Email: Qqppdujinan@outlook.com*ABSTRACT2D animation, after a long time of development, technological innovation, and animation model changes, graduallybuilt the animation industry chain. The commercial value of 2D animation was improved well, and animation as akind of cultural communication form for young and old, has been formed in multinational cultural characteristics. This time under the influence of 2D animation, 3D animation was born. In response to the needs of the times andpeople's sensory stimulation needs, Three-Dimensional technology creates a more three-dimensional effect. However,at the same time, to improve the three-dimensional picture, the relative cost and time consumption are same, whetherit is two-dimensional animation design or three-dimensional animation design. Their respective advantages anddisadvantages have a long way to go in the future. Keywords: 2D animation, 3D animation, Design, Practicality1. INTRODUCTION2D animation has a history of development, and itsdesign is its own system. The design of 3D animation isbased on 2D mode, with more detailed andsophisticated processing results. It can be said that thefundamental difference between the two lies in thespatial dimension. The height has been adjusted to makethe picture feel more real and let the viewer fall into it.The design differences between 2D and 3D animationscan be analyzed from the concept, production process, and characteristics. Animation design must alwayscapture the audience’s attention, embody theauthenticity of the animation while not forgetting tocreate classic characters, and give people spiritualinspiration. Whether it is 2D or 3D design, it has itsown characteristics. This article will substitute thecorresponding animation case. The explanation andcomparison of the differences between the two arehelpful for innovative thinking in animation design.2. COMPARISON OF DESIGN CONCEPTSBETWEEN 2D ANIMATION AND 3DANIMATIONEarly by hand, 2D animation a frame and a frameconnection into the animation scene, the background ofthe animation is a relatively static state. However, thecorresponding image objects, the character is to moveslowly, with the aid of the transparency film for drawingthis vector, by superposition technique to renderpictures, the animation information is complete, butrelatively lack realistic. At present, 3d images can besimulated with the help of computer form, whichimproves the authenticity. However, the images canonly tilt towards the 3d state but cannot truly comparewith 3d.Although the three-dimensional (3D) animation isvery three-dimensional, no matter what angle of thepicture or the geometric distance away from the screen,it should not affect people's sensory experience toomuch. At the same time, three-dimensional animation(3D) is still inseparable from the original graphic design. No matter how gorgeous 3D animation lighting is, thegraphic art design is inseparable. This research whichcan take the domestic successful 3D animation "Nezha",for example. Its animation design is inseparable fromgraphic design and flat character design. Meanwhile, there is a transition from the plane (2D) to 3D inanimation modelling instead of directly forming a 3Dscene. For example, "Snow" could not be more familiar. The details of each character make people feel lifelike, more vivid than its character standing in front of theaudience; it is not difficult to find under carefulobservation. However, the mirror lens is still 2D design,Copyright 2021 The Authors. Published by Atlantis Press SARL.This is an open access article distributed under the CC BY-NC 4.0 license 6

Advances in Social Science, Education and Humanities Research, volume 594and it can admit that the 3D than 2D is moresophisticated but said 3D would completely replace thetwo-dimensional animation mode until it disappears. That is an unprofessional assessment[1].3. COMPARISON OF 2D ANIMATION AND3D ANIMATION COMPOSITION3.1 Characteristics of 2D animationcompositionThe whole film of two-dimensional(2D) animationworks is usually composed of ten more scenes. Thesebeautiful background pictures of natural scenery, household arrangement or hazy dream are all drawn bythe staff according to the script requirements and thedirector’s intension. Different types of film scenes aredrawn with different degrees of delicacy. Acclaimedaudiences have always loved two-dimensional (2D)animated films supervised by Miyazaki Hayao for theirmeticulous backgrounds and soft and bright colors. Those original scenes are mostly taken from real naturalscenery photos or directors' imaginations in Japan andeven across the country. Artistic modification andcreation on this basis always give people a feeling ofhand-painted dreamy background.Because 2D animation scenes are statictwo-dimensional (2D) planes, in animated movies, producers usually draw separate distance layers: first, the sky in the distance, the white clouds in the skyabove, and the second are thick. Thick green trees canimitate the wind