Only a trained servicetechnician with the properknowledge and tools should inspect, test, or replace the hybrid battery.See your dealer if the hybrid batteryneeds service. The 12-volt battery cables, in theengine compartment, are clearlylabeled. In emergency situations, first responders can cut thosecables to disable the high voltagehybrid battery system. This gauge indicates fuel efficiency. To obtain the best fuel efficiency, operate the vehicle so that theindicator is in the highefficiency band.See Fuel Economy Gauge onpage 5‑4.MetricAutomatic Engine Start/Stop FeatureStart the engine as you would anyother engine. See “Starting theEngine” in the owner manual formore information on starting. Thehybrid system provides very quietengine starting. Because the controllerapplies the hydraulic brakes throughits high pressure accumulator, youmay occasionally hear the motordriven pump when it recharges thesystem. This is normal. In the eventof a controller problem, the brakepedal may be harder to push andthe stopping distance may belonger.See Regenerative Braking onpage 9‑8.
