I. EligibilityNursing involves the provision of direct care for individuals and is characterized by theapplication of verified knowledge in the skillful performance of nursing functions. Anyone whomakes application to the college as a degree-seeking student may apply to the Seattle CentralCollege Associate Degree Nursing Program. Admission to the program is open to all qualifiedstudents regardless of economic or social status and without discrimination on the basis of race,color, sex, marital status, beliefs, age, national origin or disability.All applicants for the nursing program should possess:1. Sufficient visual acuity, i.e. to accurately prepare and administer medication and toparticipate in the observation necessary for client assessment and nursing care;2. Sufficient auditory perception to receive verbal communication from patients and membersof the health care team as well as to assess the health needs of people through the use ofmonitoring devices such as cardiac monitors, stethoscopes, IV infusion pumps, dopplers, firealarms, etc.;3. Sufficient gross and fine motor coordination to respond promptly and to implement the skills,including the manipulation of equipment, required in meeting health needs;4. Sufficient communication skills (speech, reading and writing) to interact with individuals andto communicate their needs promptly and effectively as may be necessary in the individual’sinterest;5. Sufficient intellectual and emotional functions to plan and implement care for individuals;6. The ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and;7. The ability to be on feet for 8-12 hour clinical.II. CommitmentThe Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program is a vigorous and intense program of study.Success in the program requires major commitment to make studying a priority. Study outside ofclass is a requirement as well as practice time for nursing skills. Working more than 20 hours perweek is discouraged due to the time requirements in the program. Students need to have goodtime management skills as well as assistance with childcare and finances.III. Campus LocationsSeattle Central College offers nursing classes at the three campuses of the Seattle CollegesDistrict: Seattle Central, North Seattle, and South Seattle. Students will have the opportunity todesignate a preference of campus when applying to the program. The program admissionrequirements and the selection process are the same for all campuses.

An Overall Adjusted Individual Total Score of 75% or higher must beachieved.Attendance to a nursing information session prior to applying is highly recommended. Youmay attend a session at any Seattle Colleges campus: Seattle Central: formation North Seattle: https://northseattle.edu/programs/nursing/calendar South Seattle: ing/rn/Have your transcripts evaluated prior to applying if you have taken classes outside of SeattleCentral College. This processtakes 6-8 weeks to complete. A minimum grade of 2.5 is required for all prerequisite and corequisite courses.3. All prerequisite and corequisite courses may be repeated twice within 5 years prior to theapplication period.4. Transcript Evaluations must be done for all coursework taken outside of Seattle CentralCollege. This must still be completed for courses taken at North and South SeattleCollege campuses.5. Application and Selection CriteriaStudents are accepted by a lottery of applicants who have completed all program admissionrequirements by the application submission deadline. Applications are accepted twice every yearin April for entrance into the fall cohort and in September for entrance into the winter cohort.Application dates will be posted on the Seattle Central College nursing website.VI. Admission ProcedureOnly students with completed online applications will be considered for admission to the SeattleCentral College (SCC) Nursing Program. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that allrequirements are met and all required documents are uploaded in the nursing application foradmission.VII. Post-Admittance Requirements Prior to First NURS CourseAfter acceptance for admission and before beginning NURS courses, students will receivedetailed instructions for meeting the following mandatory requirements: Provide documentation of the following immunization/titer requirements:o Two-Step TB skin test OR TB IGRA (Quantiferon or TSpot) OR Negative ChestX-rayo Three Hepatitis B vaccinations AND a positive/immune titero Two MMR vaccinations OR positive/immune titers for each disease

o Two Varicella vaccinations OR a positive/immune titero Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis (Tdap) vaccinationProvide proof an American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS CPR cardProvide proof of current personal health insuranceComplete a national and state background checkComplete required education modules provided by the SCC Nursing DepartmentVIII. Re-Application PolicyIf an applicant is not accepted into the program and wishes to reapply during a differentadmission cycle, the applicant should attend a nursing information session and resubmit anursing application by the desired admission cycle deadline to be considered. All programrequirements must be satisfied prior to submission of the nursing application.IX. Program Criminal Background CheckThe nursing program at Seattle Central College requires students to submit a Criminal HistoryDisclosure form in their application, and then to obtain criminal background checks after beingaccepted into the program and then annually. The purpose of the background check is to ensure asafe clinical environment for both students and the public and to meet the contractualrequirements of area healthcare facilities. Clinical facilities may request additional backgroundchecks.Seattle Central College has established a background check procedure, which will be provided tostudents upon acceptance into the nursing program. Students who fail to submit a CriminalHistory Disclosure form and to initiate a background check upon acceptance and annually cannotcomplete or continue enrollment in the nursing program.