when they shake. In the vicinity ofgrass, fields, and rocks, sometimes the scenery willprecede the character, while the other character is onlyin the background. In this way, the film scenesgenerated by the layer-by-layer celluloid occupies mostof the development of two-dimensional (2D) animation.Until 1964, the United States Bell Laboratory inventedthe new technology of computer film production, thusproviding favorable conditions for computer animation. In modern society, various kinds of software can help2D animation creation very well. The emergence ofnetwork animation - Flash, animation creation closer tothe life of ordinary people. Throughout the developmentof two-dimensional animation painting techniques, multiple layers superimposed to produce betterbackground motion have never been abandoned.3.2 Characteristics of 3D animationcompositionThere are apparent differences between scene designof 3D animation and scene design of 2D animation.Computer 3D animation has a unique advantage inrepresenting the physical space of a scene. 3Danimation is versatile and easy to use. Because thescene is constructed by precise three-dimensional(3D)design, without artificial feeling to build the scene, itcan simulate and reproduce the realistic style of theprimary world[2].The image clarity and sense of space of theforeground and background of 3D animation, whetherdesigned with natural objects or 3D virtual technology,is always similar to the real world. Because the scenedesign fully complies with the scientific perspectiverules, whether it is placed in a physical object toperform Shooting or 3D modelling, there will be nodistance error due to the increase in the number offrames taken.4. COMPARISON OF ACTION DESIGNBETWEEN 2D ANIMATION AND 3DANIMATIONThe character's action design is also a prominentaspect of comparing 2D animation and 3D animation. The action design in the animation is much exaggeratedand distorted than the shooting in real life. Hyperbole isa commonly used artistic treatment method in animation, which is almost everywhere. The so-called hyperbolerefers to the partial or all forms of the characters’exaggerated to achieve strong artistic effects under thepremise of preserving the characteristics of animationmodelling. Transformation is an artistic techniquecommonly used in cartoon modelling and characterperformance [3]. The so-called deformation inanimation modelling refers to the deformation of thebody structure of the animated character to make itmore vivid and exciting and more in line with the plotrequirements.4.1 Action design in 2D nsional(2D), animation can often use moreexaggeration than three-dimensional(3D) animation. The exaggeration of character modelling intwo-dimensional(2D) animation has evolved fromimitating real characters and animals for a long time. This way gradually developed into a cartoon style offreehand brushwork painting. Those characters with afew strokes of outline and critical parts, full of fun, highly personalized leap on the screen, walking, running, complete "concise" various movements. 2Dcharacter animation actions can change exaggeratedforms, stretch, and curl arbitrarily, often because of thegraphic nature. People dare not imagine it as reality;this kind of unintentionally fussy exaggeration isunrealistic, even for the frontal portrayal of characters. There can be exaggerated and bloated figures andinconvenient steps.Two-dimensional (2D) animated characters pursue337

Advances in Social Science, Education and Humanities Research, volume 594perfection while striving to consider the details of theform. After all, every picture needs to be meticulous, especially the character's clothing and accessories. Therefore, after the character moves, it is necessary todig deeper into the movement relationship of theaccessories' position, angle, and shape. This caused aconsiderable workload. The contradiction betweendisproportionate efforts and gains has become why fewpeople are willing to bear such a strenuous work style. However, great works are produced when a great dealof attention is devoted to the pursuit of fine detailswhile the character image is maintained with greatprecision. Japanese animation, represented by MiyazakiHayao, has always been admired by a broad audiencefor its realistic style and fine detail. The reporter againlaughed that Miyazaki Hayao "soul-blowing" this lensusing computer technology in the interview. MiyazakiHayao says he is a hitchhiker, and as long as he canfinish painting, he makes up his mind to do it well, evenif it takes a little money. It can involve computertechnology, unless hand-drawn cannot be very good tocomplete the lens, such as water ripples and othershapes. Nevertheless, it must be specially set up by thecomputer personnel's computer imaging department totake over the completion of drawings after the work wasfinally sent to accept processing. In addition, in thepre-production, the working group issued a "no 3D"statement. Strongly advocated that the Ghibli