TWO COMMON PROBLEMS FOR PROFESSIONAL THERAPISTS Most therapists have one of two problems: (1) not enough clients, or (2) too many clients. The therapists who have too many clients are forced to work longer hours and more days than they really want to, or to use a waiting list, or to refer new people to other therapists. A good problem to have, as problems go. And it is always instructive for the therapists with not enough clients to learn what their colleagues are doing that is so successful in manifesting an abundance of clients. TIPS FOR THE THERAPIST SEEKING TO GAIN MORE CLIENTS WITH HYPNOTHERAPY Tip 1 Tip 2 Retain the clients that come to you as a long term investment. It’s not that you want to keep them in treatment longer than is helpful to them, of course. But we’ve all experienced a client who makes an appointment and at the end of a really good session says, “Wow, that makes me feel a lot better. I’ll call you if I ever feel like coming in again.” Such an individual may be a little short sighted, and probably could benefit from more sessions. Perhaps she feels embarrassed about what she revealed, and wants to avoid facing you again. Perhaps she has low self-esteem, and doesn’t value herself enough to feel deserving of spending the money on her own healing. Perhaps she has prosperity anxiety, and is afraid to invest the money in this way. Whatever the reason, in most cases they are actually presenting issues for therapeutic intervention – and the ethical therapist will bring that to the client’s attention with an invitation to continue in therapy long enough to adequately address them. Attract new referrals from your existing clientele – they are much more likely to talk with their friends and family about their therapy, and to encourage them to follow suit, when they are experiencing dramatic results. Your client may not tell his friend, “Yah, I talked about how unhappy I am in my marriage again. My therapist gave me some ideas that he thinks would help.” But he may very well tell a friend, “Wow, you wouldn’t believe what came up for me this week. I had totally forgotten about the time in second grade that I had such a crush on Becky that I was showing off and fell down the stairs at school. I felt so foolish, and all the kids in the hallway were laughing at me. I think it’s taken ever since then for me to feel confident in approaching women.” Every hypnotherapy session is an adventure, and they always end on a positive note. 13 WAYS HYPNOTHERAPY CERTIFICATION CAN START AND INCREASE YOUR PRACTICE Attract new referrals from other professionals in your community. You will soon have the reputation as the “wonder worker”. You will work with a wide variety of presenting issues, more than most psychotherapists. And some of the areas you are prepared to work with have few other therapists capable of offering services. For example, utilizing hypnotherapy you will be able to work with referrals from physicians on psychosomatic disorders, autoimmune deficiency, TMJ, pain relief, smoking cessation, or weight loss. You will also receive referrals from other therapists for consultation with their clients who are at an impasse, who cannot seem to access their emotions, or who are unable to remember crucial events from their childhood. Tip 3 THE MOST COMMON CONDITIONS TREATED WITH HYPNOTHERAPY TODAY A NOTE TO THERAPISTS WITH TOO MANY CLIENTS And now a word to the therapists who have too many clients: you have another alternative solution to those mentioned above (work longer hours, use a waiting list, or refer to other therapists). And that is to work smarter, not harder; in other words, work with groups. If you are properly training and certified in hypnotherapy, you are fully capable of offering classes to the general public on topics that they will find fascinating, for example: The Power of Suggestion in Effective Parenting Strengthen Your Immune System How Your Childhood Experiences Influence Your Decisions Today Training and certification in hypnotherapy provides you with a powerful modality to work effectively with groups, either in groups organized around a focused outcome, such as smoking cessation or weight loss, or in group therapy. Expand your therapeutic skills in hypnotherapy with clients in one-onone sessions to working with groups doing the same caliber of depth psychotherapy. The Wellness Institute 1.800.326.4418 2

