Guide to Practice Activities & Released TestletsScienceINTRODUCTIONThe Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM ) Alternate Assessment System provides educators andstudents with the opportunity to prepare for assessments by using practice activities andreleased testlets. Practice activities are designed to familiarize users with the way testlets look in the Kite system. One activity is for educators and the other is for students. Released testlets are similar to the real DLM testlets in content and format. A releasedtestlet is a publicly available, sample DLM assessment. Released testlets can be used bystudents and teachers as examples or opportunities for practice. Released testlets aredeveloped using the same standards and methods used to develop testlets that are used inDLM operational assessments. New released testlets are added periodically.Access practice activities and released testlets through Kite Student Portal in the practicesection. Use login information provided in this manual to complete both types of activities asmany times as desired.HINT: Some released testlets are available as PDFs on the DLM website at thefollowing s/releasedtestlets. StudentPortal does not need to be installed on a computer to view these items.Users who have questions or problems accessing the practice activities and released testletsshould contact their assessment coordinator or technology personnel.DEMO STUDENT ACCOUNTS FOR PRACTICE ACTIVITIES AND RELEASEDTESTLETSPractice activities and released testlets are only available through demo student accounts. Thedemo student accounts listed below are enrolled in all available practice activities and releasedtestlets. The practice activities and released testlets have certain Personal Needs and Preferences(PNP) Profile settings turned on depending on the account, as indicated in the table below.DLM Guide to Practice Activities and Released Testlets 2018-2019 Science Revised 08/01/2018 Page 1 of 5

To try a different demo student’scredentials, log out and log back in with the different username and password.RELEASED TESTLETSA released testlet is a publicly available, sample DLM assessment. Released testlets can be usedby students and teachers as examples or opportunities for practice. Released testlets aredeveloped using the same standards and methods used to develop testlets that are used in DLMoperational assessments. New released testlets are added periodically.Remember that testlets contain items that align to nodes at the designated linkage level. Thelinkage levels in science are:1 Initial (I)Precursor (P)Target (T)In Student Portal, released testlets are labeled by their subject, Essential Element, and linkagelevel. For ELA and mathematics demo testlet information, see the Guide to Practice Activities &Released Testlets on the Educator Resource Page on the DLM webpage.1DLM Guide to Practice Activities and Released Testlets 2018-2019 Science Revised 08/01/2018 Page 4 of 5

Teacher-administered testlets are used when the content is difficult to assess on thecomputer, or the student has presymbolic communication and cannot interact directly with thecomputer. In this type of testlet, the teacher reads the instructions aloud on the testlet screensand follows them. The teacher enters the student’s responses to activities or exchanges thatoccur outside the system.Testlets administered by teachers are typically at the Initial linkage level.STUDENT PRACTICE ACTIVITYThe student practice activity is a tutorial about testlets that are computer-delivered directly tothe student. Computer-delivered testlets are used when the content can be assessed directly bycomputer, and the student can interact with the system directly to select their own response, using accessibility supports and devices as needed.Students may navigate using a mouse, Tab and Enter on a keyboard, or switches. If the studentcan engage with the content but cannot advance the screens or input responses independently, the teacher may navigate the screens and record the student’s responses on their behalf. Moreinformation about allowable practices is provided in the TEST ADMINISTRATION MANUAL.The student practice activity for science uses only multiple-choice items.DLM Guide to Practice Activities and Released Testlets 2018-2019 Science Revised 08/01/2018 Page 5 of 5

accomplish an Amazon S3 load to Amazon Redshift. In particular, if the data you wish to load to Amazon Redshift is in the form of a SAS data set, you can use the following steps to execute the Amazon S3 load: 1. Export a data set to the DLM format. 2. Upload the DLM file to Amazon S3 by calling the AWS command line interface (CLI) through the .

The SBSS-prepared A02 and A0B MILS transactions carry the expanded length descriptive data, which could contain various types of information for part-numbered requisitions in rp 67-80, and requires mapping to the DLMS transaction. This information is common to the YRZ exception data used by DLA, and so can be mapped to the generic note field as specified above. b. DLMS Field Length .
