MasterSeal SL 2Multi-component self-leveling polyurethane sealantDESCRIPTIONAPPLICATIONSMasterSeal SL 2 is a multi-component, self-leveling,elastomeric polyurethane sealant that is mixed andpoured in place. MasterSeal SL 2Multi-component self-leveling polyurethane sealantHOW TO APPLY:JOINT PREPARATION1.2.3.4.PRIMING1.The product may be used in sealant joints designedin accordance with SWR Institute's Sealants - TheProfessional's Guide. In optimal conditions, the depth of the sealantshould be ½ the width of the joint. The sealant jointdepth (measured at the center) should always fallbetween the maximum depth of 12mm and theminimum depth of 6mm. Refer to Table 1.In deep joints, the sealant depth must be controlledby closed cell backer rod or soft backer rod. Wherethe joint depth does not permit the use of backerrod, a bond breaker (polyethylene strip) must beused to prevent three-point bonding. To maintain the recommended sealant depth, installbacker rod by compressing and rolling it into thejoint channel without stretching it lengthwise.Closed cell backer rod should be about 3mm largerin diameter than the width of the joint to allow forcompression. Soft backer rod should beapproximately 25% larger in diameter than the jointwidth. The sealant does not adhere to it, and noseparate bond breaker is required. Do not prime orpuncture the backer rod.2.3.4.MIXING1.2.3.SURFACE PREPARATIONIt is essential that joints be clean and dry. Joint surfacesmust be structurally sound, fully cured, and free of allloose aggregate, paint, oil, grease, asphalt, wax, masticcompounds, waterproofing compounds, form-releasematerials, curing compounds or any other contaminants.4.NEW CONCRETERemove all loose material from joints by wire brushing.Sandblast surfaces in contact with form-release agents.Fresh concrete must be fully cured. Laitance must beremoved by abrading.5.OLD CONCRETEFor previously sealed joints, remove all old material bymechanical means. If joint surfaces have absorbed oils, remove sufficient concrete to ensure a clean surface.MasterSeal SL 2Joint surfaces must be primed with MasterSeal P101 before sealing. If the surfaces are other thanmasonry or concrete, test first to determineadhesion. Technical assistance is available fromMaster Builders Solutions.Apply primer in a thin, uniform film. Avoid build-upof film.Allow approximately 15–30 minutes drying timebefore applying sealant. (Primer should be tackfree.) Sealant must be applied same day as primer. To minimize contamination of adjacent surfaces, apply masking tape and remove before sealant hasbegun to thicken and set.3/5MasterSeal SL 2 is a multi-component system witha configuration of Part A, Part B and sometimes acolor pack.Transfer entire contents of Part B to Part Acontainer using a spatula or margin trowel.Part B must be mixed thoroughly with Part A.Before adding pigment, scrape sides of container toensure complete mixing of Parts A and B. With aslow-speed drill and a sealant mixing paddle, mix4–6 minutes. Keep the paddle blade below thesurface of the sealant to avoid whipping air into thesealant.Transfer the entire contents of one MasterSeal 900pigment can into the mixed Part A and B. Use aspatula or knife to remove all the pigment from thecontainer. Continue mixing with a slow-speed drilland slotted paddle until color is uniform. During theprocess, scrape the sides and bottom of the mixingcontainer several times to obtain a complete mix.The pot life of mixed MasterSeal SL2 is influencedby temperature. See Table 2 for specific data.MasterSeal 905 accelerator may be added toadjust the initial cure rate.

MasterSeal SL 2Multi-component self-leveling polyurethane sealantAPPLICATIONFOR BEST PERFORMANCE1.-2.3.4.5.All caulking and sealing should be performed whentemperatures are above 40 F (4 C); any moisture orfrost on surfaces will adversely affect adhesion.Fill joints from the bottom; avoid bridging of thejoint, which may form air voids. For large joints, the self-leveling grade may bepoured directly from the can.For smaller joints and for all slope-gradeapplications, fill the joint by flowing the sealant froma bulk-loading gun.Light tooling of the slope-grade sealant isrecommended to smooth out ripples. On slopedsurfaces, tool from the lowest point to the highest.Do not use soap or solvent.----CURINGCure time will vary with humidity and temperature. Initialcure is within 24 hours and complete cure takesapproximately 7 days.Allow 14 day cure at 23 C prior to water immersion.Cure rates are dependent on temperature and humidity.Protect joint from dirtand traffic until cured. See Table 2 for use ofMasterSeal 905 accelerator.-CLEAN UP---Immediately after use and before sealant has cured, clean equipment with MasterTop THN 2. Cured sealantmay be removed by cutting with a sharp-edged tool.Remove thin films by abrading.-STORAGEStore in unopened containers in cool, clean, dry area outof direct sunlight. Elevated temperatures will shortenshelf life.-VOC CONTENT-When mixed, product contains less than 64.4 g/L lesswater and exempt solvents.MasterSeal SL 24/5Do not allow MasterSeal SL 2 sealants to come intocontact with alcohol-based materials or solvents.Do not apply polyurethane sealants in the vicinity ofuncured silicone sealants or uncured MasterSeal NP150.When MasterSeal SL 2 is to be used in areassubject to continuous water immersion, cure for 14days at 70 F (23 C). Allow longer cure time at lowertemperatures. Always use MasterSeal P 173.Do not use in swimming pools, or other submergedconditions where the sealant will be exposed tostrong oxidizers. Avoid submerged conditions wherewater temperatures will exceed 120 F (58 C).For slopes up to 12% use MasterSeal SL 2 SlopeGrade. For slopes over 12% use MasterSeal NP 2sealant.Backer rods, joint fillers or bond breakers must betight to the sides of the joint to prevent loss of sealantthrough the bottom. For joints subject to puncture by high heels orumbrella points, a stiffer or higher density backupmaterial is required. Cork or rigid non-impregnatedcane-fiber joint fillers are suitable.Separate materials from the sealant by a nonadhering bond breaker (polyethylene tape).Do not use other caulks or sand as a bottom bed in ajoint.Do not install when rain is expected before thesealant reaches initial cure (about 12 hours).Units of MasterSeal SL 2 are premeasured; do notuse partial units.MasterSeal SL 2 may yellow in the presence ofunvented artificial heat; this is a surfacephenomenon that does not affect sealantperformance.Use only MasterSeal 900 color packs intended foruse with MasterSeal SL 2.Proper application is the responsibility of the user.Field visits by Master Builders Solutions personnelare for the purpose of making technicalrecommendations only and not for supervising or
