What is Career Education? Career Education or CE programs are programs that are not onlyfocused on the educational goals of individuals, but on theworkforce needs of the community. DVC offers over 50 certificate and degree programs that preparestudents with the skills they need to be successful in a specificoccupation. Students will gain real work experience through these programs andwill be well-prepared for the workforce after completion. Many CE programs can be completed within 1-2 years and have highcompletion rates.

What is Work Experience? How do students earncollege credit for their job/internship? Work Experience is an individualizedwork-based learning course wherestudents earn college credit for on-thejob training and experience at their jobor paid/unpaid internship or volunteerposition.Work Hours Required to Earn WRKX Units 2 Units - 10 hr/week or 150 hr/semester 3 Units - 15 hr/week or 225 hr/semester 4 Units - 15 hr/week or 300 hr/semester CSU transferable units. What is High School Articulation? Articulation is an agreement between secondary and post-secondaryinstitutions allowing students to earn college credit while in highschool. College faculty and high school teachers review the college StudentLearning Outcomes, textbook/s and required course content forstudents to earn college credit by exam. A college readiness strategy for high school students

Benefits of Articulations Provides a means for students to begin a program of study in highschool which will continue at the college level Only appears on transcript if student receives an A or B on exam. Impressive on resume and college applications Free college credit Many courses transfer to CSU and UC Possession of college credits that never go away Employers offering benefits for college credit

Career Academies DVC Career Academies offer college credit plus an opportunity toexplore a variety of careers. (Some high schools will grant HS creditfor these courses.)– Students are immersed in a week (or more) of hands-on job-related experiences,projects, and field trips– Academies cost 1 per unit of college credit (1 week 1 unit)

Career Academies - Data Out of 285 participants in summer 2019, 32 students enrolled in additionalcourses that fall– Of those 32, 9 took more than 6 units Between summer 2015-2019, a total of 826 students have received collegecredit––––307 took other courses at DVC113 took more than 12 units78 were transferred prepared12 received a degree or certificate In summer 2020, we were only able to offer two academies – Animation andCyber– They were hosted virtually and had an approximate total of 100 students
