Broadcom acquired CA Technologies in November 2018, coming close on the back of CA’s acquisition of Automic in 2017. Automic Automation remains the strategic WLA product for Broadcom. While all CA and Automic products continue to be supported, Automic Automation v12.3 is the only Broadcom WLA product reviewed in this report. Automic Automation provides automation for complex workloads across platforms, ERP systems, and business apps from mainframe to microservices and serverless in both cloud and on-premises. Automic Automation provides selfservice automation with service catalog integrations (e.g., ServiceNow) and automation-as-code facilities for automation and orchestration. The product also simplifies automation for big data and offers self-services for data scientists to scale with strong governance on data flows. The Automation team has remained focused in the wake of several acquisitions. They have modernized the UI of several existing CA products and integrated them successfully into the Automic platform to leverage broader IT systems integrations and enable use of other automation modules, including continuous delivery and AIOps.

VENDOR PROFILE: BROADCOM CA Technologies was founded in 1976 and has a long history in Workload Automation, primarily through acquisition. Its latest acquisition was Automic, with prior acquisitions including AutoSys Workload Automation, ESP dSeries Workload Automation for distributed platforms, CA Workload Automation CA 7 Edition, and CA Workload Automation ESP Edition for mainframe environments. CA Workload Automation iDash provides predictive analytics, forecasting, and reporting. Following the acquisition of Automic, CA established an Automation line of business. Going forward, the choice of workload automation technology will be determined on a client-by-client basis—with Automic Automation as the automation product for new customers. The other WLA products will continue to be developed in line with customer-committed roadmaps. ARCHITECTURE CA Technologies’ integrated automation platform spans physical, virtual, and cloud computing in supporting end-to-end business and IT workflows that cross applications. By managing and abstracting the complex interdependencies that increasingly exist in modern data centers, Automic Automation consolidates and simplifies IT administration. Automic Automation automates IT processes that traditionally require multiple areas or disciplines of automation. This functionality reduces integration and interface costs by avoiding the usual issues that occur when multiple tools must be used to automate one process. 3 EMA RADAR FOR WORKLOAD AUTOMATION (WLA): Q4 2019 2019 Enterprise Management Associates, Inc. www.enterprisemanagement.com Automic Automation

VENDOR PROFILE: BROADCOM Automic Automation’s active-active architecture is highly scalable, and ensures high availability across high volumes of endpoints. The centralized automation engine can be distributed in active-active mode across any number of CPUs and physical servers. Third-party tools are not required. With deep multitenant capability, Automic Automation can handle multiple end customers, regardless of whether they are internal (multiple departments or business units) or external users. All scheduling data, including a full audit trail, is stored in the backend Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or DB2 database. Updates can be accomplished with zero downtime, allowing for continuous operations without the need for a maintenance window. Integrated file transfer ensures point-to-point, timely, accurate, and secure information transfer. There is no need for additional third-party-managed FTP products. Multi-Cloud Automation Separate automations can be connected across clouds, with no negative impact on security. Massively Scalable The software can scale up to 100M jobs per instance and 100k agents. Software clustering promises dependability for users, without requiring particular, fault-tolerant hardware. KEY FEATURES SUMMARY Governance and Compliance Users are given comprehensive auditing and control of any automated processing and user activities, which keep processes in compliance with company policies. Zero Downtime Upgrades With zero downtime upgrades, users will not need a maintenance window. There will not be any downtime when businesses install new versions or patches. 4 Automation as Code Developers are able to directly code automation artifacts without difficulty, and DevOps teams can easily promote those artifacts throughout the testing process. Mainframe to Microservices Support is offered for mainframe, distributed cloud, and virtual environments, which are combined with a variety of certifications for business applications. Infrastructure Management DevOps teams are able to create, deploy, and run applications simply, with instant provisioning and deprovisioning as part of the continuous delivery workflows, infrastructure as code, or preapproved self-help runbooks. Integrations Marketplace The marketplace offers templates and add-ons to expand automation capabilities, letting users solve more business challenges. Lifecycle Management Automation policies across development, test, and production environments and teams are easily promoted.
