FAIR INFORMATIONIndia’s biggest exhibition for the Aluminium Die Casting Industry, ALUCAST 2014,concluded successfully at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre on the 6th ofDecember. More than 100 exhibitors presented their latest products and technologies.The event saw participation from countries including China, Japan, Germany,Switzerland, Taiwan, Italy and Spain. The Exhibition & Conference was organised by TheAluminium Casters’ Association of India and the Event was produced by NürnbergMesseIndia. CONFERENCELIGHT-WEIGHTING OF ALUMINIUM CASTINGSThe international Conference at ALUCAST Events is primarily a vehicle to bring to the notice andattention of the die casting community topics which could have a profound impact on the industry.Currently one of many major tasks on hand is reduction in the degradation of the earth’senvironment, especially due to burning of fossil fuels in automobiles with the attendant emission ofcarbon into the atmosphere. It has been well chronicled that a 10% reduction in the vehicle weightimproves fuel efficiency by 7% and proportionate reduction in carbon emission and increase inpayload capacity.Use of Aluminium, Magnesium, and composite materials for castings, joining high strength steel toaluminium, or further reduction in weight of parts already made from aluminium are some of theroutes by which vehicle weight can be reduced economically. The Theme of this year’s Conference“Light weighting of Aluminium Castings” was therefore appropriate and timely.Light-weighting of aluminium castings may involve changes in the manufacturing processes,machines, materials, methods and tighter control on several parameters. Papers presented during theConference dealt with each of the above aspects. The Conference was especially beneficial topersonnel engaged in vehicle design, part design, R & D, Materials procurement and purchase.The Technical Conference was a great success. Thirteen papers, covering a wide array of technical,management and product information were presented over the six sessions.