studiohand-drawn members should not use computer paintingbecause this will make people's hand-drawn technologydecline. The painting effect is not good to discountsignificantly.4.2 Action design in 3D animationIn 3D animation, the first impression often remindsthe audience of recalling and comparing similar thingsin daily life due to the three-dimensional form. Is theugly fish in Finding Nemo the same as the primarything? Are the size and shape up to standard? Are thecolors so exaggerated that the animators doubt theirsimulation skills and lose patience? In addition, themovement of the flying animals, the formation of theirwings in the sky; The contours of running beasts, stronglimbs, and the flying sand and stones lifted whencatching prey will not stand out in the picture becauseof being out of reality. Suppose the character image inthe 3D animation is exaggerated and distorted, compared with the physical object. In that case, we feellike a lack of knowledge of the student's work, or apurely alternative artist engaged in his creativeperformance.Today's 3D animation software is compelling. Aslong as people can think of it, it can almost be achieved. With the rapid development of 3D technology, fortoday's filmmakers, using their imaginations to tellstories, two-dimensional (2D) animation can givepeople the feeling that it is often exciting and eccentric.Furthermore, 3D animation from itself is the natural sional(3D)animationisverytime-consuming. The creator should experience digitalproduction and have one of the high-speed computers asa hardware device. All of these conditions make theproduction technique is quite expensive, so only in thecase of very necessary to consider [4].5. A COMPARISON BETWEENCREATORS OF TWO-DIMENSIONALANIMATION AND THREE-DIMENSIONALANIMATION5.1 Comparison of costs and benefitsDue to the constraints of cost, personal creationtends to be two-dimensional animation short films.Although there are three-dimensional animation shortfilms, few are high-quality; As an innovativetechnology experiment on a certain level, 3D animationneeds a large amount of capital cost as support.High-quality 3D animation works still need a certainamount of time. In contract, full-length 3D animationmust be completed by the concerted efforts of hundredsof employees of animation production companies withconsiderable strength for several years.Animation takes a lot of workforce and materialresources, so both the producer and the original authorare conscientious before making it. Most Japanese TVcartoons are made first and then based on the sales ofcomics to decide whether to make animation. Forexample, the famous TV cartoon "Doraemon" is basedon Miyazaki Hayao’s comic book. After its release andbest-selling for several years, it changed and met withthe audience in animation, which has more marketpotential and continued to sell well. Whether comicbooks or cartoons, animation images are mages are easy to remember, with the emergence ofthree-dimensional derivatives, audiences are closer tothe animation images in their minds. The position oftwo-dimensional images in their minds is furtherconsolidated. Thus, three-dimensional(3D) is moreaffinity, rather than flat in the image of the paper.Animated images do not look like live shows. Afterreading the script, add the actor's feeling to the senseprovided by the script, and the actor will make a secondcreation to enhance the performance value and storyexpression. The animated characters are, at best, theanimation that the director himself and other follow-upstaff use to play with imagination. There is no spark oftemporary surprise or inspiration, and when there is aspark, it must be something that everyone feels worthdoing. Although the producer only needs to redraw the338

Advances in Social Science, Education and Humanities Research, volume 594scene, it takes a long time to turn inspiration into apractical product. Because of the complexity of thisinternal process, the number of people, the need forcommunication and cooperation. Unlike popularcommercial animation, computer-generated animation, ink animation, shadow animation and other artisticanimation, although good-looking, but to reproduce onthe big screen, there is still a way to go. For example, ink animation is an art animation, cannot form apipeline operation, production costs are high. Becauseof the complexity of the artistic animation productionprocess, these animations are mainly manifested invisual effects, conveying the joy of metaphor. The storyis often straightforward. Making an animated movierequires much money, but none of it is a remarkablestory, and the rewards are small. Even in Europe, 2Danimation is only played in salons and mainly in shortpieces. Japanese two-dimensional(2D) animations, suchas Castle in the Sky and Spirited Away by MiyazakiHayao, appear on the screen. However, they are storyanimations with thought-provoking plots and delicatepsychological descriptions. In the United States, animation films