race that have recently been sighted in or near Federation space. The specifications and capabilities of these vessels are unknown at this time. Anyone whoencounters one of these ships should contact Starfleet immediately.PAGE 8

PAGE 9TTC JAYCE’S NAVY INTERSTELLARIN MEMORIAMTo the crews of the U.S.S. Pioneer and the U.S.S. Ranger, we give oursolemn respects. May you rest peacefully among the stars, having givenyour lives in the best traditions of Starfleet and the United Federationof Planets. At Caleb IV both vessels were lost in the line of duty. The U.S.S. Ranger was lost when the Klingon armada caught the fleet in an ambush. The Ranger’s last act was the take a torpedo barrage for the U.S.S.Yorktown, saving over 400 lives. The U.S.S. Pioneer performed an even greater sacrifice. With a valorand honor, the crew of the Pioneer distracted the Klingon Fleet andallowed the survivors to flee and warn Starfleet Command of the Klingons’ new cloaking technology. The Captain of the Pioneer was a closefriend of mine, my old XO when I was in command of that ship. Yougave them hell, and saved our lives. Yours is a debt I can never repay. On behalf of the United Federation of Planets, I thank the crews ofboth ships. Your sacrifice will not be forgotten.Admiral Issac GarrettU.S.S. Yorktown
