MINDFULNESS AND SELF COMPASSIONBETWEEN PSYCHOEDUCATION AND CLINICAL PRACTICEMindfulness and self compassion practices stemfrom the Buddhist tradition and over the last thirtyyears have developed in many different settingsin Western society: from schools to hospitals, from therapeutic communities to prisons, fromthe corporate world to professional trainingand psychotherapy in the form of mindfulnessbased stress reduction programs.Thousands of scientific publications testify theeffectiveness of mindfulness-based and selfcompassion interventions and this evidence, combined with the short duration and relativelylow cost of group interventions, has led to aprogressive expansion of intervention modelsthat have been adapted to different populations.Interventions promoting the well-being of socialworkers and health care professionals, teachersand educators, caregivers and parents andclinical interventions for patients suffering froma wide range of conditions - stress, addictions,/INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE27-28 November 2021chronic pain, depression, anxiety, sleepdisorders, support for cancer patients, patientswith heart disease, eating disorders, respiratoryproblems and post-traumatic stress disorder –are now well established. All have experiencedenormous benefits (Hilton L.G. et al., 2019).In this pandemic year, more and more peoplehave turned to stress reduction interventions. But mindfulness-based and self compassioninterventions are much more than that and withthis international convention we wish to take amoment to discuss and assess the clinical andresearch framework and compare the Italianexperience with international practices inorder to answer the question: “What does thisparticular moment of learning require from us?”The conference will alternate lectures byinternational guests with moments ofmindfulness practice and will encouragediscussion, inquiry and sharing in small groups.