mainly based on 3D animation haverich actions and character expressions, which are muchbetter than two-dimensional animation in terms of thebalance between production cost and income and theperformance before the screen.5.2 Comparison of the size of the creator teamThere are two mainstream creative teams in theanimation market, and one is a large animationproduction factory, the other is more independentanimation people or small teams.5.2.1Animation factoryMany people know Toy Story, Finding Nemo. Thesebig names are all associated with one name: PixarAnimation Studios. In May 1991, Pixar took a historicstep in establishing a partnership with entertainmentgiant Disney. In 1995, the world's first fully 3Danimated film, "Toy Story", was released in the UnitedStates. Toy Story mobilized more than 100 million U.S.dollars and took four years to complete. Pixar'scomputer skills were fully demonstrated in Toy Story.Since then, Pixar has used computer technology to letthe animation studio cooperate with Disney to make 3Danimation into a cash cow for animated films. These 3Danimations were born with high costs and productionhats, and there are many expectations every time theyare released.Fox's Blue-Sky Studios is also one of the topanimation studios in the industry, creating Ice Age withadvanced proprietary CGI software, widely regarded asthe most professional ray tracking software. SquareEnix's Final Fantasy is a stunning re-creation of analmost life-like skin and hair system that cannot bebought without a big budget[6].It can be seen that it is difficult to develop greatworks of film and television animation without strongeconomic strength, which determines that largeanimation companies create most 3d animation.Individuals and small groups can only feel helpless.5.2.2Independent animatorWith the widespread use of computer animationtechnology, personal workstations in the hardware levelof the continuous improvement, now independently tocomplete a small animation cost is no longer a dream.Small studios and independent artists are increasinglyjoining the ranks of independent animation producers. The most significant characteristic of independentanimation producers is that they make full use ofpaperless technology to produce animation and pursueoriginality. Due to the limited human and materialresources, the low cost of TV broadcasting and the highcost of the early promotion and publicity of cinemaanimation, they all make animation at a small cost. However, this kind of creative mode, which has beenrelatively mature overseas, is still in its infancy in Chinaand develops slowly. Many producers are not rewardedfor the hard work they put into their work. In addition, itis difficult for independent creators to develop withoutsufficient level to establish themselves in the animationindustry due to the uneven state of technology andrelatively low operating costs. Although there are manydifficulties and resistance above, the independentproduction of animation has been a trend. At present, many excellent small studios and animation artists haveemerged in China[8]. China's animation market andanimation demand have great potential, and China'sindependent animation artists will have more room fordevelopment. Although there are not yet manyindependent animation artists, shortly, this group willinject more emerging forces and grow stronger.6. CONCLUSION2D animation and 3D animation are two differentand controversial animation forms. 2D animation can besaid to be the most intuitive form of animation. Thetwo-dimensional animated characters displayed on theplane are not only easy to attract children's attention butalso can cultivate children's interest in drawing from anearly age. 3D animation relies on technological progressand is a product of high-tech productivity. Every time anew 3D animation work is created, it representshumankind's most advanced level of computeranimation technology. However, when technology isabove art itself, those high-tech animation works thatonly pay attention to its application cannot ignore theideological and story level of animation works339

Advances in Social Science, Education and Humanities Research, volume 594themselves. After all, the animation is a form of filmand television; the story and ideology are the first. Inaddition, we can continue to talk about the rapidchanges brought by science and technology. Supposethe creators can carry out a careful screening of scriptsand make films carefully. In that case, bothtwo-dimensional animation and three-dimensionalanimation can achieve good ratings and box officeresults.AUTHORS’ CONTRIBUTIONSThe author conducted the literature reviews andwrote this article. 4.1 Action design in 2D animation Because of its plane characteristics, two-dimensional(2D), animation can often use more exaggeration than three-dimensional(3D) animation. The exaggeration of character modelling in two-dimensional(2D) animation has evolved from imitating real characters and animals for a long time.
