RACIAL DISCRIMINATION IN THE USAWe are in the Jim Crow era: Jim Crow is a law based on racial discriminationand segregation.Racial segregation in the US is the segregation of facilities, services, andopportunities such as housing, medical care, education, employment, andtransportation along racial lines. The expressionmost often refers to the legally or sociallyenforced separation of African Americans fromother races, but also applies to the generaldiscrimination against people of color bywhite communities.

The legitimacy of laws requiring segregation of blacks was debated by the U.S.Supreme Court in the 1896. The Supreme Court sustained the constitutionalityof a Louisiana statute that required railroad companies to provide "Separatebut equal" accommodations for white and black passengers and prohibitedwhites and blacks from using railroad cars that were not assigned to their race.

Examples of discrimination:-Anti-miscegenation laws (also known as miscegenation laws) prohibitedwhites and non-whites from marrying each other.White and black students were not allowed to go to the same school.Separated hospitals for black and white people.Black and white people had to live inseparated places.Black maid were not allowed to usethe same bathroom of the familyshe worked for.
