Mitchell moved toHarlesden in 1957 where hedecided to settle as he likedBrent and found the people“social” which reminded him ofJamaica. His family, includinghis daughter Liz Mitchell, whowould go on to become anacclaimed reggae singer andmember of Boney M, thencame over to join him. He stilllives in Harlesden and wasawarded an MBE forCommunity Work and Servicein 2014.1

We are in the process of creating a KS2 prehistory workshop about Brent, availablefrom January 2019.Our interactive, hands-on history workshops all have strong links to the Brentarea. You can come to Brent Museum at The Library at Willesden Green or wecan come to your school. Our workshops give pupils the opportunity to explorethese topics: Romans, Anglo-Saxons, Ancient Egypt, Local Area studiestailored to the area around your school, WW1, WW2, Somali community inBrent, Victorians, Homes and Toys. All workshops are hands-on and use ageappropriate resources. We use artefacts, maps, images, replica artefacts and costumes to helpchildren engage with the topics. Our workshops support history, geography and literacy studies.There is a charge for workshops. We have a range of worksheets to support your pupils in thegalleries; classes can bring their own lunches to eat in the Education Room. New archives workshops! Secondary School Archives workshopsStudents learn about the function of an archive and typical dailyactivities from a member of archives staff. They then learn howto handle and explore Brent Archives materials such asnewspapers, photos, maps and street directories to explore thetopic of their workshop. Workshop topics include WW2 inWembley and Suffragists in Willesden. Search Room space islimited to 15 students, classes normally divide into two and halfthe class visits the Museum whilst the other half has their 30mins workshop and then they swap over.
