SECTION 1: Degree Programmes which DO NOT accept HN Qualifications as a basis of entryThe following degree programmes DO NOT admit students with HNC/HND qualifications: Dentistry (BDS)Medicine (MBChB)Vet Medicine (BVMS)Vet BiosciencesSECTION 2: Applicants to M.A. Arts and M.A. Social Sciences (Except Psychology)The following HNC/D qualifications are recognised for 1st year entry to Arts and Social Sciencesprogrammes:Administration and Information Technology,Advertising and Public Relations,Business,Communications with Media,Financial Services,International Trade and Business,Legal Services, Management,Marketing,Media Analysis and Production,Practical Journalism,Social Sciences.HNC/D in Performing Arts is not acceptedAn HNC pass with a grade ‘A’ Graded Unit will be granted access to 1st year.Applicants with an HNC pass with a grade ‘B’ Graded Unit will not be admitted, but will be made aconditional offer based on attaining an HND pass with a grade ‘B’ in each of their two graded units.Applicants who achieve an HNC pass with a ‘C’ in their Graded Unit will be rejected and will not bemade a conditional offer based upon an HND outcome.Please note: In addition to the above all applicants to Arts must have Higher Grade English at Grade B orabove. The Highers must be attained within 7 years of the date of entry to the University. In addition to the above all applicants to Social Sciences must have a Higher Grade Englishat Grade B or above. The Highers must be attained within 7 years of the date of entry to theUniversity. HNC/HND’s do not grant access to 2nd year of any Arts/Social Science programmes.

SECTION 4: Applicants Engineering Degree Programmes (B.Eng)An HNC pass with a grade ‘A’ Graded Unit will grant access to 1st year in most disciplines (seetables). The HNC must include Engineering Maths 2 or equivalent. In addition, HNC entrants to firstyear must also have Higher Maths at grade B, or the equivalent University of Glasgow Accessqualification.An HND pass with two graded units at ‘AA’ will grant access to 2nd year in most disciplines (seetables). The HND must include Engineering Maths 3 or equivalent. In addition, entrants to 2nd yearmust also have Advanced Higher Maths at grade B, or the equivalent University of GlasgowAccess qualification.HNC or HND qualifications do NOT gain access to all Engineering Degree Programmes. SECTION 5: Applicants to Accountancy (B.Acc)An HNC is not accepted for entry to this degree programme.Applicants with an HND pass in Accounting (no other HND’s are considered) who attain Grades AA orAAA in their Graded Units (depending on college course – some do two graded units, others do three)will be granted entry to 1st year.Please note: In addition to the above, applicants must have Higher Maths at grade B.SECTION 6: Applicants to Psychology (Arts, Science, Life Siences or Social Sciences)An HNC is not accepted for entry to a degree in Psychology, whether it is studied within the College ofArts (MA), College of Science and Engineering (BSc), College of MVLS (BSc in Life Sciences) orCollege of Social Sciences (MA Social Sciences).Applicants with an HND pass in the relevant subject areas listed under Arts, Social Sciences orScience (listed in sections 1 and 2 above) who attain Grades AA in their Graded Units will be grantedentry to 1st year.Please note: In addition to the above, applicants must have Higher Maths at grade B.SECTION 7: Applicants to LLB LawAn HNC is not accepted for entry to this degree programme.An HND in Legal Services with A passes in all assessments will grant access to year 1.Please note: In addition to the above, applicants must have Higher English at grade B. Allapplicants must also complete the Law National Admissions Test (LNAT).SECTION 8: Applicants to M.A. Health & Social Policy – DUMFRIES CAMPUSAn HNC in Social Studies or Social Care with an A in the Graded Unit will grant access to year 2.An HNC in Social Studies or Social Care with an B in the Graded Unit will grant access to year 1.In addition to the above academic requirements, success at interview and attendance at a shortsummer course is also required.An Associate Student Scheme is available to students from Scotland’s colleges considering thisdegree programme. Membership is free during your HNC year and helps college students to make asmooth transition to university-level study.SECTION 9: Applicants to Undergraduate Teaching Degree Programmes:M.Educ, MA (Religious & Philosophical Education) and B.TechEd (Technical Education)An HNC or HND in Childhood Studies (or a course where there is substantial Education component)is accepted for 1st year entry provided the applicant achieves a Grade A in the Graded Unit.Please note: In addition to the above applicants must have a Higher English at Grade B orabove AND a minimum of National 5 Mathematics at Grade B or above. Attainment of National5 Grade B does not guarantee progression of an application. Priority will be given toapplicants who have Higher Mathematics at Grade C or above. Applicants meeting theacademic entry requirements MAY be invited for interview.

SECTION 10: Applicants to Nursing (B.N. Degree)The following HNC/D qualifications are recognised for 1st year entry to Nursing:HNC/D in Biomedical SciencesAn HNC pass with a grade ‘A’ Graded Unit may be granted access to 1st year, subject to successfulinterview.Applicants with an HNC pass with a grade ‘B’ Graded Unit will not be admitted, but may be made aconditional offer based on attaining an HND pass with a grade ‘B’ in their graded units and subject tosuccessful interview.Applicants who achieve an HNC pass with a ‘C’ in their Graded Unit will be rejected and will not bemade a conditional offer based upon an HND outcome.Please note:In addition to the above all applicants to Nursing must: Have Higher Grade Chemistry at Grade B or above (The Highers must be attained within 7years of the date of entry to the University). Attend and pass the University of Glasgow Summer School. HNC/HNDs do not grant access to 2nd year of the Nursing degree programme. Applicants who meet the academic qualifications listed above may be required to attend aninterview.All HN applicants are required to attend and pass the University of Glasgow Summer School.This will be a condition of any offers made.
