Local Support Demonstrated for FRHS Chant Yearbook Through out the school year, students in School Publications class reach out to local business in the pursuit of ad space purchases in the Yearbook. Below is a list of the businesses who bought space this year. The School Publications class and student body are very grateful for the business support. Without these sales, the high school could not have the top of the line books that are produced and created by the School Publications class. Viva el Español Sharing Our American Way of Life The Spanish Club celebrated Cinco de Mayo on Friday, May 7th. The afternoon was divided into five sections where the grade levels participated in five different activities. In the first station, they made their own toilet paper towel roll figurines with Frida Kahlo. They then learned the basic steps of salsa dancing and practiced with the other members of their group. During the third station, they divided into teams to play soccer. The students enjoyed food from a taco truck hosted by Mariachis in Coldwater at the fourth section. After the four sections, all grades met back up in the gym for Spanish Trivia. The questions ranged from Spanish speaking countries to Spanish music to translations. After a heated competition, the seniors won and enjoyed the reward of ice cream sandwiches. Thank you to the Club officers, Kendra Metzger, Alyssa Heinrichs, Megan Diller, and Ellie Will for all their hard work in organizing this event. Marie Nachtsheim is the foreign exchange student at the high school this year. She is from Frankfurt, Germany and came to stay with Mrs. Lindsey Reinhard, her husband and three boys for the second half of the school year. While reflecting on her time spent with Marie, Mrs. Reinhard stated, “Our family has been so blessed to welcome Marie into our home and our lives over the last 6 months. We have enjoyed watching her build new friendships and engage in many of the extra-curricular activities that FRLS has to offer. We are even more aware now of how fortunate we are to have a close knit community, and to have the opportunities like prom, athletics, and interscholastic clubs and activities. Upcoming Dates June 3rd: Grade Cards ready for pickup August 17th: Schedules ready for pickup August 23rd: Open Building August 24th: First Day of School You, my friend, are dressed like an idiom! I sincerely hope you didn’t read that incorrectly, as it was a common thing heard in the middle school one day this month! Students in Mrs. Huelsman’s class dressed like common idioms as a fun way to learn about the topic. Just one of many enjoyable activities the students have participated in to finish up the school year! Other interesting and enjoyable activities occuring in the middle school to finish up the year were. The annual Health Fair made a return to students in grades 4-8 with over 15 volunteers from various local businesses coming in to share interesting and important information with the students. Topics included Peer Pressure, Electrical Safety, a Heart Exhibit, Stress Management, Alcohol Awareness, and many more. Thank you to the men and women who volunteered their time, and to Mrs. Gerlach for organizing the health fair! Students who earned incentive for the second semester (all A’s and B’s on their 3rd Nine Weeks Report Card, All A’s and B’s on their 4th Nine Weeks Interim Report, met all Reading Counts requirements, and received no disciplinary action) celebrated their successes one afternoon with a day at the park. Interactive inflatables, Kona Ice, and beautiful weather highlighted the fun day. The students attending earned the right to this incentive activity because of their hard work and good ethics. Great job to each of them! The annual 5k also made its return this year with all students in grades 5-8 participating in the race. This is a huge undertaking as well, with a lot of school members and people in the community coming together to organize the race. Thank you to everyone who helped! Finally, the middle school students met with their “Tribes” one last time to compete in the final day of school field day activities. This gave the students one last chance to work together with their tribemates, enjoy the final day of school, and say their goodbyes for the school year. It was the perfect way to finish up the school year! With all of that, we can officially say ‘WE MADE IT’. An entire year of in-person learning, with great successes by all of our students and staff. Now it’s time to enjoy the summer! Ryan Steinbrunner Middle School Principal (6-8) (419) 375-2815 ext. 301 steinbrunnerr@fortrecoveryschools.org

Upcoming Dates May 27: Last Day of School July 1-11: Summer Shut Down July 12-16: Laffalot Camp Like many of you, I am writing this and asking myself, “Where did this year go?” As other years, this year passed by quickly. However, this was a year that we faced many unknowns and occasionally were not sure what the upcoming days and weeks would bring. I cannot say thank you enough or find the ways to show my gratitude towards the staff, students, parents, and community for the ongoing support and patience! The staff at Fort Recovery Elementary School has responded to the year with understanding, flexibility, dedication, and hard work. We all look forward to the break and the upcoming year as we continue to work towards ‘normal’. We are excited to return to a school routine that we do not have to face the unknowns. So to everyone, THANK YOU for being so invested in our children’s education! August 2-5 & 9-12: As the school year winds down, and we start to prepare and plan for the Summer School upcoming school year, please be sure to follow along on social media and/ August 23: Open Building August 24: First Day of School or email (email addresses will be pulled from Final Forms). In June, we will ask parents to log into your Final Forms account to update and verify your child(ren)’s information for the 2021-2022 school year. Bussing and transportation will again be on Final Forms so it is important that you have this finished as soon as possible to ensure that your child is assigned a bus/bus stop. Similar to previous summers, the Fort Recovery Library will host their Summer Reading Program, FRES teachers will send home reading & math incentives, Summer Bridge books were available, and Summer School will be held in August. It is important that the students continue to practice their academic skills over the summer months. Just as important, be sure that children get outside to play, get fresh air, and PLAY! Playing with others, holding conversations, following directions and game rules, and learning to get along are just as important. Again, thank you for all you do to make Fort Recovery Elementary a great place for our children and community! We are truly blessed to have supportive parents, caring community members, and respectful students. Without your support, time, and energy so many events would not be possible. Wishing you an enjoyable and healthy Summer! Kelli Thobe Elementary Principal (PK-5) (419) 375-2768 ext. 201 thobeke@fortrecoveryschools.org

Sorority Anniversary ABC- Academic Booster Club- Can We Stay Active? Wow, this year, our schools and staff have done almost the impossible by being on site the entire year. We, the Academic Boosters applaud everyone and all their efforts. You are a treasure trove to our families. The Academic Booster Club has strived to continue all the projects that we support from welcoming packets, treats to honor roll students, a graduation scholarship, flash drives, recognizing outstanding scholars, snacks for Scholastic Bowl, academic letters, breakfast bags for testing days, and Middle School Quiz Bowl supplies. A couple of projects were unable to happen due to the pandemic restrictions like the Pork Chop Dinner, and the academic recognition of students at athletic events. As a group, we have come to a decision to ask for new leadership, we have written reports of all our past efforts and projects. These files will be in the possession of Mr. Tony Stahl, our HS principal. This organization has been SO WORTHWHILE, but needs some younger leaders and “FRESH INPUT”. None of us want to see this group end. Please consider stepping forward for this Booster Club. I think the present leadership feels like we will always be associated and work for the Academic Booster Club, provide a smooth transition, but need “new people and fresh ideas”. CONSIDER THIS and as always we thank all of our past supporters who contributed through their memberships. Please contact Mr. Tony Stahl if interested in helping in any way with this endeavor.
