SCREEN PRODUCERS AUSTRALIA AWARDS NOMINATION KIT1.2ABOUT THE SPA AWARDSThe SPA Awards highlight industry excellence and are the only awards voted solely byproduction businesses whose work drives the industry.They celebrate great Australian screen productions; honour the skill, accomplishment, andimagination of its Production Businesses; aim to increase awareness of the role producersplay in creating Australian screen stories; and spotlight the importance of international tradeto screen businesses.The Awards structure and eligibility will be different this year.Due to the impacts COVID-19 had on the production sector, no awards were held in2019/20, these awards will cover an extended period of eligibility to capture thoseproductions.The SPA Awards are peer voted and aim to capture the full scope of screen production andproducers across Australia.4

SCREEN PRODUCERS AUSTRALIA AWARDS NOMINATION KITSECTION 22.1THE NOMINATION PROCESSWe know it’s important that your title stands out to the judging community of SPA members, sowe’ve put together a handy guide on how to create the perfect nomination.2.2PRODUCTION AWARDS ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Nominations can only be submitted and awards received by current 2021/2022 financialProducer Members except for the Short Film production of the Year, Online Production ofthe Year, and Games & Interactive Production of the Year categories that are open tocurrent Associate Members who may not have sufficient producer credits to qualify forProducer Membership.o For a summary of memberships please refer to our website.6 If the production has co-production partners, only financial members of SPA will beofficially recognised in the awards. To view the SPA guidelines and definitions for receiving a full producer credit for featurefilm, television drama, and factual/documentary productions, refer ers-australia-producer-accreditationscheme/ Only the member production business responsible for the title may nominate in itscategory. The title must not have been previously submitted into the Awards. The title must have been first released to its audience between01 September 2019 and 30 June 2021. SCREEN PRODUCERS AUSTRALIA AWARDS NOMINATION KITSECTION 3VOTING3.1STAGE ONE: SELECTION OF FINALISTSPRODUCTION AWARDSFinalists are determined by a diverse cohort from the Screen Producers Australia membershipwho select their preferences in each category of the Production Awards.Selection is based on concept (is the story unique/coherent/engaging); execution (how well has itbeen implemented in its medium); creativity; and overall excellence.These preferences are then quantified based on the number of votes per nominated title to makeup the finalist titles for each category.3.2STAGE TWO: SELECTION OF WINNERSPRODUCTION AWARDSWinners are determined by the Screen Producers Australia full producer level membership whoselect their preferences from the finalist pool in each category of the Production Awards.Each current financial membership is entitled to one single vote in each category.Only the Primary Contact of the Member business as recorded by SPA may vote in the Awards.Voting members are encouraged to view the submission materials made available.This is a combination of the title’s trailer, synopsis, and by viewing the material wherever it maybe publicly available.Selection is based on concept (is the story unique/coherent/engaging); execution (how well has itbeen implemented in its medium); creativity; and overall excellence.The production receiving the highest number of votes in its category is declared the awardrecipient. In the event of a tie, a single winner may be selected by Screen Producers Australia’sCouncil representatives.BUSINESS AND INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTION AWARDSMembers of Screen Producers Australia’s Council judge nominations independently anddetermine award recipients of the Business and Individual Contribution Awards.Selection is based on how well the business or individual has displayed excellence andsignificant contribution in their category.Please note there is no opportunity to provide feedback on the decision-making process.9

SCREEN PRODUCERS AUSTRALIA AWARDS NOMINATION KITSECTION 5FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSHow long does it take to submit a nomination?Depending on the detail of your written answers, completing the nomination formcan take around sixty minutes to two hours to complete, not including time togather and submit supporting materials for your nomination.You can save your nomination and return to your form at a later time.We recommend completing it as soon as possible though to ensure you do not missthe deadline.Can I nominate someone else?Only the business with a current SPA membership may nominate its own title.If the title is a co-production with another SPA member, it is recommended you speak with theco-producers and coordinate one entry.You may nominate others for the Lifetime Achievement and Service & Facilities Business of theYear award.Can I nominate my project in multiple categories?You should enter your title only in the most appropriate category for its genre with exception ofthe Screen Export and Innovative Production categories if you can demonstrate eligibility in thosefields.Where do I nominate my title, business, or individual contribution?You can nominate online through the following link:screenproducers.awardsplatform.comCan I get a discount for multiple entries?Yes! We cap entry price at four (4). If nominating more than four titles, you will only pay for four.At the end of the submission process, before payment, you will have the opportunity to nominateadditional titles. Do this for as many titles as you wish.