13 WAYS HYPNOTHERAPY TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION CAN BENEFIT OR START YOUR PRACTICE And now for the meat of this discussion. For current and aspiring therapists that are interested in the healing art of hypnotherapy, we would like to provide a list of 13 ways that gaining a certification in hypnotherapy can benefit, improve, or even help you start your therapy practice. 1 More efficient healing for your clients – hypnotherapy accelerates the healing because you are working directly with the subconscious mind where all the memories and beliefs are stored, and with the body where all the anxiety, inhibition, and shame are stored. 2 More referrals from existing clients: they can’t wait to talk to their friends and family about the fantastic experiences they have in therapy sessions with you – every time! Your clients will become the best promotion for your practice. 3 More referrals from other professionals to you because you are now a specialist. You will be prepared to work with a wide spectrum of presenting issues, including some of the “difficult cases” other therapists feel stymied by. You will now have inroads to working with the medical community, offering services they deem valuable to their patients. 4 You will become a recognized expert on hypnosis and hypnotherapy in your community, and expand from one-on-one session therapy to groups, classes, and media interviews. People will attend classes you offer on weight release, smoking cessation, strengthening relationships, effective parenting, and whatever you can imagine. 5 Continue your own personal growth toward improved confidence, clarity of purpose, and readiness to fulfill your true potential. 13 WAYS HYPNOTHERAPY CERTIFICATION CAN START AND INCREASE YOUR PRACTICE 6 Expand your business with new opportunities for collaboration with an existing welcoming network of like-minded professionals in your community. 7 Use all your previous training together with new techniques – this training takes elements of Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Behavior Modification, NLP, humanistic psychology, developmental psychology and ego state therapy and puts it all together in a seamless structured process. 8 Expand what you offer therapeutically to dream work, past life regression, death and dying services. 9 Learn how to release projections and work productively with clients’ transference and your own countertransference. 10 Become skilled at helping your clients release repressed or blocked emotions. When you are working directly with the subconscious, your client has ready access to feelings that are inhibited by the conscious mind. 11 Incorporate the body more in your psychotherapy: clients in hypnotherapy are generally more willing to enter into cathartic release of anger, anxiety, fear, guilt and sadness. You can provide treatment for pain, disease symptoms, psychosomatic conditions, strengthening the immune system. 12 Expand your therapy into the realms of energy healing, prenatal and birth issues, and soul retrieval. 13 Develop expertise in working with client dissociation, from everyday distractibility through attachment disorders to Dissociative Identity Disorder. OUR RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ASPIRING HYPONOTHERAPISTS One of the most important things to know in approaching training and certification in hypnotherapy is this: as a licensed professional, you can easily learn the mechanics of inducing and managing a trance in an afternoon. You don’t need days of training in hypnosis. You do need extensive training in how to do therapy with your hypnotized client. Training courses that offer hundreds of hours of instruction are structured for the needs of non-licensed individuals. Be sure that the specific course of training you select is approved by your professional Association and is accepted by your State Licensing Board. The SixDay Hypnotherapy Certification Training Program offered by the Wellness Institute prioritizes your training and practice time on therapy because you are already a well-trained professional. You are prepared to focus your attention on learning a valuable new modality of treatment, and that is what this course offers. Another important aspect of the training course you select should be the inclusion of a personal experience of being a client in a hypnotherapy session. That experience is invaluable in learning what to do, and what not to do, when you facilitate this form of therapy with a client. If your training course of instruction does not include that personal experience, your training is incomplete. Through observing actual hypnotherapy sessions and hands-on practice as a hypnotherapist with a client, you will be prepared to return to your office and begin doing sessions immediately after the Six-Day Certification Training. You will feel more and more confident in your new skills as you perform the twenty practice sessions required for certification. And there is supervision available to guide you in refining your newly acquired skills – either individual or in a group setting. Group supervision can be instrumental in developing your connection with a supportive network of professionals in your community. Advanced training and certification is available, of course, and is recommended for those who wish to become truly accomplished in the field of hypnotherapy. The Wellness Institute 1.800.326.4418 5
