Clinical Judgment Definition The observed outcome of critical thinking and decisionmaking. It is an iterative process that uses nursing knowledge to observe and assess presenting situations, identify a prioritized client concern, and generate the best possible evidence-based solutions in order to deliver safe client care.

Clinical Judgment and Nursing Scope of Practice Nursing is a dynamic, continually evolving discipline that employs critical thinking to integrate increasingly complex knowledge, skills, technologies, and client care activities into evidence-based nursing practice. Further, newly licensed nurses are making increasingly complex decisions in the delivery of client care within the established scope of practice. This heightened level of decision-making calls for nurses to engage in effective clinical judgment to support client safety.
