2. What you also needMediaWidely available 2.5” SSDs are the basic storage media for Atomos 4KMonitor Recorders. We work closely with leading drive manufacturers toqualify as many options as possible. SSDs are required for 4K recordingand for more demanding production environments that may not be suitedto spinning hard disks.Solid State Drives (SSDs) are recommended for all recording up to4kUHDp30 and specific drives with sustained high performance writespeeds for 4kDCIp60.Spinning Disk Drives (HDD) are not recommended.HDDs are not suitable for 4K recording or for use in environments orsituations where the units are subjected to vibration and movements. Here are some things that you should bear in mind when usingspinning disks: Even though spinning drives can withstand substantial shocks whenthey are not in use, they are more vulnerable when running. HarshWe have worked closely with Angelbird and Sony to develop new mediadesigned specifically for the Atomos Ninja V that is 100% compatiblewith Shogun 7. The new AtomX SSDmini is smaller than a standard SSD,but utilises the same SATA connection as normal HDD/SSD media and iscompatible with all Atomos recorders and docking stations.AtomX SSDmini fits directly into the Shogun 7 disk slot without the need fora Master Caddy II, and can be further enhanced by the addition of AtomXSSDmini handle to make connecting and removing the SSD effortless.treatment that may not actually damage the drive may interruptrecordings at a much lower level of severity. We recommend that youexperiment with your drives by testing them in the conditions that younormally work in. Do not bang or jolt the Shogun 7 while recording. Do not use spinning drives (HDD) when recording 4K video You will find noticeable differences in the abilities of different drivesto withstand shock and to continue recording during vibration andmovement.Which drives should you use? There are so many drives available, and newer models appear all thetime. To avoid potential data loss and/or write/read errors, Atomos onlyrecommends the use of approved SSD media only.We are not able to test all drives but here are some guidelines.Atomos Shogun 7 – User Manual Edition 1: November 20194
