To: Prospective Mascot Candidates and Parents From: Tina Clifton, Varsity Cheer Coach Rebekah Cranford, Junior Varsity Cheer Coach Alexa Naehritz, Freshmen Cheer Coach Phyllis Scott, BHS Assistant Principal Subject: Mascot Tryouts Thank you for showing an interest in trying out for mascot. You should read this packet and become familiar with the eligibility requirements and/or responsibilities of a mascot in the Birdville Independent School District. This packet contains the BISD Constitution for Cheerleaders & Mascots, the BHS Cheerleading Guidelines, Merit/Demerit Information, and Grading Procedures specific to BHS Cheerleaders and Mascots. You and a parent need to carefully review the information in the packet. If you meet all requirements, then you should decide if you want to try out. If you do, complete the enclosed tryout application, and return it to Coach Cranford’s room (C400) by Tuesday, March 3, no later than 2:00 p.m. Note that a doctor’s release (or a current physical on file with BHS trainers) is also required for tryouts. Cheerleading is a very strenuous activity, and candidates should be in the best of health. Being a mascot is both time consuming and expensive. (1) You must be willing to devote your time and effort throughout the summer, fall, and spring. It is also difficult for a mascot to work more than a few hours per week. Additionally, mascots do not always have the same breaks as other students because of commitments, games and practices that occur during those times. (2) Mascots and their parents must pay for uniforms, equipment, and summer camp. They also have to pay a 250.00 uniform cleaning and restoration fee. This greatly increases the longevity of the mascot costume. Birdville mascots receive many valuable and rewarding experiences that are remembered long after graduation from high school. Participating in cheerleading at Birdville instills a sense of pride and accomplishment, and allows you to be a part of the group that has a history and reputation as one of the finest groups in the area. Becoming a mascot should be your sincere desire and not something to be taken lightly. You and your parents need to seriously consider these responsibilities before the commitment to try out is made. If you have any questions, please contact us at tina.clifton@birdvilleschools.net or rebekah.cranford@birdvilleschools.net Good luck BHS Cheerleading Coaches and Dr. Scott

TEACHER EVALUATION FORMS This year teacher evaluations will factor into your Academic/Discipline score. This score is worth 30% of your overall tryout score. On the next page you will find the new Mascot Teacher Evaluation form. You will need 1 form for each of your teachers. So, if you have 7 classes, you will need to print 7 copies of this form. If you are not enrolled in 7 classes (you have an off period or a travel period), then you will not need 7 forms. You will turn in ALL of your blank teacher evaluation forms to Coach Cranford with your completed packet. You will NOT give any forms to your teachers. Your forms will then be distributed to your teachers. The teachers will receive all their recommendation forms at one time, which will help expedite the process and cut down on lost and late recommendation forms. All of your teacher evaluation forms will be averaged to form one (1) Teacher Evaluation Score. The Teacher Evaluation Form is on the next page. You will need to print enough copies of the Teacher Evaluation page to give one to each of your teachers. DO NOT GIVE THESE FORMS TO YOUR TEACHERS!!!! Turn them in with your packet! (one form for each teacher.)
