(EMI), an educational company. In September1998, EMI changed its name to Quest Education Corp. AIC along withanother school, Hamilton College, were purchased by Quest EducationCorp. in November 1998, and in April 2000, AIC changed its name toQuest College. Quest Education Corp. was purchased in July 2000 byKaplan, Inc. In November 2000, the name Quest College was changed toKaplan College. In 2004, Kaplan College expanded its academic offeringsto include master’s-level programs and became Kaplan University.Hagerstown Business College, located in Hagerstown, Maryland,opened a campus in Frederick, Maryland, in early 2004. The campusoffers medical assistant and dental assistant programs. In July 2007,Hagerstown Business College changed its name to Kaplan College. In2009, the Hagerstown and Frederick campuses became branch campusesof Kaplan University.Hamilton College was originally established in Mason City, Iowa, in 1900as a proprietary career college and has the distinction of being the oldestcontinuously operating career college in the state of Iowa specializing inbusiness education.In 1980, Hamilton opened a campus in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to allowmore students to be part of the Hamilton educational experience. In1988, the Des Moines, Iowa, campus of Hamilton College was establishedto create a triad of campuses to better accommodate the entire state.Hamilton College designated the Cedar Falls, Iowa, campus as its fourthbranch campus in 2000. Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska, were added asbranch campuses in early 2004. The Council Bluff s, Iowa, campus wasadded as the seventh branch campus of Hamilton College in 2004. Eachresidential campus has close ties within its community and surroundingcommunities, resulting in graduates employed throughout the state. In2007, the seven Hamilton College campuses became branch campuses ofKaplan University.In 1961, Andover Institute was established in Andover, Massachusetts.In 1967, the Andover Institute of Business was established in Portland,Maine. Located in the Congress Square Building on High Street, theInstitute enrolled approximately 40students. During the next threeyears, the Institute grew and in 1970 was accredited by the AccreditingCommission of the Association of Independent Colleges and Schools.In 1973, the Andover Institute of Business was acquired by EducationalAssociates, Inc., a Maine company. One year later, the name was changedto Andover Institute. The Institute outgrew its Congress Street locationby the spring of 1975 and relocated to 335 Forest Avenue, Portland. InMarch 1976, the Institute received associate’s-degree granting privilegesfrom the 107th Legislature of the State of Maine.10In September 1977, the State Board of Education granted AndoverInstitute approval to change its name to Andover College. AndoverCollege received accreditation as a Junior College of Business in April1980 by the Association of Independent Colleges and Schools. In 1983,to accommodate its continued growth, Andover College consolidatedoperations at 901 Washington Avenue, Portland.Andover College became the first school of its kind in Maine to receiveaccreditation from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges(NEASC) Commission on Technical and Career Institutions in 1998.In 1999, Andover College acquired the assets of Casco Bay College andintroduced several new programs. Through this acquisition, AndoverCollege inherited the long history of Casco Bay College, dating as farback as the Portland Business College, established in the 1800s. In 2003,Andover College added an instructional site in Lewiston, Maine. TheLewiston site enrolled its first class in March 2004.In January 2005, the College was purchased by Kaplan Higher EducationCorporation. Kaplan Higher Education Corporation is a subsidiaryof Kaplan, Inc., a leading education and career services company. ThePortland campus relocated to its current facility, located at 265 WesternAvenue in South Portland, in early 2008. In October 2006, AndoverCollege was granted regional accreditation under NEASC’s Commissionon Institutions of Higher Education. In 2010, both the Lewiston andSouth Portland campuses became branch campuses of Kaplan University.Concord Law School was founded in 1998 as the nation’s first whollyonline law school and one of Kaplan’s first efforts in the area of highereducation. Concord was accredited by the Distance Education andTraining Council (DETC, www.detc.org) before it formally merged withKaplan University. Concord is a member of the International Associationof Law Schools (www.ialsnet.org), and is an institutional member ofthe Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA, www.chea.org). Concord is registered as a distance learning law school with theCalifornia Committee of Bar Examiners (www.calbar.ca.gov). Concord’sJuris Doctor (JD) graduates meet the legal education requirementsof the Committee of Bar Examiners, State Bar of California, and, ifother regulatory requirements are satisfied, may sit for the CaliforniaBar Examination. Concord also awards an Executive Juris DoctorSM(EJDSM) degree, a professional law degree that offers individualsinterested in an education in law the chance to take courses withoutbecoming a licensed lawyer. The EJD is designed to offer studentsmore flexibility in their studies, as the degree is not aligned with therequirements to sit for the California Bar Exam. Concord also hasauthority to award the Master of Laws (LLM) degree.The addition of the Indiana Commission on Proprietary Education toKaplan University’s Accrediting Agencies, Approvals, and Memberships iseffective August 5, 2009; the addition of the Arkansas Higher EducationCoordinating Board is effective November 11, 2009; the addition of theTennessee Higher Education Commission, the Wisconsin EducationalApproval Board, and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Boardis effective January 6, 2010; changes to the statement of accreditation forthe Associate of Applied Science in Health Information Technology andthe Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management are effectiveFebruary 22, 2010; the addition of the Washington Higher EducationCoordinating Board is effective April 21, 2010; the additions of the stateof Maine legislature and Institute of Certified Travel Agents are effectiveMay 26, 2010:
