Ready-to-Use Ideas and Activities1 590 6 2.4 TS159 36658 986The only way that students will truly be able to manipulate numbers and have access tohigher-level math concepts is to learn the basic facts and understand fundamental concepts, such as counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The following activities can help reinforce basic skills. These activities include a multisensoryapproach to helping students understand the concepts being introduced. Separate the flash cards provided in the back of this book. Place the “equal”sign, “greater than” sign, and “lesser than” sign flash cards on a flat surface. Then, place two flash cards with equations on the flat surface. Have studentsuse the sign flash cards to show whether the two equations are equal, oneequation is greater than the other equation, or one equation is less than theother equation. Repeat with two different equation flash cards. 2 CD-104322 Carson-Dellosa

Ready-to-Use Ideas and Activities Use a pair of dice and anything that can act as a three-minute timer(a timer, a stopwatch, a watch with a second hand, etc.), or decide on acertain number of rounds of play. Have each student roll the dice andmultiply the numbers on the top faces. Each correct answer is worth onepoint. The student with the most correct answers after a specific periodof time or number of rounds wins. For example, a game may consist ofsix rounds. The student with the most points after six rounds wins.Alternately, the game can be played with division with remainders. As players memorize answers and gain confidence, add additional dice. When using more than two dice, have players state the problem aloudand answer as they go. For example, if the dice show 5, 2, 6, and 4, theplayer would say, “5 times 2 is 10, and 10 times 6 is 60, and 60 times 4is 240.” Create a bingo sheet with five rows and five columns of blank squares.Write FREE in the middle square. Give one copy to each student. Writethe flash card equations where they can be seen and have studentschoose 24 of the equations and write them in the empty spaces of theirbingo cards in any order. When students have finished writing on theircards, gather the flash cards into a deck. Call out the equations one at atime. Any student who has an equation that you call out should make anX through the equation on their card to cross it out. The student whocrosses out five equations in a row first (horizontally, vertically, ordiagonally) wins the game by calling out, “Bingo!” Then, have studentssolve the equations on their bingo cards. Play another version of this game by writing answers on the bingo sheetand calling out the equations. To extend the game, continue playinguntil a student crosses out all of the answers on her bingo sheet.CD-104322 Carson-Dellosa3

MATH 110 College Algebra MATH 100 prepares students for MATH 103, and MATH 103 prepares students for MATH 110. To fulfil undergraduate General Education Core requirements, students must successfully complete either MATH 103 or the higher level MATH 110. Some academic programs, such as the BS in Business Administration, require MATH 110.
