In particular, JFE Steelhas carried out testing and research on high tensile strength steelplates with excellent weldability, and began sales of JFE-HITEN490and JFE-HITEN540 with extremely high weldability in 1952. Since thattime, JFE Steel has produced a series of high tensile strength steels upto JFE-HITEN980, realizing progressively higher strength. Theseproducts are used in a wide range of applications, including storagetanks, spherical gas holders, bridges, penstocks, railway rolling stock, ships, building construction, construction machinery, steel towers, equipment for civil construction, low-temperature vessels, and miningand agricultural machinery, among others, where they aredemonstrating their true value. Most notably, JFE Steel developed the relaxed preheating-type steelsof the “U1/U2” series, “EX” and “LE”, which provides outstanding lowtemperature toughness for use in construction machinery. JFE Steelhas also developed SM570 class products which display high strengthin the as-rolled condition together with high weldability. These productshave acquired an excellent reputation in many engineering fields. In addition to general atmospheric corrosion resistant steel plates, JFE Steelhas developed the 1.5Ni-Mo Type 1 for standard type and 2.5Ni Type 2 for highsalinity-environment type as Ni type high atmospheric corrosion resistantsteels that can be used in seaside and coastal regions and regions whereantifreezing agents are used, where the atmospheric corrosion resistant steelsprovided in JIS standards cannot be used without painting due to high airbornesalinity. These JFE Steel products make it possible to respond to a wide rangeof salt concentrations. In addition, by composite addition of trace amounts ofcorrosion resistance elements which are effective against salinity, JFE Steelcommercialized the LALACTM Series, which realizes salinity resistance on thesame level as the standard type Ni type high atmospheric corrosion resistantsteel without heavy addition of Ni. As a result, these products are making animportant contribution to reducing Life Cycle Cost (LCC).To prevent initial outflow rust and maintain an attractive appearance, JFE Steelrecommends use of rust stabilizing agents, the rust aging type “CUPTENCOATTMM” and “CUPTENCOATTM AQUA” and the rust accelerating type “e-RUSTM.”These steel plates for low temperature service are applied to structuressuch as low temperature vessels and oil drilling rigs for arctic areas. Inparticular, various standards and steel grades are used in lowtemperature vessels, corresponding to the low temperature conditionsof each liquefied gas.The WES standard “Evaluation of criterion of rolled steels for lowtemperature application” was enacted by the Japan Welding EngineeringSociety as a standard for steel plates for low temperature service, andthe concepts of that standard have also been incorporated in JapaneseIndustrial Standards (JIS). Steel plates for low temperature service havealso been standardized in ASTM, ASME, BS, DIN, etc., and in shipclassification societies of various countries, beginning with ClassNK.JFE Steel supplies steel plates conforming to the above standards, andhas also developed other original steel plates and obtained qualificationfor those products from the related organizations.Liquefied gas 50 F 75 F 150 F 320 F12Ammonia 33.4 CPropane 45 CPropylene 47.7 CHydrogen 59.5 CsulfideCO2 gasAcetyleneEthaneEthylene 78.5 C 84 C 88.3 C 104 CMethaneOxygenArgonFluorine 163 C 183 C 186 C 187 CApplicable Steel GradesJFE-HITEN-LSLA235SLA325JFE-LT1.5Ni-TM 46 CSL2NSL3N 60 C 101 CSL9N 196 C

BrandFeatureOutline of ProductsAbrasionResistant -C550JFE-EH-C600JFE-EH-SPHigh hardnessHB340-600Abrasion resistance is required in many components of constructionequipment, industrial machinery, transportation equipment and miningmachinery. Conventionally, special steel plates, high carbon steel platesor high tensile strength steel plates had been used in these parts. However, JFE Steel developed Japan’s first steel plate exclusively forabrasion resistance, and produces and sells this abrasion-resistant steelplate under the trade-name “JFE-EH (EVERHARDTM).” In “JFE-EH,” therequired hardness is realized by adjusting the contents of carbon andother special elements and applying a special heat treatment. “JFE-EH”is available in both the Standard Type and Alloy Type. Recently, JFESteel developed “SP,” which has abrasion resistance of 500 grade orhigher, and “LE” with excellent low temperature toughness. Both productshave been highly evaluated by users. These products can make animportant contribution to extending life, reducing weight and shorteningrepair time in all types of construction and industrial machinery.TMCP TypeHigh StrengthSteel Plates forBuilding LHigh reference strengthand Low yield ratio inthickness 40.1-100 mm ofHBLTM325, 355 and19-100 mm of HBLTM385, 440and 12-40 mm of HBLTM630-LIn these steels, high reference strength is guaranteed (certified by Japan’sMinister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism) even for thethicknesses 40-100 mm.
