The course is tailored to assist new members to the plumbing design community the basics of plumbing design. Terminologies, trade tendencies, history of the profession, basic calculations, and several other critical areas of design will be covered. The class will consist of a total of 14 hours of training and each attendee will receive a Course Handbook and a certificate for 1.4 CEU’s. We will begin at 8:00AM, breakfast & lunch will be provided. (Arrive 15 minutes early for breakfast) Dinner will be hosted by Emerson Swan Thursday evening at Buffalo RiverWorks, 359 Ganson St, Buffalo, NY 14203 COST 400.00 for ASPE Members 600.00 for Non-ASPE Members A special rate of 260 plus a 190 membership fee is being offered for anyone who would like to take the course and join our local ASPE BUFFALO/NIAGARA Chapter. In addition, there will be a special 100 rate plus 30 membership for Students (enrolled in 12 credit hours of coursework). This will include the class and membership into the ASPE organization. INSTRUCTOR Michael Danielson, CPD of Reed, Wells, Benson & Co will be your instructor. Michael has been the Education Chairman for the DFW ASPE Chapter since 2006. Michael brings with him a wealth of experience in designing plumbing systems in healthcare, municipal, multifamily, and institutional designs. of Reed, Wells, Benson & Co will be your instructor. Michael has been with RWB for 20 years and is the Department Head for Plumbing and Fire Protection. He has been the Education Chairman for the DFW ASPE Chapter since 2006. Michael earn his Bachelors of Science in Marine Engineering Systems from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in 1995. He brings with him a wealth of experience in designing plumbing systems in healthcare, municipal, multifamily, and institutional designs. American Society of Plumbing Engineers BUFFALO / NIAGARA CHAPTER Basic Plumbing Design When you tell someone that you are a Plumbing Designer/Engineer, are they surprised and give you a strange look? They don’t see your tool belt or “plumber’s crack”. Today we are provided with an amazing opportunity to protect the health and welfare of the public through properly designing the plumbing systems being installed in our homes, schools, business and health-care facilities. Of all the trades, Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing, plumbing design is the only trade that is essential for life, providing clean drinking water and removal of waste water from our buildings. During this beginners class we will start the design process by reviewing and designing storm drainage systems, natural gas systems, domestic cold and hot water systems & sanitary sewer systems Along with reviewing how to properly coordinate these utilities with the Architects and Structural Engineers. COURSES: Storm Sizing, Routing & Coordination – 2 Hours This program will review the basics of storm drain pipe sizing, routing and coordination. Learning Objective: 1. Properly size storm and overflow drain piping 2. Properly select equipment needed within the storm drainage system. 3. Correctly coordinate pipe routing with building and structure within the building 4. Understand correct pipe material to be used based upon application and ground movement Domestic Cold Water Sizing – 2 Hours Domestic Hot Water Sizing – 1 Hour Domestic Heating Water Equipment Sizing and Selection – 2 Hour The programs will review the basics of domestic water pipe sizing, routing and coordination. Learning Objective: 1. Properly size domestic cold and hot water piping 2. Properly select and size the domestic heating water equipment to fit specific projects. 3. Correctly coordinate space allocations within the building 4. Understand how to correctly size domestic hot water return systems Sanitary Sewer Sizing, Routing & Coordination – 2.5 Hours This program will provide the basic plumbing design of sanitary sewer systems. The program will review the basics of sanitary sewer pipe sizing, routing and coordination. Learning Objective: 1. Properly size sanitary sewer piping 2. Properly size sanitary vent piping 3. Properly select equipment needed within the sanitary sewer system 4. Correctly coordinate pipe routing with building and structure within the building 5. Understand correct pipe material to be used based upon application and ground movement Natural Gas Sizing, Routing & Coordination – 1.5 Hours This program will review the basics of natural gas pipe sizing, routing and coordination. Learning Objective: 1. Properly size natural gas piping 2. Properly select equipment needed within the natural gas system 3. Correctly coordinate pipe routing with site utilities, building and structure within the building Plumbing System Coordination – 3 Hours The program will review the basics understanding of coordination between trades and dealing with structural conflicts within the building. Learning Objective: 1. Review and discuss the continual coordination that must occur throughout design and construction 2. How do deal with structural conflicts and correctly understanding limitations within the plumbing design 3. Correctly coordinate pipe routing with building and structure within the building
