As a result, ifa runner comes in for him when hegets on base, it is a substitution, andthat player is now the DH. If the DH isa Player/DH, he is batting as the DH. Asubstitution by an offensive playerwould eliminate the role of the DH.Points of EmphasisGAME-ENDING PROCEDURESA state association may adopt game-ending procedures that determine how games are ended,including suspended games. However, if a state does not adopt game-ending procedures, by mutualagreement of the opposing coaches and the umpire-in-chief, any remaining play may be shortened orthe game terminated. If a state association has adopted game-ending procedures, only those gameending procedures may be used, unless the opposing coaches wish to terminate the game (4-2-4).www.nfhs.orgInterrupted Contests Procedures. Thefollowing procedures shall be followed bythe umpires and teams in these situations:a) The umpires, both head coaches andboth scorekeepers shall gather togetherto document the point of interruption onthe lineup card and in the officialscorebook (including inning, score, outs,runners on base, defensive chargedconferences, etc.). The crew chief shallsign the lineup card and the officialscorebook to ensure that there are twocopies.b) The crew chief should then give thesigned lineup card to the home coach tobe kept with the official scorebook.c) The umpires shall send their gamereport to their local assigner. If adifferent umpire crew is assigned, thelocal assigner shall send the game reportdetails to the new crew as part ofaccepting the assignment.d) The lineup card shall be given to thenew or returning umpire crew during thepre-game when the game is to becontinued from the point of interruption.
