2020 Annual Drinking Water Quality ReportFor Destin Water Users, Inc.This report is available on our website to all our customers and in the Destin Water UsersAdministrative Office located at 218 Main St., Destin, FL.We are pleased to present to you this year's Annual Water Quality Report. The waterquality report is an annual publication that is required by the U.S. EnvironmentalProtection Agency. This report is designed to inform you about the quality of the waterand services we deliver to you every day. Our constant goal is to provide you with asafe and dependable supply of drinking water. We want you to understand the effortswe make to continually improve the water treatment process and protect our waterresources. We are committed to ensuring the quality of your water. Our water sourcesare ground water from our 6 coastal wells and water purchased from South WaltonUtility Company, Inc. (SWUCI). The wells draw from the Floridan Aquifer. Because of theexcellent quality of our water source, the only treatments required at Destin WaterUsers and South Walton Utility Company are chlorine and/or sodiumhypochlorite for disinfection purposes.Destin Water Users (DWU) routinely monitors for contaminants in your drinking wateraccording to Federal and State laws, rules, and regulations. Except where indicatedotherwise, this report is based on the results of our monitoring for the period ofJanuary 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020. Data obtained before January 1, 2020, andpresented in this report, are from the most recent testing done in accordance with thelaws, rules, and regulations.The sources of drinking water (both tap water and bottled water) include rivers, lakes,streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels over the surface of theland or through the ground, it dissolves naturally occurring minerals and, in somecases, radioactive material, and can pick up substances resulting from the presence ofanimals or from human activity.

Contaminants that may be present in source water include:(A) Microbial contaminants, such as viruses and bacteria, which may come fromsewage treatment plants, septic systems, agricultural livestock operations, andwildlife.(B) Inorganic contaminants, such as salts and metals, which can be naturallyoccurring or result from urban storm water runoff, industrial or domesticwastewater discharges, oil and gas production, mining, or farming.(C) Pesticides and herbicides, which may come from a variety of sources such asagriculture, urban storm water runoff, and residential uses.(D) Organic chemical contaminants, including synthetic and volatile organicchemicals, which are by-products of industrial processes and petroleumproduction, and can also come from gas stations, urban storm water runoff, andseptic systems.(E) Radioactive contaminants, which can be naturally occurring or be the result of oiland gas production and mining activities.To ensure that tap water is safe to drink, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)prescribes regulations, which limit the number of certain contaminants in waterprovided by public water systems. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA)regulations establish limits for contaminants in bottled water, which must provide thesame protection for public health.Drinking water, including bottled water, may reasonably be expected to contain atleast small amounts of some contaminants. The presence of contaminants does notnecessarily indicate that the water poses a health risk. More information aboutcontaminants and potential health effects can be obtained by calling the EPA SafeDrinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791.

In the tables on the pages to follow, you may find unfamiliar terms and abbreviations.To help you better understand these terms, we have provided the following definitionsin alphabetical order: Action Level (AL): The concentration of a contaminant which, if exceeded,triggers treatment or other requirements that a water system must follow.Maximum Contaminant Level or MCL: The highest level of a contaminant that isallowed in drinking water. MCLs are set as close to the MCLGs as feasible using thebest available treatment technology.Maximum Contaminant Level Goal or MCLG: The level of a contaminant indrinking water below which there is no known or expected risk to health. MCLGsallow for a margin of safety.Maximum residual disinfectant level or MRDL: The highest level of adisinfectant allowed in drinking water. There is convincing evidence that additionof a disinfectant is necessary for control of microbial contaminants.Maximum residual disinfectant level goal or MRDLG: The level of a drinkingwater disinfectant below which there is no known or expected risk to health.MRDLGs do not reflect the benefits of the use of disinfectants to control microbialcontaminants.“ND”: Means not detected and indicates that the substance was not found bylaboratory analysis.Parts per billion (ppb) or Micrograms per liter (µg/l): One part by weight ofanalyte to 1 billion parts by weight of the water sample.Parts per million (ppm) or Milligrams per liter (mg/l): One part by weight ofanalyte to 1 million parts by weight of the water sample.Picocurie per liter (pCi/L): Measure of the radioactivity in water.Visual Example:

Lead in drinking water is primarily from materialsand components associated with service lines and home plumbing. DWU is responsiblefor providing high quality drinking water, but cannot control the variety of materialsused in plumbing components.When your water has been sitting for several hours, you can minimizethe potential for lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking. If you areconcerned about lead in your water, you may wish to have your watertested. Information on lead in drinking water, testing methods, andsteps you can take to minimize exposure is available from the SafeDrinking Water Hotline or at http://www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.

As you can see by the tables listed in this report, our system had no violations. Weare proud that your drinking water meets or exceeds all Federal and Staterequirements.In 2020, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection performed a SourceWater Assessment on our system and the system from whom we purchase water.The assessment was conducted to provide information about any potential sourcesof contamination in the vicinity of our wells. There are twenty-two potential sourcesof contamination identified for Destin Water User’s system with a lowsusceptibility level. There are twelve potential sources of contamination for SouthWalton Utility Company with low to moderate susceptibility levels. The assessmentresults are available on the FDEP Source Water Assessment and Protection Program(SWAPP) website at https://fldep.dep.state.fl.us/swapp/.Some people may be more vulnerable to contaminants in drinking water thanthe general population. Immuno-compromised persons such as persons withcancer undergoing chemotherapy, persons who have undergone organtransplants, people with HIV/AIDS or other immune system disorders, someelderly, and infants can be particularly at risk from infections. These peopleshould seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers.EPA/Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines on appropriate means tolessen the risk of infection by Cryptosporidium and other microbiologicalcontaminants are available from the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800426-4791.

In our continuing efforts to maintain a safe and dependable water supply, it may benecessary to make improvements to our water system. The costs of these improvementsmay be reflected in the rate structure. Rate adjustments may be necessary to addressthese improvements. Displace water in toilet tank – a weighted bottle in the tanksaves gallons per day. Water lawns during the early morning hours whentemperatures and wind speed are the lowest. This reducesloss from evaporation. Mulch to retain moisture in the soil. Mulching also helps tocontrol weeds that compete with plants for water.
